Apple to launch white iPod touch in October, no hardware changes in sight

Apple will announce a new version of its iPod touch during the first week of October when it takes the wraps off of the next-generation iPhone, according to MacRumors. Apple will not redesign or revamp the iPod touch in any major way. It will instead launch a white model of the popular multimedia player with slight tweaks to the ambient light sensor and with the addition of an oleophobic screen coating. Parts for the new iPod touch first surfaced in July, and the images suggested that the overall industrial design would remain untouched. Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also said he expected Apple to hold off updating the hardware of the iPod touch this year due to a tight supply chain and continued demand for the iPhone and iPad. The white iPod touch is expected to hit the market in mid-October.

        Not that I do, iTouch 3G which I have was thin enough.

        Meant thinner as an example of how its a victim of its own success that they made it so thin, that they would have to wait two years to make any major polishes to it.

        It definitely needs 4G LTE.  My currently wifi only ipod touch just doesn’t cut it for me anymore.

    They really need to have a properly placed mic on the next one, the only mic is on the back for the rear camera, which makes sense for recording audio and video their from the rear camera, but what about for third party apps, and when using the from facing camera, when your looking a the screen. Next iPhone should have 3rd mic on rear camera as well, for better audio recording through rear camera, and possibly as another voice cancellation mic. Or move the noise cancellation mic next to the rear camera, and use it as the noise canceler and the rear mic.

    I have one, and the best thing they could do to the design is flatten the sides:  it’s too thin to be tapered as it is.  I find it uncomfortable to use and awkward to operate.

        Competition is exactly why they don’t need to do anything to the iPod touch… But comparing the price of a new touch to a used iPhone 4 (after the 5 or 4S comes out), I’d just pick up an iPhone 4 and use it as an ipod.

    This is supremely disappointing . i have always upgraded my touch each year and hope to do so if im not sold last years device with a paint job. if this rumour is true. i would never buy another apple product in my life….its a shame to see a company that owes so much to the ipod cripple it so badly if this rumour is true it just shows an utter disrespect for their customers, its either they do not do their research or they are poorly adviced…. after all the waiting.
