RIM calls PlayBook discontinuation ‘pure fiction’

Breaking

Research In Motion on Thursday responded to a market rumor suggesting that production of its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet had been stopped, and it was considering an exit from the tablet market. “RIM doesn’t typically comment on rumors, but any suggestion that the BlackBerry PlayBook is being discontinued is pure fiction,” a RIM spokesperson told BGR in an email. “RIM remains highly committed to the tablet market.” BGR reported earlier on a note from Collins Stewart analyst John Vinh stating that RIM’s manufacturing partner Quanta had been ordered to discontinue production of the BlackBerry PlayBook in light of weak sales. Vinh also said that RIM was canceling development of future tablets.

no need to rejoice because I know BGR is as full of shit as you are….

Hey, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Every seller is saying the same thing, the PlayBook ain’t selling enough to merit their efforts. Which means the buying public is not turned on by the device, no matter what RIM may say. Eventually, RIM will see the light, just like HP did, and fire sale that piece of junk.

    • RD

How about you try fact checking before you spew nonsense!

“Every seller is saying the same thing”??

Even BGR, with their anti-RIM rumors, posted an article last month
exclaiming the stellar sales of the playbook – check their article from August 22nd.. its called “Fantastic Blackberry Playbook sales reported by major Australian retailer”

BGR clearly has an issue with RIM. Maybe he applied for a job there and didn’t get it. :)

Blackberry Playbook just beat Watson at Wheel of Fortune – leaves IBM baffled

RIM is going through the first stage of grief currently, denial, and barely creeping into the second, anger.

Next will be bargaining, and depression, and finally acceptance of the PlayBook’s untimely death.

  • Justin Lisenby

RIM is just denying the rumors in a effort to sell a few more PlayBook tablets. The plan to release OS 2.0 at DevCon and they think this will create a surge in sales. If not, then they will publicly kill the PlayBook.

It bothers me when people bash BGR its their job to tell is the latest news and they stated it was a rumor. I think some people just read head lines and think they are if the know. If you want news 2 weeks late go to Phone Arena.

Isn’t it normal to confirm the report before reporting it?  This kind of nonsense doesn’t help anyone.

    • RD

Each negative piece of news (whether false or not) definitely helps pad the wallets of Zach Epstein and John Vinh who short RIM shares…

The SEC really needs to do something about tech reporters who don’t
provide transparency.. how much money did Zach get paid from investment
firms? how much of a personal investment does Zach have/earn from
      shorting RIM?!?

I really hope this goes to the courts, and we read about legal action in the news..

Send an e-mail to the SEC to report a complaint, or e-mail RIM
supporting/encouraging a lawsuit to ensure transparency from so-called
      reporters..

      • RD

In terms of legal action.. even investing in a competitor (ie. investing in Apple) while reporting FALSE negative rumors to affect shareprice.. is biased reporting..

I really hope Zach get reprimanded..and justice is served

Sadly, I think the pure fiction is RIM making any money on these things.   They never would, but they’d sell a lot more if they could be made to sync with popular smartphones, say like Android and iOS.  I’d sure look at one seriously if it did.

I mean, the first iPod wouldn’t even sync with PCs… :)

  • Useless_bgr

    BGR… Your are just pathetic.

Here’s the actual sich:  RIM HAS halted Playbook manufacturing for the time being.  Why?  Because they have over 800,000 sitting in their warehouses waiting to be shipped to Best Buy, etc.  They don’t want to make any more until they get through this backlog.  hence the crazy sales this week.

    • RD

actually, RIM made the smartest play possible by encouraging retailers to have sales.. this floods the market with playbooks before the new ipad & other tablets were released.. I knew many people who liked the specs of the playbook, but needed one of two events to push them beyond the tipping point to buy one: price drop or huge surge in apps.. and these sales are just want was needed to get them to buy!

  • Zaffu

This is a news planted by RIM to start off a playbook fire sale. They need to use a better lighter.

  • http://twitter.com/hasan1 Hasan

So all this just to push the share price down 3%. This should be the bottom for RIM. I would buy shares if their Devcon event is a success.

This is absolutely my last visit to this site period. I must confess Iam a tech info junkie, and really used to enjoy coming here for infomation. But this site has become a pure stream of garbage. And yes Iam a blackberry fan with thick skin (you have to be to visit) but this has crossed the line in the sand. I can not nor will I continue to grace the pages of this domain any longer. I have watched with amazement as this site has decended into complete and utter infantile sabotage. You can no longer be relied upon for reviews, info or news as you and your socalled team can not be trusted to just give competent information. Now Iam sure you really could care less about one persons decison. However it is my belief that in time you will rue the day this site conducted its business affairs in such a manner. So with that being said I will move on from this place and seek the tech news I desire from a more complete scorce. Good luck with the “iOs all the time” business model hope that works out well for you.

YEAH TAKE THAT RUMORS ha HA, RIM ain’t stopping the production, just haltin it, sheeit. they’re just laying off a few employees at the production facility cause they have 800,000 units sitting there already made, and they’ve only shipped 700,000 in the last 2 quarters, so at this rate production should ramp right back up in about 3 quarters….oh wait 500,000 shipped in the first quarter of release, the 2nd quarter only saw 200,000, and we have 800,000 sitting around…fuck
