Google and Samsung postpone Galaxy Nexus event [updated]

Samsung has just announced that the product launch event at CTIA Fall planned for next week with Google won’t be happening. Here’s Samsung’s statement:

Samsung and Google have decided to postpone the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event during the CTIA in San Diego, previously scheduled for Oct. 11. Under the current circumstances, both parties have agreed that this is not the appropriate time for the announcement of a new product. We would ask for the understanding of our clients and media for any inconvenience caused. We will announce a new date and venue in due course.”

We know the Google and Samsung teams have been working around the clock on the Galaxy Nexus, but a postponement a few days before the event doesn’t make too much sense. We’ve reached out to Samsung and Google for further clarification, but it looks like we’ll have to keep re-watching that leaked video from this morning over and over for a bit longer now.

    So I’m seeing reports that SJ’s funeral was held today. A small private funeral with friends and family. RIP. Now I just got to call Google and Samsung out on their bullshit excuse. I have seen that they “claimed” the postponement was out of respect for Steve. What a total crock. Sounds like something is wrong with their product. Most likely software. What a joke google and samsung are. Trying to use Steve as a scapegoat for their inability to produce a quality product. Google and Samsung will be dead in two years.  true story™©®

    clearly the ios vs. android wars continue more heated than ever.
    what does it matter if somebody purchases one smartphone over
    another… regardless of specs, screen size, operating system, etc.
    this whole “your toy sucks because…” is useless to argue. but
    apparently nobody realizes that. who cares what reason anyone
    has for buying anything… other than they want to… end of story.

    As amazing as it would have been to have seen the Galaxy Nexus come out I have to agree with their discussion to postpone the unveiling of it after Steve Jobs funeral. Regardless of whether or not it shows up at CTIA this year,it’ll be an incredible phone and will set the standards for everyone else in the mobile industry. Idk how I feel about Ice Cream Sandwich though. R.I.P Steve Jobs

    Android is a failed platform and you guys are too blind to know it – couple of exceptions, such as htc and samsung, are making you want to believe, but that will change. Developers are starting to hate it and its getting harder to make a buck as each day passes.

      If you had an Android device you would know that there are tons of developers out there that simply love developing for Android even if they don’t get too many donations…. My captivate, which is over a year old, still has so much development going on for it. Not even mentioning all the application developers.

    I don’t know if i’m the first person to figure this out or not but the answer as to why is simple… They will be attending a funeral of a dear friend… Steve Jobs. The two companies have duked it out but when your both playing a varitable “game of chess” with billions of dollars the two players become rather close and I believe they see it as an inapropriate time to shock the world with a super phone the likes of what there going to announce at the same time there burying Jobs. Give em a week to announce it, its only fair.
