Dell reportedly bails on plans for new Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) phones

mobile

According to WPCentral, Dell will not launch any new Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) smartphones. Dell was planning to release a device called “Wrigley” according to earlier reports, which was supposed to be quite similar to the Venue Pro. WPCentral said it has confirmed with “a higher up” within the company that the Wrigley is no longer in the pipeline. The report goes on to state that Dell is considering new devices for the next version of Windows Phone, ode-named Apollo, but no decisions have been made. “We have not made any announcements confirming that Mango or Windows Phone devices are no longer in the pipeline,” a Dell spokesperson told BGR when asked to comment on the claims. “Dell is committed to providing the best mobility solutions, regardless of the operating system, to our global customers.”

Smart move Michael. Stick to PC’s, there is NO future for Windows Phone OS devices, NONE. CRAP never sells, NEVER. Rember the PlayBook ? Nobody wants to play. Capiche ?

If you’d actually used a PlayBook you’d know it wasn’t “crap” … it just didn’t have all the content at launch. Huge difference… and that’ll change.

By content you mean to the Mail and calendar APP ?

Do you mind sharing how you worked that out?

Why don’t you actually try a Windows Phone before you judge it? And don’t come back and claim that you’ve used one, because you clearly haven’t. Mango is very slick.

Are they making ANY more smartphones?  Seems like they haven’t announced/released anything since the Venue and Venue Pro.

It was difficult to understand why Dell thought they need to make a phone to begin with. Just because everyone else is doing it is not a good enough business reason.

Why does Dell even bother with cell phones.  To date, I don’t think they’ve put out even one decent device.

Dell is very committed to Windows devices.  They’ve ended their BB’s internally, ended their relationship with AT&T (moved to TMO, only to find out a month later that TMO was being purchased by AT&T), and have rolled out their own Venue Pro to employees (many not happy with the decision).  While Dell remains open to Android, their relationship with Microsoft runs deep.  This may not be a Dell decision to go the phone route, but rather Microsoft ‘asking’ them to build and support a Windows mobile device.  They’ve began putting together a mobile group to sell enterprise solutions, but it’s in the infant stage.

That’s sad… Dell Venue Pro 2.0 would be awesome, one of the new sliding QWERTY keyboards (not sideways)!  Next version could be slimmer, faster, and more awesome!  Love this phone with WP 7.5!

Off topic – but really bad picture of the dell logo.  You need to raise your F-Stop or use a broader focal area. :)

This is a product that can compete in the market

Dell can hardly make a decent product anyway. Every dell inspirion I’ve owned lasted maybe 6 months before it was too slow to use. My Toshiba and HP are lasting way longer than any Dell product I’ve ever owned. They’re the Kyocera of computers.

Rumor has it that they don’t plan on making android phones either. Why isn’t this news????
