‘iPhone 4S’ cases already arriving at AT&T stores [updated]

BGR has obtained images of refreshed iPhone 4 cases that have started to show up at AT&T corporate stores around the country, and there’s one noticeable difference: the size of the opening for the rear camera. If Apple is introducing a so-called “iPhone 4S” — an iPhone 4 in practically the same case with upgraded internals and a better camera mobile — then the camera sensor will be larger than the existing one on the current iPhone 4 model. In the images from our source, which depict cases from popular case manufacturers Otterbox and Speck, you can see the previous model cases next to the new ones to get an idea of just how much bigger the new camera opening is. The only reason to update an existing case that’s been on the market for more than a year with only one physical difference would obviously be to prepare for the arrival of an iPhone 4S-type handset, most likely in addition to the iPhone 5 next month. UPDATE: Multiple people have reached out to let us know that the larger camera opening has to do with the LED flash on the current iPhone 4 and not a potential larger camera sensor. As such, the cases pictured above are likely not indicative of a new iPhone model.

    Is Jonathan Geller’s head so far up Apple’s ass that he can’t do the first part of reporting before throwing up some bullshit link bait, and do a little research.  Twenty seconds of checking on Speck’s website would show these as iPhone 4 cases.  When has a reputable case manufacturer ever had anything out before the iPhone launched.  It’s hard enough getting one for a top of the line Android phone on launch day nevermind the super secret iPhone.  I usually come to BGR just for laughs anyways since it is such a reputable place for non-biased tech news(snicker).  But this is ridiculous, in less than the time it took him to post the pictures and write a couple paragraphs he could have saved a lot of people their time.  Nevermind the idiots at the ATT store that don’t ever know anything about the products they carry.

      Thank you God.  I enjoy rumors as much as the next guy, but this self proclaimed “genius” makes me sick to my stomach.  Every thing this fat idiot says is such complete bull ****.  He’s like the little fat kid in high school who gossips about people because he thinks it will make him cool.  I mean seriously… did you really think this was some kind of “scoop” b/c they sent in a case that any idiot could tell was just an iphone 4 case? Go kill yourself now

    The only different between the new “4S” packaging and the 4 packaging is just the S. The backing does not show any difference between the two. The original iPhone 4 packaging has the volume buttons on the right side as well.

    The speck case was updated back in the beginning if the year with anticipation of the white iPhone. The otterbox wa updated because the proximity sensor for the white iPhone 4 does not work with older otterbox case. YOU ARE COMETELY WRONG!

    Actually the case on the right in the Otterbox picture, in the updated packaging is specifically for the WHITE iPhone 4, because of the slight difference in depth.  There was a release sent today that said the old one is for the black one only and the new one is only for the white one.  Just to clarify.
