Apple sells over 1 million iPhone 4S handsets in first 24 hours

Breaking

Apple has confirmed that the company has sold a mind-numbing number of iPhone 4S devices in pre-orders, over one million of them. The previous record was from last year’s iPhone 4 launch which totaled over 600,000 in one day. Apple had a larger amount of global carrier partners for this year’s launch, including Verizon and Sprint in the U.S., but that doesn’t take away from how incredibly impressive this is. Apple’s press release is after the break.

Ok, so Samsung sold 10 mil Galaxy S II devices in 5 months.  How long will it take for Apple to sell 10 mil iPhone 4S’s?  Like two weeks?

The voice of reason here.  Yes, me.  I find it interesting that if us Goofans (aka Apple Haters) gulp up millions of phones, it’s because Android rocks and Google’s God.  But if iPhone sells a bunch day one it’s because it’s users are stupid sheep.  I hate Apple as required by the Goofan (aka Apple Hater) bi-laws, but not too irrationally.  Right?

Grizzly Atoms- I think you are the moron because an OS should be easy to use by all type of consumers. Otherwise you just have to make it for an elite group of people. One of the reason IOS is so successful is because anyone can use it.

From my observation, 90% of people thinking of getting a new phone really don’t care about what OS is running on the phone. They either want an iPhone or a Motorola or a Samsung or an HTC or any other phone. Some of these people will get the phone dependent on budget, others according to word of mouth and others just by the look of the phone, if its nice they will get it. Others walk into a store not know what phone they want and they rely on the salesman to tell them the latest and greatest phone, because you know what? most people dont read tech blogs so they don’t care or know about all these specs and OS’s people in here rave about.

That being said, millions of people are buying iphones because they are nice phones, they can play games, they have apps all many other reasons. And these are the same reasons people are buying Samsungs, HTC’s and other phones in the millions as well the only difference being that the iphone is selling more than any other single phone. Will see how well the Galaxy S II preorders go and since, according to Fandroids, it is so much better than the iPhone4S and Android is the best mobile OS since it has the largest marketshare, it should easily get more presale numbers than the dissapointing iPhone4S.

Notice I didnt mention that Android is selling more than iOS because what really matters to Samsung and HTC and other Android manufactures is not how much Android is gaining market share, its about how many Galaxy S II’ Samsung is going to sell and how many HTC Sensation’s HTC is going to sell. So for example if Apple sells 1 million iPhones, HTC sells 500,000 handsets, Samsung sells 600,000 handsets, Acer sells 200,000 handsets, SonyEricsson sells 300,000 and Motorola sells 400,000, Android will have 2million devices and iOS will have just 1 million, meaning Android will have a greater marketshare. But how will that help Samsung if it didnt sell 1 million handsets like Apple? How will Android marketshare help Motorola if it didnt sell as much as Samsung and Apple?

The other 10% (I am being generous here) are the people who actually care about the OS, the specs, and in this regard the people who were dissapointed with the iPhone4S. But the reality is Android is number one in marketshare NOT because the majority of the people buying the phones love Android, most dont know or care about the OS, Android is number 1 simply because its on many different good devices and its on many cheap devices being given away for free. It will continue to be number one because of this but guess what, Apple will continue to do good as long as it keeps selling 1 million phones in 24hrs. Android may as well have 80% marketshare but Apple will continue to sell well, just as Samsung, Motorola, HTC and others as well.

Anybody that thought this thing would not sell like crazy has simply not been paying attention. While it may not be the best phone on the market it is the best iphone ever. This means a lot to a lot of people. iphone fans, while probably not the most tech savvy are probably keep it simple fans and from what I understand the iphone is super simple. Mix that with the most relentless marketing campaigns ever, you will never loose when it comes to market penetration and popularity.

I wish these Android VS. Apple arguments would stop. I urge people who’ve never tried Android to use an Android phone for a couple months and those who have never tried an iPhone to do the same. I’ve used both and I prefer the iPhone, if that makes me an Apple fangirl than so be it. I didn’t dislike Android I just liked the iPhone better.

The majority of people don’t care about a bigger screen
The majority of people don’t care about specs
The majority of people do prefer an attractive looking phone
The majority of people do prefer a fluid and smooth OS

Apple has great marketing and when you have that along with a beast of an ecosystem it’s going to be hard to knock them off their throne. No one cares if don’t like Android and no one cares if you don’t like Apple. Find something else to do with your lives.

Just goes to show how stupid people are…put the word apple on a blackberry and they would buy it up like crazy.

Apple is to the cell phone market as Madden/CoD are to the video game market. People love buying the same thing every year with barely any changes. People who had an Iphone 4 will buy this and will buy an Iphone 5 followed by the 5S, 6, 6s etc.

Its a rather funny cycle and shows how stupid people can be.

Congrats apple. Not gonna hate but I still can’t justify why I *might * want to buy an IPhone or any “I” device. My mom has and ipad 2, it’s cool, choky sometimes but I like it. However I’m not blind and realize there would be no real excitement in doing the same thing, looking at the same screen all the time. I’m not a fangirl of android but to me, android just works. Everyone had their cup of tea and says apple just works but android does to. Not “all ” their phone are bad and sometimes specs do matter. If that was the case apple wouldn’t have changed specs to make a new phone. They clearly understand where things are going. But kudos to them, they know what people want. Failure leads to success… Apples story. Which ultimately will soon be androids story.
