Spotify surpasses 250,000 U.S. subscribers

Spotify now has more than 250,000 subscribers in the United States, Reuters reported recently. The service also now has more than 2 million paid subscribers around the globe. The figures have not yet been confirmed by Spotify, but Reuters said CEO Daniel Ek disclosed the numbers in September. Spotify, which made its U.S. debut in July, offers users free ad-supported access to a library with millions of songs. It also offers a $4.99 monthly option with unlimited streaming and no ads, or a $9.99 subscription that supports offline mode, access from mobile devices, ad-free music playback and unlimited streaming. Its recent partnership with Facebook has been seen as a driving force for its success in the United States. The company also announced on Friday that its service is now available on Boxee.

Agreed. I use it as my main source of music. I have found every song/album that I’ve wanted to hear.

    Bring on blackberry support!

Spotify still has many gaps, lots of top artists that are not available.  Their demand that people sign on via Facebook is a huuuuge negative.  Facebook sucks.

So, you use Google+ where you have no friends too?

  • Anonymous

The radio function sucks, it plays the same songs over and over. Its not very good at discovering new music

Spotify rocks…the unending variety of music available is truly remarkable. For friends and acquaintances to show it off I simply ask them their favorite artist and have yet to not have it win.

Great to see this amazing service continues to excel.

Bring on Windows Phone 7 support.  Please!

It doesn’t seem like WP7 is that hard to develop for.

BBM Music will rip Spotify a new asshole.

The social aspect of it destroys this lousy service.

    • Elliott

You can disable the social aspect. BBM music will be a joke. RIM is dying a slow, embarassing death.

      • Guest

you misunderstood douchebag.  The social aspect of BBM music is what makes it amazing.  How can you knock an app you’ve never tried?

      • Guest

Do you realize that if even 1% of existing BB users subscribe for BBM Music that it will already have nearly tripled the amount of users that Spotify has?  RIM has a clear winner here.

The three of you should have a good time sharing music between your Blackberries.

  • bobsaget

why do these 2 balloon heads always have to be in the shot, and wtf kind of name is spotify?

  • Anonymous

250,000 still pretty big number. But I still don’t understand the name Spotify or the music service they have. I’ll wait till Google announce their music deal with record companies.

I would have easily thought that its partnership with facebook would have hurt its membership… (privacy concerns)
