The Roku LT supports 720p HD video, has built-in Wi-Fi, and provides access to 300 channels including Amazon Instant Video, Pandora, EPIX, Disney, Crackle, Hulu Plus and Netflix. ”Our goal is a Roku in every home,” Roku CEO Anthony Wood said. “The Roku LT opens up streaming to more people by lowering the cost of entry in these difficult economic times. With a $49 price and selection of more than 300 channels we expect the Roku LT will be everyone’s favorite Holiday device.” Additionally, Roku announced a new HBO GO partnership that provides on-demand access to 1,400 HBO movies and TV shows. Users must already subscribe to HBO through their cable provider in order to take advantage of this feature, however. The Roku LT will be available in early November from Roku’s website, Amazon and retail stores. Read on for the full press release.

At first this had me excited. Then I realized that HBO STILL doesn’t get it. Many, if not most people, buy Roku to DUMP their cable bill. HBO Go is meaningless as you have to have HBO WITH your existing cable bill. HBO would be wise to offer HBO Go exclusively as a paid option…guess their cable overlords aren’t having it. This is okay, I’m totally fine giving my money to Amazon VOD instead.

I like where this is going.  $50, you can’t beat that price!

Not worried about HBO.  I don’t need it, nor its access to unlimited Justin Beiber content which is useless to me.  Suck on that HBO!

I’m kind of confused as to the difference between the LT (short for “lite?”) and the base HD model. Any thoughts on that?

I have the original HD one.  Have to say, it’s a great device.  I have two of them.  The built in wi-fi is great.  Netflix never looked so good.  It’s the best Netflix player of all.  And Hulu even looks good.  I think the HBO thing would be significant if you wish to extend content to a location in your house that isn’t wired for TV.  Not groundbreaking, but not “ok”.  Roku has a great future I think.
