Hands on with the HTC Titan

mobile

We already ran a quick hands-on when HTC unveiled the Titan back in September, but now we’ve spent some time with a review unit and it’s time to revisit this beastly Windows Phone. If ever there was a handset that deserved its given name, it is this phone — the HTC Titan is nothing short of titanic. It’s large, it’s powerful and it’s about as solid as they come. The build materials include metal, hardened plastic that is anything but cheap-feeling, and of course a huge sheet of glass that covers the face of the phone. Windows Phone Mango is a smooth operator on first-generation Windows Phones, so you can imagine how quick it is with the Titan’s 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset running the show. The massive 4.7-inch display spreads the Titan’s 480 x 800-pixel resolution a bit wide, but the screen is nice and bright just like the HTC Arrive. Is this the Windows Phone we’ve been hoping for? You’ll have to wait for our full review to find out but in the meantime, be sure to check out our photo gallery below.

Hey, did you guys ever correct the Google & Samsung delayed Nexus Prime due to patent fight with Apple story yet?

I mean, if you report a rumor, it’s only fair to correct it once someone else does the job you should have done.

    Zach Epstein? crickets…

The problem is that no one cares.  Android, samsung, and nexus mean nothing to anyone with a life

Wp7 has got really low specs. Its a kind of Beta OS.

      • Anonymous

Yes because you’re the posterchild for somebody “with a life”

      • Jmaxku

Seems so. College education (accredited architectural design degree), hot girlfriend, house, job w/ salary and benefits, kick ass dog who would chomp your nuts off at the first hint of douchebagery. You Apple nuts crack me up. Everyday pleading that your product is superior. Market share doesn’t matter for reasons x,y & z. Cry yourself to sleep.

And that’s the reason you are replying?

And who confirmed it was false? No one I’ve seen.

      • Newsfan

check out 9to5google, they confirmed it was false and updated their story to reflect their new information.

      • Derbish

9to5google? Are you kidding me? Please say you’re kidding? Their “impeccable sources” are about as reliable as an Edsel.

News sites update stories like this when a company provides a statement or when their own sources provide info. Not when some hack blog run by teenagers posts some unsupported nonsense.

But BGR has the reputation of a teenage gossip girl O__o

      • Newsfan

It’s not like BGR reported the Nexus delay due to patents rumor based on a tweet from a kid who’s generally wrong about Android stuff or anything. Oh, wait, they did.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_47W6CR65QNWSRIPYCFU4C6VXE4 I

Everyone since the new announcement date was only pushed until the 18th….no way they settle a patent fight in a week.

Lions and Tigers and Bears, OH MY!!!  NICE

Let’s hope a version of this comes to Sprint or Verizon.

    • http://www.searingarrow.com AlienSix

Sprint should grab the Titan, they love big phones

      • Anonymous

Yes, but they better not buy too many…with under 2 million WP7 devices sold last quarter, it doesn’t appear as if the platform is going to make it. It’s a nice platform, but the few devs they had must be heading for the exits.

    • Anonymous

No, Sorry, this will be directly AT&T, officially!

    wp7 is better then crapdroid malware/trojan sh!t .

        I prefer bareback every time.

    • Newsfan

This is funny given your earlier post about posting the same thing on every BGR post. At least I’m trying to get them to correct a mistake they made, while you’re just a fanboi who’s a son of a bitch.

      • Tony

        ooooooor……..a bitch’s son.

  • Anonymous

Can’t wait to read what you guys think of this phone. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be my next phone, whenever AT&T drops it.

    • Tony

if AT&T drops it make sure to point out any scratches or damage before you leave the store, otherwise they’ll blame you and won’t replace it unless you have insurance on your phone, in which case its totally cool.

    • http://www.droiddoes.com/ Norm

But why wouldn’t you just want to get an android?  It is far superior in every way…

      • Ryan

Norm, you must be one broke ass 300lb white guy because all you do is comment on every single tech article and respond to every damn comment, professing your love for Android. You obviously have no job, family, or friends.

Oh and Android is still shitty after alll these years. Crappy plastic phones with a worthless OS.

      • Anonymous

        Ryan = trolled

  • Max

Aaaaaand another cool smartphone you Blackberry MORONS will drool over wishing you could find the brass set it takes to switch and not tick off all 2 of your BBM friends. Stop drooling, idiots. It’s easy to switch.

Lmfaooooo this is funny but sooo true!!!! I’m facing the same dilemma as I speak or better yet, type.

A little too big for me, but this looks like a great phone.

I could’ve sworn my 1st HTC phone (hell my 1st Smartphone) was called or codenamed the Titan. Talk about the second coming…

    • http://twitter.com/computer_tweets KW

Yes, I had the HTC Titan on Sprint many years ago.

  • Johndoeforever

would be great to see a few more phots with other objects beside the titan to give perspective on size.

    • Kwaman

      it was tytan

      • Kwaman

        tytn rather

  • zacamandapio

Can you imagine how big the tiles would be if the screen was a 10″ or 7″ tablet?
There has to be some type of customization for this.

Otherwise, looks good like my old HD7.

  • Anonymous

Didn’t this table post for pictures yesterday? Not a bad looking phone, it WP7 was a worthy competitor, I would check it out.

  • Partyboyfelipin

no front facing camera on any of the WP7 phones yet? im really diggin the OS but thats omething WP7 needa to think about in my opinion

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=726905044 Jauhar Khalid

The Titan does have a front facing cam.  All new Mango phones will.

  • Anonymous

The title says it all. Hands on. Because unless you have 8 inch long fingers your not gripping this with one hand. Nice phone though.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aedebiri Airen Edebiri

4.7″ screen, but only 800×480? Why? That sounds terrible. A screen that big should be qHD or even 720p resolution IMO. I’m guessing this limitation has something to do with WP7′s spec requirements, but I just don’t see why they didn’t up the resolution on such a big phone.

  • http://twitter.com/majankajan majankajan

No Hdmi out, No dual Core,, No SD card, No Lte, No 3D,  and so on. is this BETA? Good specs. Not!

    • Anonymous

No lifer at it again. You have our pity…

  • Jeremy

Im pretty confident T-Mobile will eventually get this…. The radar is much too feminine of an upgrade to the HD7.
