Samsung posts Nexus Prime and Android 4.0 teaser clip [video]

mobile

Samsung just cranked our anticipation meters up to 11. The phone maker on Wednesday posted a teaser video for the Nexus Prime, which is expected to be unveiled during Samsung’s Unpacked event in San Diego on Tuesday, October 11th, alongside Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The video does not reveal much about the phone or Ice Cream Sandwich, but we do see the Nexus Prime appears to be incredibly thin and it will sport a curved glass display similar to the one on the Nexus S. Additionally, there are three small metal dots on the side, which suggests it may support one or more dock accessories. Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to run on both tablets and smartphones, merging Honeycomb and Gingerbread features into a single Android build. BGR will be reporting live from the event, where we will hear all of the details on the new operating system, the Nexus Prime hardware and more. Samsung’s full teaser video follows below.

Whoa that thing was built with metal and braun! The curve isn’t that dramatic to me. I’m ready for my close up.

Prime says: “Android bots, transform and roooll out!” All hail a LIVING PRIME!!
    Can’t wait…

I get it, the Nexus Prime Rib, because it looks like ribs!

    *Warning Advisory*
You cannot eat the Nexus Prime Rib

Hopefully not too big, really some of these over-sized devices should be considered a tablet with phone features.

I’ll take practical and fits in my pocket over flashy any day.

I’m confused about why Samsung is referring to the announcement as a “combination.” I’m expecting a singular thing: a smartphone. What else is coming to be added together with the expected smartphone? It couldn’t just be the OS on the phone, could it? An OS is not really a different “thing” for most users. Maybe the new phone has an integrated BT headset or some other peripheral. Could it be a stylus (ala the overseas Samsung Note)? Maybe, but a stylus doesn’t seem like a combination comparable to “cookies + milk” “newspaper + coffee” or “planner+ fountain pen”; but then again the fountain pen makes me wonder if it’s a stylus again. The even on 10/11 is official anticipated.

Quoted from first page of comments: very interesting….

“Perry Ahern 1 hour ago in reply to Grizzly Atoms
And there are rumors that the dock will actually be a gutless tablet, making this the brains for a Nexus tablet. The glowing blue line and the black areas extending off the phone do look tablet-ish, plus dock connectors on the same side as the power button would be awkward unless it docked into something with its own power button. Instant OS updates and no need for a second data plan? Sign me up!”

Samsung…  copying Apple’s font too?   Have you no shame.

P.S. how many of you tech nerds are *still* comparing specs when you weigh the value of a phone.   Remember how well that went over when comparing the Xoom and Galaxie Tab to the iPad 2?  Yup, you fail.

Ha! you’re a funny little gnome. no more interweb for you today, Now go stand in the garden!

Haha, that’s what separates Android owners from iPhone users.  And notice how I used the word owner and user there.  Android owners tweak weather widgets and brag about specs, while iPhone users USE their phones.

    That video sucked.

This design looks terrible. It may be pretty on display but it’s not practical to use and carry in your pocket.

Is this anticipated to be on Verizon?

    • Anonymous

It will most likely be on T-Mobile because of their relationship with the Nexus Android smart phones. As for any of the other carriers, I hope so.

I thought I was going to have a seizure watching that. Nice to see that Samsung is trying to emulate Apple’s adds too though. Don’t you quit being a copycat, Samsung!

If u use apple products, u aren’t an advanced user, u will never truly be able to understand or appreciate android open source or linux….since bgr got trendy this month the comment sections is filled w no nothings or I know so little I don’t even realize how naive all my comments are…its watered down average American douchebag go buy and stop pretending u know something about computing, just take ur cookie cutter vanilla, that the beauty of the iPhone it does all. The work for all the morons, who couldn’t do a thing w their device wo an app or who would instantly break it if u allowed them to access to the source code

  • whoster69

Yeah, I can’t wait to get this phone!  Hope it lives up to the guesses about its specs!

  • Erk

As soon as an android developer makes a device that looks as good as the iphone 4, with the build quality of the iphone 4, then maybe apple will worry about a redesign. Samsung makes great devices with beautiful screens, then packages them in cheap plastic sh*t. HTC’s design’s were hot and innovative…. in 1st quarter 2010.

Hey, I agree, apple f*cked up, pissed me off. But why can’t HTC, samsung, and motorola put as much into the design and execution of the hardware as apple does?

  • Anonymous

Well, it’s not like Apple has a choice now. The idiots sued people that supply screens to most cell manufacturers. That was not the brightest strategy.

Apple doesn’t do AMOLED so it’s okay.

  • Dan

I hope to god that google brings a voice assistant on 4.0 just to piss off apple.

  • Prof. Peabody

looks to me like a curved Samsung Galaxy phone, with a similarly curved tablet that lays on top.  At least that’s what the picture looks like.

  • Deegle

Gosh! There is so much talk about the new iPhone on this thread. Isn’t this about the Nexus Prime? Let’s bring it back home okay? Okay. It doesn’t matter what it ends up looking like. It will inevitably be yet another forgettable Android device. It may look very nice but groundbreaking, innovative or even notable are words that will never be used in terms of these types of devices. I’m sorry. It’s just not something that comes from pumping out device after device. I’ll leave you with this phrase to remember when thinking of Android phones. It seems to be Google’s slogan these days anyway, ” Jack of all trades, master of none”.

    Thank you :-)

i have to admit that i am not a fan of the curved glass panel on a mobile phone at all.

    Wheres the micro sd slot?

I think now, after Apple released not the long-expected iPhone but iPhone 4S, Nexus Prime won’t have many rivals.

  • Pyus13

    three dayz…cant wait….
