Sprint to launch 15 dual-mode 4G LTE/CDMA smartphones and tablets beginning mid-2012

Breaking

Sprint’s vice president of devices Fared Adib announced at the carrier’s Strategy Update event on Friday that it will begin launching dual-mode 4G LTE/CDMA devices toward the middle of 2012. Tablets, smartphones, entry-level and high-end devices will launch next year, and Adib mentioned “iconic devices,” which has historically indicated EVO-branded devices.

So when are they getting the iPad???

    • Anonymous

Why is it remotely important that they get the iPad? … not like the iPad brings contracted customers… which is what they need

It was just a question, since they are the only one left yet to carry it.

iPad 3 will go to all three carriers and this time it will most likely be a hybrid CDMA/GSM device akin to the 4S

See that would be nice!  Keeping my fingers, eyes, and toes crossed.  That’s because the LTE won’t be fully compatible correct?  AT&T, Verizon and Sprint have differnet LTE frequencies with their respective networks or am I wrong?

No, you are right, even though we will have three carriers with LTE it will still be as fragmented as it has been. Apple may go LTE with the iPad 3 not sure, but if they make one devices that supports the LTE, CDMA, GSM frequencies of each carrier, it should be an interchangeable device. Get sick of one carriers prices or whatever, just take it to another carrier. That is how it should be, but  I doubt it will.
Apple clarified that an unlocked GSM iPhone 4S bought at full price won’t be interchangeable with CDMA. The unlock will enable access to any GSM network globally, but won’t have the firmware for each specific CDMA carrier, which is needed to switch between Verizon and Sprint.

Sprints on a roll. Cant wait for LTE with unlimited data

    • Anonymous

Picture “premium” data prices x3 or unlimited goes away. They already are losing money/subscribers hand over fist every quarter for years. They’ve changed about 5-6 features just to “save” unlimited data. Do you really think they’re going to just hand over unlimited LTE for free? Especially if it’ll be cdma/wimax…bye bye to all “grandfathered” plans. Let’s get real.

Look who is ‘sprint’ing to the finish line and trips over it’s own two feet?

This is good news .. Cant wait to use the next iPhone LTE

YES! If the Prime doesnt have LTE for Sprint come on SHARP LTE!! the Aquos 104SH looks amazing..

Today made me realize how much Sprint is really trying to improve their company and make it the best they can. I’m glad I’m with Sprint.

I agree with you there. Not rolled over like Tmo

1900 MHz LTE? Where do I sign up for LTE that can’t penetrate building walls?

    • Anonymous

2500mhz in Anaheim is penetrating fine for me..

edit: They will also move to 800mhz once iDen is moved to CDMA DC

    • Ashleigh

Agreed. Will be useless without good building penetration. Not as bad as WiMax but bad enough.

  • Jordan Eddelstein

Yay, this is like some slap in the face to all the people who were hoping to get 4G Wimax in their area so they can finally use their 4G they were promised. However, LTE is much better, I just hate that I wasted money on a 4G Wimax device and never even got a chance to use the 4G radio. Now, I have to wait for this LTE build-out and buy a new handset.
-But who doesnt love wasting money, Sprint seems to.

Big deal…. by the time the roll out the 5th LTE device out of the 15 on the roadmap, Verizon will be lanuching 5G lol

Wait, so let me get this straight…

    1. Dan pays 20 billion dollars for 30 million new iphones ( and more or less buys his way into the “iphone race”)
    2. All chips are now announced to be in one basket
    3. Announced new Iphone “S” will not only just be a copied Iphone 4 (essentially) but will have crap for speeds on anyone but AT&T
    4. Then announce LTE/CDMA in the very near future causing customers to rethink buying out his now HUGE inventory of Iphones
    as
they aren’t the beloved “5″, they’re slow, and people would want to wait for the switch to LTE and the new lte smart phone/iphone anyway.

Man, I really hope he has plan B ready to go. Hopefully Sprint will be worth enough for someone to buy out…

Whoops double post but ill add this
CDMA is dated and super slow…like EvDO slow

I love the underdogs. It’s how apple started out now look at them. The key ly thing missing is the dan Steve mix that will never happen but hopefully it will. Surely sprint will get better and it Sucks they have to make sacrifices to stay a float but that’s business. I say bravo, im proud to be a customer. Beggers can’t be choosers. Good thing come to those who wait. I’ll wait for this lte, and I’ll be grandfathered into my plan when it happen.
