Sprint ends Premier program in bid to save unlimited data plans

mobile

Sprint has reportedly started to send out letters to its Sprint Premier customers alerting them that it is ending the program. The letters indicate that December 31st, 2011 will be the final day of availability for Premier benefits, and Sprint’s New for You Upgrade Program will take the Premier program’s place.”To allow us to continue to offer you the value of unlimited data plans and cutting-edge devices, we’ve had to make some hard decisions,” Sprint said in the letter. “We want to let you know that the Sprint Premier program is coming to a close. This decision was not an easy one for us but one we feel is necessary at this time.” Sprint’s Premier website has been updated to reflect the closure of the program, and Premier subscribers can follow the read link below for additional details.

What is the Sprint Premier program? And what is the New For You program that will replace it?

Premier program allowed your line or a primary line in a family plan to upgrade yearly with a 2yr pricing if they met the monthly fee required.  Now that’s removed and the New For You is basically the same crap that lets you upgrade 2 or 4 months before your contract ends.

VZW had the same thing and removed it few years back.

I thought that Sprint was 86′ing unlimited or at least throttling data speeds after 2 gig on or after Oct 5th. Another way to save money.

Wifi tethering only. Doesn’t apply to phones…………………………………………..yet

What they did earlier in the year, was they changes the premier program into two tiers.. it made people lose upgrades they had.. immagine how pissed someone would be, walk in and get told you have a upgrade. Walk out, come back three weeks later to buy a phone and you dont have a upgrade.. I’m so glad I left sprint.

They actually pulled it awhile back. I tried to upgrade about a month ago and was told that my premier account had been cancelled and that the letters had already been sent out.

They are also killing off BTA (Bill to Account) on October 5th 2011. Right after the iPhone announcement.  Meaning you can no longer bill your next upgrade to your account instead of going into the store an buying your phone upfront.  Wow with all these changes Sprint had better have that damn iPhone.

Dont care as long as unlimited data is intact

For how long though?  What then?

I bet it will be next – that’s how it goes.

I would just make the data caps 10GB for everyone and stop cutting shit.

  • Linkmyballs

I bet they ended it because the Iphone is coming and that would be a steal to get an upgraded Iphone every yr AND keep unlimited everything. Read between the lines people.

In Tampa Fl, my Verizon 3g is faster than my gf’s Sprint 4g……regularly. Sprint can keep their unlimited data. Being grandfathered in on the 5gb unlimited on Verizon or AT&T > Sprints slow data rates.

As i said, thats here in the big city of Tampa.

I got a smart phone for data usage, not to trade saving money for crappy service.

      5 GB unlimited?

  • Quick74nogo

I don’t care for the iphone at all. To bad everyone else seems too. :/
