BlackBerry bug knocks millions of users offline in Europe, Middle East and Africa

mobile

BlackBerry users in Africa, the Middle East and Europe have been without service since 11:00 a.m. Monday, The Telegraph reports. A bug on Research In Motion’s server in Slough, England is to blame and it appears to have impaired all users, independent of carrier or device. RIM has not issued a statement on the matter. “There is an issue with BlackBerry services at present,” a T-Mobile UK representative said on Twitter. “RIM [is] investigating this at present.” Additionally, Batelco, a wireless carrier in Bahrain, issued a statement that confirmed the service was out in the entire country and explained the issue is being “dealt with by BlackBerry providers in Canada.”

Thanks Adam!

The only thing Blackberry had going for it was security.  Nothing is left.  Adios.

    • Applesucksfatties

So a server going down means they aren’t secure anymore? Good job..

ps.  When you get your new greeting card maker, will you send us all one?  I’d love to get a greeting card from your new i3GS+ version 2….

my best friend’s mom makes 77$ an hour on the computer. She has been out of job for
9 months but last month her check was 7487$ just working on the computer for a few hours. Read about it here goo.gl/syatb

Awesome… great work for an online hooker showing her nasty goods.   Maybe Max’s mom can give it a try!!

    Brazil with the same problem.

ha ha ha. Same problem? Same server? I knew numbers were down but this is ridiculous!

    Amateur hour is over.

Just another reason to switch over to Android, iOS, or WP7. With them, you only have to worry about one aspect of your internet, i.e. your carrier, going down vs. two, carrier or BIS/BES.

  • John

this is why i left BB years ago. complete utter horse malarkey

    • Applesucksfatties

You left them because a server went down?  Geez.. cause that doesn’t happen to any company with electrical equipment…

      • John

it wasn’t “a server”. it was it constantly happening all the effing time. i’d have to get on crackberry  & see “BIS down again”. never happened with my Android device. just sayin’…

      • Applesucksfatties

I’ve been a BlackBerry for the past 6 years and RARELY have had service outages on AT&T.

      • somedude0123

        @ Applesucksfatties LMFAO at RARELY.

      • John

@Applesucksfatties you’re obviously not a power user to realize it was down then

      • Applesucksfatties

Yeah.. I’m not a power user… John.   Since you are such a “power user”, I bet you are walking around with a portable generator to keep your Android phone powered up.   How many times have you had to reboot today?

      • Applesucksfatties

@c08bca40f525a3027aff08d4570a2b67:disqus – awe cute.. your little buddy John liked your comment.  Maybe you can send him a greeting card from your new iPhone…

Hold up john when apple had down time when they tried to route data to there new data center why you didn’t jump ship then? and it was down for a long time.

      • John

        you mad bro?

      • Applesucksfatties

Why would I be mad?  My BlackBerry works just fine…

      • John

not sure, this is why i asked: “u mad bro”

not sure how else to lay that one out for you lil timmy

      • Applesucksfatties

Sure buddy.. not sure why you would give two shits if I was mad or not.  If you don’t like BlackBerry, I could care less.   I just find it funny that it “has happened to you regularly” when I’ve used BlackBerrys for the past 6 years and encountered very few outages (of which I’m sure some were RIM related and some were also AT&T related).

      • somedude0123

That’s all you got? Greeting cards? Lame.

      • Applesucksfatties

Talking about LMFAO and sucking d*cks..     That is all you got?  Riveting!!!

      • Blip

maybe the point he was making was …… it does happen to every company……but some have adequate disaster recovery……and some…………DON’T.   ;-)

      • Applesucksfatties

And my point back to him was that it doesn’t “always” happen with RIM….like he stated.   Hardware failure is pretty much a guarantee when you work with electronic equipment…  yes, there should be backups in place, but no disaster recovery plan is perfect.

There are still people using Blackberries out there? Or all they all third world dung collectors?

    • Applesucksfatties

Yeah dipshit.. 70 million to be exact.   Speaking of dung collectors… have someone clean up that drool on your keyboard and change your poopy pants.

      • Not Again

well 70m last quarter. 60 this?

      • Applesucksfatties

Last I checked, the release of BB7 devices was growing market share… so I doubt the 70 million users will be shrinking to 60.. nice try though…

      GO AWAY

  • Slash182

Google copied all emails and adressbooks out of RIMs servers – that took all capacity!

  • Concerned

Why do you only publish negative news about BB?   How come BGR didn’t post about RIM killing Apple in India, etc.  I really do not understand why only negative news about RIM gets posted on all these tech blogs, is it because they are Canadian?  I seriously do not understand.  They have issues, more than I can count, but RIM can’t possibly be the only cell phone maker with problems and no positive news.

    • Applesucksfatties

It is Monday and iBGR has to get in some RIM jabs at the beginning of the week.   They could have posted an article about RIM’s recent acquisitions… or about RIM releasing NFC tap functionality soon.. but nope.. they have to “report” on a server outage in EMEA.

      • somedude0123

How does RIM’s dick taste today? Considering all of Wall Street is up except RIM, I suspect it tastes like failure.

      • Applesucksfatties

Because Wall Street affects how my BlackBerry works?  Oh wait, it doesn’t.   Now shouldn’t you be running along?  There is a line outside the Sprint store waiting to buy the latest iGreetingcardmaker… and you need to be in it..

      • Anonymous

you must know how it taste to be asking a question like that

      • somedude0123

P.S. – Is RIM’s dick shrinking at the same rate as their marketshare? If so, it must be easier for you to swallow.

      • Applesucksfatties

Last I heard, market share was growing again with the release of the new BB7 devices.

ps.  You talk a lot about sucking c*ck… is there something you want to come out of the closet about?

      • somedude0123

Aww, how sweet. Your buddy QNX came to back you up, maybe you you guys can message eachother on BBM later.

      • Applesucksfatties

yeah.. we probably could.   How is that native messaging app working on your iPhone.. oh wait, it doesn’t have one.

      • tee hee

They could use one of the cross platform instant messaging systems now! Much better I hear than the ol’ proprietary lock in. Think of all those millions of new friends they could make ;-)

      • The Thrasher

Hey us iPhone user have a messaging system now.. Of fudge, all users must be on iOS 5.0.. Ohhhhhh great.

I will say the world would benefit if RIM allowed BBM on Android & iOS.

      • Blip!

Are you saying it’s a trivial matter because they have so few users in EMEA nobody noticed? Please explain.

      • Applesucksfatties

I never said it was trivial…   especially when an estimated 10 million users are affected.  My comment was regarding how BGR, in typical fashion, will choose to write about the negative with RIM.. but you don’t hear anything about the positive (i.e. acquisition of a new company, or developing additional NFC functionality).

      • The Thrasher

It’s been to long, BGR needs to thrash RIM. Sounds like this story is typical blown out of proportion.

      • Crash

Agree BGR is pretty negative towards RIM these days….but…..FYI this story is fully reported in the “quality” national press right across EMEA. It looks like a server going kaput dragged the whole service out for nearly 24hrs. That is pathetic. An ex RIM employee who worked in the service provision area is being quoted as saying the whole infrastructure was antiquated and in need of upgrade

Who knows. But a server going down shouldn’t take out millions of users for 24 hours. Should it?.

    • Anonymous

Welcome to the ibgr where they suck the most apple cocks and bash a company they wish were dead while Tim cook butt fcks them with that POS 4s

      • Not Again

ah yes, but they used to talk sweet about RIM too…… before the wheels fell off. Get over it buddy.

      • Applesucksfatties

Get over what?  That iBGR staff drink more Apple flavored Kool-Aid than all of the kids in NYC, Chicago, and LA? I think we all know who’s arse iBGR kisses on a daily basis… so nothing really to get over.

  • 343

Who said it was a bug?

  • MADBRADNYC

Why is BGR reporting this as “BUG”?
The servers are down…. Inconvenient but things happen….
They seem to want to inject a bit of RIM “insecurity” in the matter…

And from the comments, it seems some are feeding into it.

BGR is very noticeable in their “subversive” reporting…

    • Not Again

       Yea!!!!  It’s not a bug…..It’s …..It’s….. a FEATURE!

      • MADBRADNYC

Damn! I was hoping if someone did reply, it would be a reply of much more intelligence.
I refuse to “Dumb Down” to the amoebic intelligence level of those that frequent BGR & use these other platforms. Need a BlackBerry for assistance?

        Not again… Please… Not again…

Is there someone else here with an education that can enunciate their thoughts, rather than provide grunts & clicks?

Funny BGR post this like its the end of RIM when there’s a major maintenance update in those countries with another app world and BBM update to bring a compatibility with QNX and BBOS this site is a fckn joke

    • Nik sea poi t

No. This is a disgrace by rim. A bloody Monday morning across 3 continents. No forewarning. A couple of bland official tweets and then silence.

I’m a bb user, so don’t come with Any troll/fan boi comments

      • Tee Hee

Well put. It was a bloody disgrace.

And a spineless tweet trying to play the severity down just about sums up the utter denial and delusion RIM exudes these days.

      • http://www.flayme.com/troll/ bananatroll

rim is a disgrace, you should have bought a google powered device. Maybe then the services you depend upon would actually work as advertised.

      • Applesucksfatties

Yeah.. right after it crashes and the battery is drained by noon.     I bet it is fun carrying around a charger and 3 extra batteries so you can get through the day…   Dependable though..   HA!!

“GOOGLE POWERED DEVICE” Last time i checked that POS with a dual ciore processor dont even work with all those shitty apps in the android market. And android needs big processors in order to work properly,When a blackberry can multitask, browse the web,IM,text etc on a 600-800 mhz processor

      • Anonymous

OK my man you must be using a 8320 and wish you were part of the problem.

When apple had downtime behind icloud it wasn’t nothing to post RIM does it there DOOMED todd you act like your daddy Johnathan sometimes.

  • WTF?

I’m not surprised: when I worked at RIM, their internal servers went down almost daily… believe it or not, holding up production & repairs worldwide. IMHO they have a bunch of chimps looking after their systems.

    • Tee Hee

If that were true they now have 2000 less chimps……

Could these two events be in any way related? Perhaps BGR should ask RIM? We love a terse silence in the morning!!!!

      • Applesucksfatties

You seriously need to take your RIM trolling arse somewhere else…

    • Anonymous

And i guess you butt fckd urself with that shitbox (iphone4) while facetime running (another wifi needed app)

Very well experience hacker. This hacker can knock out many users worldwide specially Blackberry smart phones. Other phone brand they can do it.

  • http://twitter.com/omgitskyu KyuSung Ryan Choi

my carrier saying : we dont know where this problem is coming from and when it will be solved. just restart your device from time to time….

    • Tee Hee

ha ha yea that’s BlackBerry sophistication….. battery pull! Nice.

      • Applesucksfatties

So you don’t have to restart your iPhone or Android device if there are network issues?  I hardly think that BlackBerrys are the only devices that need to be reset (nothing to do with battery pulls) if there is a NETWORK issue.  Plus, I’m guessing the carrier is incorrect (like most information I get from customer service)..  I’m guessing that once BIS service is restored, it will just ‘start working’ again without a phone reset.  Again, your comment = FAIL.

outage happened in RIM’s data center in Slough, Berkshire which serves this region. dumb azz

Blackberry is very popular brand name in smart phone. How come there is a bug that disrupt the operations for two hours worldwide. Tha affected party are Europe, Middle-East and Africa.

    • Applesucksfatties

Did you have to reboot a couple times on your buggy Android phone before you finished submitting your dumb ass rant?

      • Tee Hee

possibly…… but even then that would be better than no service at all?

How is that paperweight of yours?

      • Applesucksfatties

Considering I’m not located in Europe, the Middle East, or Africa.. so my BlackBerry works just fine.   Your comment = FAIL

      • http://www.flayme.com/troll/ bananatroll

lol no, my bionic is functioning flawlessly as usual. That is the result of actually caring about the solidarity of your users. RIM charges the poor bastards who use their phones for 1 minute of tech support at 10 bucks per minute. Plastic outdated phones, shabby unituitive os, and about as reliable as a AMC straight 6 – thats BB phones for you.

        ANDROID FTW

      • Applesucksfatties

Not sure why I would need tech support on my phone, but I’ll give that to you.  I know Microsoft charged crazy amounts for tech support for Office/Windows issues.. so I don’t think RIM is alone in this.    As for your Bionic, congrats..     I’m curious to know whether you have even picked up a Bold 9900, much less used one?

      • Anonymous

Last time i checked all androids were all plastic

      • Applesucksfatties

@QNX:disqus  -  Apparently all of the free/cheap Android phones flooding the market are all made with titanium, gorilla glass, and other “premium” materials.  Didn’t you know that?  I didn’t?  I’m surprised that carriers are taking a hit giving these premium quality devices away.

@bananatroll:disqus  – sounds like you need to take the banana out of your tailpipe…

      • http://www.flayme.com/troll/ bananatroll

All android phones are not created equal, which is yet another reason why BB fails in a very dramatice fashion i have had 2 curves and three bolds and they they all had the same problem: technological and user interface inferiority.

        android ftw

Ps: the banana was stuck there by rim so tell them to pull it out! Hahahahaha

      • Applesucksfatties

Sure buddy… you and your buggy, battery sucking Android phone go be happy… I’ll stick with my inferior BlackBerry and actually get something done while you are busy rebooting or swapping batteries.

      • http://www.flayme.com/troll/ bananatroll

        1. I have not ever needed a battery swap be ause andfoid is infinitely more stable than any hack’em up version of bb software.

        2. Stop grasping at straws dude, rim’s devices are painfully outdated in nearly every Spect possible.

Like i said before, android is the pc of 2011 that was the pc to mac in the early 80′s. It is vastly more versatile, customizable, and tweekable to the extreme compared to the tired old man that is BB. I really dont need to say anymore, just let the facts speak cor themselves dude. RIM is on the fast track to doom in the mass market consumer space. Theg have lost ghe market to rivals which are both inovative and intuitive… Seriously just stop denying the obvious here, and allow the penetrative effect of market share and technologicall superiority to dominate your thoughts. Now do you see? RIM is literally in the position now that germany was in WW2.. Utter defeat! So suck some more milk out of cupertino’s and mountain views tits and see the light. RIM is officially a giant sad and worn out fail!

        ANDROID FTW
