Verizon: Apple injunction against Samsung will ‘harm U.S. consumers’

Legal

Verizon Wireless has decided to back Samsung in its ongoing legal battles with Apple, Reuters reported on Monday. “The requested injunction of certain Samsung products will harm Verizon Wireless and U.S. consumers,” Verizon Wireless argued. “It also has the possibility of slowing the deployment of next-generation networks — such as Verizon Wireless’s — contrary to the stated goals of the U.S. government.” Apple has successfully blocked Samsung’s local subsidiaries from selling its GALAXY Tab 10.1 tablet in Germany and from selling the GALAXY S and GALAXY S II handsets in the Netherlands. In addition, the iPhone maker has sought to block sales of the GALAXY Tab, GALAXY S and the GALAXY S II in Japan, and has delayed sales of the GALAXY Tab 10.1 in Australia pending a decision in an ongoing lawsuit.

You go, Verizon! “Snap, snap, snap!” (In a Z-shape)

So you’re cheering on the same company who teamed with Google to kill net neutrality which gave us data caps and tiered pricing?

The world is filled with interesting people.

      • Jon

No. You have it wrong. I’m cheering an act, by Verizon, which was good for consumers.

… Silly goose. You just assumed I was cheering the whole company.

It’s not like they don’t have a finger in the pie, now, does it?

In plain English, Verizon are about to roll out their 4G network. For some reason Verizon have a single supplier for handsets that can use it. That supplier is Samsung. So if Apple manage to stop the import of the Samsung handsets to the US then Verizon have nothing to sell off of the back of their investment in the busy holiday season.

Sounds like they’re protecting their own back.

Let’s not pretend Verizon gives a rats ass about consumers. They are doing this to protect their bottom line and nothing more..

“For some reason Verizon have a single supplier for handsets that can use it. That supplier is Samsung.”

Where do you come up with this stuff?  HTC and Motorola both have LTE capable handsets on Verizon.

I guess Android just isn’t powerful enough to defend itself; it needs VZW’s help.

      I’ll feed!
what of this has to do with Android? Aren’t their complaints about touchwiz and Sammy’s phone designs?
I hate you. Why are you back?

OG Norm. You must be on the left coast, asleep by the time this came up. Totally agree with you, for realz.

  • dwinsmith

Well a good chunk of VZW’s portfolio is Samsung so draw your own conclusions.

    • Anonymous

      It is? Such as?

Most headliner phones on Verizon now are Moto or HTC. I think the only “big” Samsung phone they’ve got is the Droid Charge and it’s success hasn’t been great.

    • Jared

      right on the dot.

    Thank you VZW

While I agree with Verizon that Apple’s injunction against Samsung will harm U.S. customers, there is not an atom in my body that believes that Verizon is looking out for the U.S. consumers (or anything other than Verizon’s own revenue stream). I applaud them for nutting up and calling a spade a spade here, but I don’t for a minute believe that they are doing it to help “us”.

    • Adam Zettel

I completely agree with both statements. I am not even a Samsung fan but unlike others on here I am at least rational. It will harm US consumers. Hell no is Verizon looking out for us, why would they? They are at the top, and they want to stay there! I love my Verizon service, don’t get me wrong. They probably do have the best coverage in my area… but I think healthy competition is ALWAYS a good thing for EVERYONE!

    • Anonymous

They are and they aren’t. What does it matter what their motives are? Does it benefit you or not?

    • Jared

Excellent observation, Verizon has always put themselves first above anything else, and consumers are the last thing on their mind.

  • Klingon

Apple didn’t invent the technology to display apps, it just refined the process. Apple needs to get off its high horse and stop trying to dominate the market by attacking innovative competitors. Win in the arena of technology and market share, not the courts, Apple.

    • http://twitter.com/Synergi Synergi

The only thing innovative about Samsung is their screens..

      • Anonymous

You see where Apple is going to employ curved glass on their newer iPhones a’la the Nexus? Apple isn’t above copying innovation.

    • Jared

Apple has to protect their designs, and Samsung seems unable to come up with their own designs. Apple has the right to litigate.

All Apple wants is for Samsung to quite copying.  There is lots of room for innovation.  Patents protect those rights for all.  Apple is just protecting what they worked hard to develop.  You are the one that needs to get off the high horse.  You obviously don’t understand the world of high tech with this post.  You may have other smarts however … Giving you the benefit on that stuff.

        STFU keep sucking.

  • Peter Goesinya

I’m suing Verizon for encouraging people to spend an absurd amount of money on cell phone service.

  • http://twitter.com/gnomehole The Gnome

Aren’t there like a zillion Android devices?   Who needs a copy-cat iPhone…  get Samsung to innovate on their own and Verizon won’t have to worry about their precious network.

Samsung needs to be smacked around a bit.    Verizon’s comments aren’t surprising – they are in it for themselves.    Apple ought to yank the iPhone 5 and see em’ sweat.   (kidding about that last part)

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YCHGT5KAKHAUZ55FASXLGVLMMU Anonymous

Verizon High prices alreadi do this. They RAPE all consumers.

    • Anonymous

You should have joined them ten years ago and, you wouldn’t be crying foul today.

  • Anonymous

Sooooo this means that Verizon knows that iPhone 5 will not have LTE when it comes out this month???  Thanks Verizon, just thanks for ruining that for us!  (lol).

    • Anonymous

Yep, it will be 2G again (if you’re on AT&Throttled, of course). Verizon will have their 3G network to fall back on [dangle preposition]…

  • Anonymous

Wahhh we can’t shit up our biggest selling phone. Wahhh it is harmful to customers not to have our crap.

  • Anonymous

If the U.S. government places a ban on Samsung devices (on the mere fact that crApple cries, “Help us, we can’t keep up with Samsung; we’re going to lose our hold over our sheep!” Then, the U.S. is not the “free country” it touts itself as being and the entire Constitution is a shÂm!!!!

  • Anonymous

I am waiting to see what the new iPhone is about, but these silly lawsuits make me despise Apple more and more, and want a SGS II more and more.

  • Jk

Sound like sprint. “may harm consumers” they really mean may harm profits

  • Keymaker

I believe it has to do more with the fact that Verizon makes millions by screwing with Samsung devices while the iPhone they’re not allow to touch.
