Sprint will revamp and deploy a new Direct Connect push-to-talk service on October 2nd, SprintFeed reports. According to a purported leaked internal screen shot, the new service will support international push-to-talk direct connect, an option that isn’t available from competing services offered by Verizon Wireless and AT&T. In addition, the service will support Land Mobile Radio interoperability (LMR), which is typically used by the military or emergency services and is also offered by Verizon Wireless. Other features will include support for simultaneous data and push-to-talk functionality, support for up to 200 people on a push-to-talk group session, per-second push-to-talk billing and notifications alerting you when other contacts are available for Direct Connect. Sprint has yet to officially announce details surrounding the revamped service.

I don’t know anyone with Push to Talk.. Letting everyone hear both sides of a 2 way conversation isn’t my cup of tea…

I can’t WAIT to see this company in the headlines on the ass end of a merger. Just GO AWAY. They’re like that 1 fuckin gnat that flies around your bananas and you can’t figure out how it manages to survive day in and day out…

Yea, like you, I also can’t wait for Sprint to crash and burn, and for ATT to buy TMOB so we will have just have two national service providers.   Choices make me anxious.  The former Ma Bells (ATT & Verizon) wouldn’t abuse a duopoly.  No sir.  Were we separated at birth?

I’m with you. Having too many choices is confusing and makes my head hurt. What would be even better than two carriers would be if we had only one carrier. I’m sure they would act in the best interest of the consumer.

yawn……  Other than old construction workers who don’t know how to check email or SMS who uses PTT anymore?

Well climb down off high horse and see that there are thousands of members of working class people that rely on it. They aren’t elitist snobs who think that they are superior to others, so they don’t consider it beneath their dignity to use PTT.

1 Nextel is the fasted and cheapest way to call USA, mexico, Canada, and brazil.

2 I work in navy boats and Nextel is the only services that works inside all the other providers loses signal.

3 Nextel is grate to talk from 2 to 200 people at the same time ( business of course) .

4 Nextel brings a lot of business to sprint only in my company they have 2356 lines with Nextel only in one little city.

5 if you don’t use Nextel or don’t need Nextel don’t worry about it we do like it a lot and this change for us is probably like getting a android or iPhone for other people.

It’s a mystery. Just like how your brain can muster up enough energy to let you walk and chew gum at the same time. We may never have the answer.

Good to see the international PTT. I am glad to see that Sprint is offering more international devices and services. People that travel internationally are going to need more of a choice if the AT&T/T-Mobile merger goes through.
