Homemade iPhone 5 built from glass and aluminum is most gorgeous design yet

mobile

We’ve seen about a hundred different interpretations of what Apple’s iPhone 5 might look like at this point, and we probably all agree that October 4th can’t come soon enough; regardless of what Apple unveils next month, it will finally put an end to the rumors and speculation. Apple’s next-generation iPhone might be an incremental update, a major upgrade or even both, and while current signs are pointing to the optimal scenario — a revamped low-end iPhone 4 and an all-new redesigned iPhone 5 — we won’t know for sure until shortly after 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time on the 4th. In the meantime, however, we can dream. Ben Miller of German mobile site BenM.at has gathered all of the case leaks, rumored specs and mock-ups that have trickled out over the past few months, and actually built a physical best-guess iPhone 5 out of glass and aluminum. The result… is gorgeous. Miller’s design definitely resembles the Case-Mate renders we exclusively reported earlier this month, and if the real iPhone 5 looks anything like this, we can’t get our hands on it soon enough. More images of Miller’s mock-up follow below.

kinda reminds me of the iphone 3 on a diet…i still think the iphone 4 looks better with the glass and everything…very sophisticated…i dont know about anyone else but on those cold nights i would hate to grab a cold ass phone made of aluminum.

Iphones, HTC’s, Samsungs, ect; They all look the same, some a bit thinner, some a bit thicker but there all a black slab of glass, plastic and metal and from a few feet away look identical, Blackberry is the only distinctive phone out there….untill they finish dieing.

Yeah – and most cars look exactly the same in opposing lanes at night. Whats your point? Companies should give up in design?

I think these things are getting too thin!  I have large hands, so something a bit heftier usually feels more comfortable and secure.  My Droid X2 is fairly large, but even still I would be fine with it being as thick as the camera module hump at the top.  As expensive as these devices can be, personally I would rather add a few extra millimeters to make it easier to hold (and with that space you could fit more goodies inside!).  Just MHO however.  It will be interesting to see if the guy that produced this fine mock-up was on target or not.

As beautiful as it is (and quite a feat to make it look so realistic), I think someone might have too much time on their hands….

    To BGR…

Could you please publish an article, backed with solid arguments, for explain to all the fans of all board, that their is nothing new under the sun, and EVERY tech company COPY the work of others once a while.
Please be clear, that patents, decisions of judges never mean truth of who invented things first.
Just look as MS, who since the start bought or stolen ideas….
Also, don’t forget, that multi-touch screens and gestures existed in the mid 70′s…the design always repeat itself….

I wish they’d use the iPhone 4 design on the iPad 3, hate aluminum like I said above.

  • Torsnow

Looks like every other iPhone ever.

Last I checked Aluminum was only good for Soda Cans and those things are weak, just like my Macbook Pro which has dents and scratches all over it! I refuse to upgrade to another Apple laptop unless they stop using stupid Aluminum.

    • Bpresles

@twitter-20495194:disqus LOL! If you don’t take care enough of the products you buy, no surprise you have dents and scratches.
Don’t tell me you take very much care of your laptop, the fact that you are able to have scratches and dents “all over it” proves that you don’t take care of it enough. I never had dents on my MacBook Pros and very few scratches (you can count them on one or two hands).

What a complete waste of time to mockup what you think the next iphone is going to look like.  I like the iphone but this is just dumb.  It’s like you have no life!    To top it off, just the right box, though it’s really wrong as it’s not WHITE, with the perfect Apple font.   It’s just silly.  Can’t you just wait for the Apple Surprise?
