Leak suggests Amazon Kindle Fire may surpass iPad pre-sales

Business

Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet is sure to be a hit according to purported internal figures leaked by CultofAndroid. A screenshot of Amazon’s availability look-up and SKU aggregator (ALASKA) reveals that there were already more than 254,000 pre-orders for the tablet at the time of the leak. To achieve that pre-order figure, Amazon must have averaged 50,000 unit orders per day, or more than 2,000 units ordered each hour. For comparison, Apple sold 300,000 iPad tablets on its first day of availability, which also included pre-orders and sales to partners and retail channels. CultofAndroid said Amazon has also received more than 20,000 pre-orders for its Kindle Touch and more than 12,000 pre-orders for the Kindle Touch 3G. While at least one analyst has argued Amazon’s Kindle Fire will “hardly be an iPad killer,” it appears Amazon’s strategy to price the device far below the iPad will help it compete quite well. Hit the break for a larger image.

The thing looks pretty cool, but let’s not start making wild assumptions before people get it in their hands. Not to mention, recent news might suggest that bgr’s sources are not very good. (ip4s) lol

There is still plenty of time for many to back out of their orders. Amazon don’t charge until it prepares to ship it and it can’t be cancelled.

True, but I trust Amazon like I trust Apple when using their products or services. I’m sure it will be a quality product. Competition is always good and I prefer when a company prefers to make their own hardware and software because it will always be a superior solution.

Nothing makes me happier than apple failing. This is great news.

Why? I want Apple to succeed. As well as Microsoft and Google. Even Blackberry. The better each company does, the more it forces the others to do well also. And we get the cool gadgets resulting from this.

        Exactly right..

I am not an iFanboy but I don’t like Apple to fall.  It is exciting on what they’re doing because it also keeps other companies from innovating and trolls to say their pieces.

Without Apple, people like Scroat won’t exist.

I will be pre-ordering the Kindle fire next week, instead of the Iphone 4s. I use Apple products as well as others that I fancy.

its cheap and nice, but with no camera i dont see it being that useful

    • JL Jones

The Fire is targeted as a portable media consumption device – why does it need a camera?

      Just asking..

    • jeff kutsch

Some people don’t need a camera on a tablet.  I’m one of them.

  • Lol

Lol. Just cause Honda might outsell BMW and has a lower price tag doesn’t make it a BMW killer. Same here.

    • JL Jones

Only thing with that analogy is that Hondas are in a price segment that is affordable to more than BMW.  Also, Honda makes very good cars, often as highly rated as BMW…

    • JL Jones

In addition, the Fire is targeted at Amazon ecosystem consumers – If Amazon is able to attract new consumers to their ecosystem with the Fire, I imagine that that is like “icing on the cake” for them (Amazon).

Mind you i’m sure it’s the same mindset with Apple and their iOS devices as well.

And Honda doesn’t sell you leatherette, lol

The million dollar question is how many Kindle Fire devices will they receive from their supplier in time for Christmas

  • Anonymous

It’s cuz those can afford the Kindle Fire.  Bahaha.  Duh.  If iPads were as cheap (you get what you pay for) everyone and their cows would own one.

The Kindle Fire is an Android tablet killer, iPad competitor, and very friendly to the wallets of people who are daily reminded we’re still in a recession right now.

Didn’t the iPad 2 beat the iPad on first-day sales? Why are we comparing the Fire to the first iPad?

  • Anonymous

GREAT for web surfing, emailing, reading books and documents, and consuming Amazon services. It’s also easy on the wallet. The KF will be a SMASH hit. Bravo Amazon.

  • Trdracer21

Well android goes up apple goes down

  • Xraytedjim

The sales numbers don’t mean squat to apple. Amazon is probably losing money on each tablet sold, while apple is raking in a huge profit on each iPad sold. Where Amazon hopes to make money back is in digital sales. A pretty goods business plan. Hope it does well.

I think the Fire will rapidly become the second best selling tablet.  That being said and since nobody has said it yet, here goes…

I wonder how many will returned?  Said like a true Apple fanboy, even though I am not one.
