Amazon may unveil Kindle tablet during September 28th media event

Tablets

Amazon sent out media invites on Friday for a press event that will be held in New York City on September 28th. The invitation does not provide a hint toward what will be unveiled during the presentation, although we expect the company to finally take the wraps off of its first Android tablet. The most recent rumors have suggested that Amazon will undercut the price of the iPad by hundreds of dollars, and Amazon could price its tablet in the $250 range. We exclusively reported that Amazon was working on an entry-level dual-core “Coyote” tablet and a quad-core “Hollywood” tablet this past May. Recent rumors have suggested the company’s first tablet device will offer a 7-inch display and will run Android with a custom Amazon user interface on top. BGR will be at Amazon’s event to cover all the action as it unfolds, so be sure to tune in!

Remember hearing something about them Forking Android… doesn’t seem like we’ll get normal flavors….well at least for the 7incher

The 7″ tablet will be just like the Nook Color, with deep integration with Amazon’s services. The second tablet will be 10″ and run Honeycomb and is code named Hollywood from what I have been reading.

        Where are you reading Honeycomb?
Everything I have read says, “F- you Google”

@Generalmishmash:disqus It can’t be an FU to Google… Android is open source.

@Motu – Honeycomb is not opensource and it is likely ICS will not be either.

It is an FU to Google because Amazon don’t want to give their data to Google and that is the only reason Android exists

      It’s not honeycomb…

More mediocrity headed your way. Super shitty software combined with equally shitty hardware. After all it’s Amazon we are talking about, the king of tax evasion.

      You are beyond moronic.

      You a politician or just an a**hole? . . . I guess it doesn’t matter either way.

Android folks, don’t get your hopes up. This will work fine for those that only want Amazon’s services, but you aren’t going to see the “real” Android Market on there, nor will you see Google’s Android apps such as gmail, maps, etc.

That is until someone roots it and installs a custom recovery. Just look at the Nook Color.

What’s the venue? I’m curious because when Amazon introduced the Kindle they did it at the NY Public Library, if I remember correctly. It might be a clue about what they’re introducing if they have it, say, at 30 Rockefeller Plaza…

I personally find Amazon to be very annoying most of the time.

Amazon is a amazing company, they don’t half ass things, if this is true and they are unveiling a Android tablet I bet that it will be the best one ever released.
