Amazon to launch Kindle Fire tablet for $200

Breaking

We are live from Amazon’s Kindle Fire press conference in New York City where the online retailer is about to announce a $199 Kindle Fire tablet. The Kindle Fire is equipped with a 7-inch display and can connect with Wi-Fi networks but will not ship with a 3G chip, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday. Customers will also receive a 30-day trial to Amazon Prime when they purchase the Kindle Fire. Amazon Prime allows customers to stream movies from Amazon’s Unbox service, which now offers content from FOX, and provides free 2-day shipping. The device is largely expected to look like the BlackBerry PlayBook. Amazon is also expected to reveal a $79 entry-level Kindle. BGR will be bringing you more details on the tablet in the coming hour and we expect to deliver a hands-on shortly, too. Stay tuned.

    Late for the game.  DOA.

For a little more, I’d rather get an ipad and jailbreak it to get everything for free.

cool? looks really boring and just plain, i like all the other tablets because they all have their own style, this just looks like a black rectangle, just my two cents

Looks boring so that Apple won’t file a lawsuit against them like they did to Samsung to try and block sales.

        hahahahahahahahaha

Yes, because Apple owns the patent for “cool”.

      • Ulysses Grant

Cool? no..it has to be iCool. I hope they won’t patent iCool.  Lame…

That’s because people don’t realize this is a e-reader that can run android apps at a low price. Amazons brand name is just as popular as Apples. This will sell like hot cakes.

Dont be suprised if the Kindle Fire sales millions.

good pricing at first, but we need a review video to check the quality of the product. If the screen is good, sensitive, everything is smooth, no lagging. I think it’s quite a big hit!!

    • Wow

Totally agree. At that price if it is ok they will sell millions of them. Different market to iPad. Smart move from a smart company?

Black bezelled tablet in portrait form.  Apple is going to sue.

    1) It’s a mock up, so for everyone saying “it’s ugly,” chill until the real pics are released.

    2) Lack of 3G is sure to turn off a few potential buyers.

    3) This is probably as close as it gets to a viable iPad competitor. Android manufacturers haven’t yet figured out that consumers aren’t just looking for a shiny tablet. As it stands right now, the tablet market is basically iPads and and bunch of other stuff that no one can tell (or cares about) the difference between. Consumers want quality, integrated content as well, and aside from Apple no one has gotten it right. I think Amazon understands this, so I expect the Fire to do well.

Maybe not quite iPad numbers, but enough to make a dent in the market.

Seriously, have you used an android tablet like the galaxy 10.1?  Guess what 90% of consumers use their ipad for?  browsing the web.  Guess what android tablets do better?  Browse the web.

The only selling point for an ipad over an android tablet is apps, which vary based on users needs and wants in spending additional money.   Functionality wise the average consumer would get more out of their tablet if it was an android tablet.

If the selling point for an iPad is apps, then maybe most use it more for apps and not for browsing like you claim.

This is a kick in the balls to almost all Android OEMs out there.

    Oops!
Here comes the real iPad killer…
Quick, people, fire up eBay, you might get a good price for your brick if you act now.

Apple Fanboys shouldn’t get mad at this…. iPads are cool but in my opinion i have my iPhone for that why pay so much for a bigger iPhone. But at 199 how can you go wrong. Yes it looks like a playbook, no its not a honeycomb tablet. Its not a tablet its the evolution of e-readers.
