Sprint’s Samsung GALAXY S II, Epic 4G Touch now available for $200

mobile

The first of Samsung’s GALAXY S II devices to land in the United States, Sprint’s “Samsung GALAXY S II, Epic 4G Touch”, is now available online for $199.99 with a new two-year Sprint contract. The Epic 4G Touch has all of the trimmings you’d expect from a high-end smartphone including a gorgeous AMOLED Plus display, 16GB of storage, a 1.2GHz dual-core Samsung Exynos processor, an 8-megapixel camera capable of capturing 1080p HD video, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chats and support for Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network. We are currently working on our review of the Epic 4G Touch, which we will be posting in the coming days. We can already say the GALAXY S II is among Sprint’s best smartphones currently available, but you’ll have to wait for the full review to find out why. Read

    Nice!

.,, I just got a 827.89$ iPad2 for only 101.17$ and my mom got a 14989.89$ HTV for only 253.93$, they are both coming tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prîces at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37″ HTV to my boss for 500$ that I only paid 78.24$ for.
      I use ÉgoWin.com

    Damn you Verizon!

      Damn you AT&T

I would have this if it were on VZW.  As it stands now, i’m waiting for the PRIME -most likely November – :(

I would be much more interested in these phones if they weren’t still sporting the same old WVGA resolution screen.  My Moto Droid rocks the slightly higher resolution of 854 by 480 on a smaller screen.  This just feels like a downgrade in that perspective.

Dont look at numbers just put this devise side by side with anything available and you wont care about numbers. Its beautiful in person and when next to my  daughters iphone4 its even more amazing. The iphone screen looks really yellow next to the E4GT

That’s reasonable. :) I’ll have to take a look at it; contract is coming up in the not too distant future, so just starting to look at some of the things that are coming out.

Samsung has way better screens than Motorola. I have an AMOLED on my Droid Incredible and it is really crisp.

    • Drew

Here’s where you guys need to put down the spec sheet and stop kidding yourselves… Your Moto Droid may have higher resolution and pixel density but Super AMOLED Plus vs. your PenTile matrix display is in every sense of the word, a FAIL!! You keep telling yourself it’s a downgrade…

      • Scott Duffy

And you need to pick up the spread sheet dumb dumb! The OG Droid was 854×480 LCD (No Pentile). Super AMOLED + is still Pentile (just they finally added more sub pixels), so it still looks worse than an LCD because that’s 100% the amount of pixels. But I will give you that the colors are awesome on AMOLED.

      • Drew

Sorry bro’, you need to catch up… Super AMOLED Plus is NOT PenTile, it’s RGB. Who’s the dumb dumb..??

      • Scott Duffy

@scribbles92:disqus Alright, I’ll give you some credit, as you’re right that SAMOLED + uses RGB, however, 800×480 at 4.5″ still looks like doo-doo!

      • Anonymous

Wow, could you BE more obnoxious?  As Scott mentioned, the OG Droid does not have a PenTile matrix display; its display is gorgeous even compared to most of the newer phones that have come out since its launch.  Does the E4GT look better?  Don’t know, haven’t compared them side by side, but in general, I would prefer not to lose resolution or pixel density.  You really just need to calm down and back away from the anti-PenTile crazy train.

Went by this morning and handled this phone.  Very nice.  I just cant be tempted to use Sprint.  VZW better show a solid phone soon…. aka “Better than Bionic”

    • Anonymous

Depending where you live, Sprint is not bad- I left Verizon after 8 years, and I save myself some dough, and I’m happy with the phone line up. If you travel a lot and really, really, really need the stronger network, stick with VZW. But I ain’t complainin- especially when I get the bill

  • Scott Duffy

Too much cheap plastic and poor screen res!

    • http://twitter.com/manozz Gundruk

Compare its screen to “retina” and “qhd” in person and come back here.

      • Scott Duffy

I have. Text still looks like crap against an iPhone 4. Sure, the colors look great, but it looks too pixelated for me. 800×480 looks fine on my Nexus one, but stretch that to 4.5″ and it looks terrible.

    • Anonymous

      Do you prefer cheap glass?

      • Scott Duffy

No, as I own a Nexus One, thank you very much! I just hate that Sammy uses all plastic and its thin and just feels “cheap”. I couldn’t stand how poorly built my Captivate felt (one of the many reasons I returned it). My old Nexus feels better and still functions well for being 2 years old!

      • Anonymous

The other Galaxy S phones have a lot of plastic, but the captivate has a mostly metal build… are you mistaking with another Galaxy S phone?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=63900900 Sean Eppel

I don’t see why so many people hate on plastic.  It’s lightweight, durable, and helps to keep costs down.  If I have to have a bit of plastic on my phone for it to stay at a 200 price point, then I’m fine with that.

Another non thinking sheeeple who hasn’t handled or seeen the phone and has no clue.

Put a case on it like most folks and you can’t tell whether it’s tungsten or recycled milk bottles.

The screen looks gorgeous and to my eyes as a photographer blows away the qhd pentile of the Photon.

Kids really should learn to comment based on personal observations rather than simply regurgitating what the rest of the sheeple who can’t think keep on saying…..

      • Scott Duffy

Why am I getting called a sheeple? I currently don’t own anything Apple (I’ve owned iPhones in the past). Maybe you’re a sheep too since you probably love Android. Who really cares which one I like? That’s right, just me.

And while yes, you’re right, I haven’t held the GS2, I’ve seen the Infuse (same screen), and it think it felt cheap and the screen looked nice (but I didn’t think text looked all the great). And I’m not putting a stupid ass case on my phone. I’m an adult and I can make sure I don’t drop it. Simple as that. I’m not going to cover up a nicely designed phone by some condom because people are stupid and can’t hold a phone.

  • JoNES.R,

…SPRINT just had to release this on a friday which means it wont arrive @ my doorstep until TUES.

  • Anonymous

You sure this ain’t iPhone 4?

    • Drew

Yeah because the last time I saw one it had 4 capacitive buttons, a 4G icon, 7 panels, a weather widget and a big ass Samsung logo plastered at the top. Yeah, I think you’re right, dude…

      • Anonymous

I assumed people would see my sarcasm (with my past posts and all) but I guess not.  Let me augment my post with a little “/s”.  Better?  BTW, I like your sarcasm.

    • Steve Lee

      retarded

  • Yerp

Samsung phones look nice but I’ve had terrible luck with them (many hardware issues). That paired with Sprint’s weak network means I’ll have to pass on this.

  • Anonymous

Picked mine up this morning. Puts my Epic 4G to shame! This is one awesome phone!

  • zacamandapio

    Very nice device.
But so are the other 528 android phones.

    Decisions, decisions.

  • Bony_fingers

This is my very first smartphone so I may be a little biased but, this phone is gorgeous! It is as fast as all of the reviews have claimed it to be and the super amoled gorilla glass is a delight on the eyes and the jobsite. I’m
also happy that sprint chose the 4.5 inch screen for us bigger folks.

  • Steve Lee

    Retarded at&t…..

  • Trisjen Harris

I am seriously considering this phone as my next upgrade from the Htc Evo, WOWWWW!!

  • http://www.pixelreason.com PixelReason

So I went to a Sprint Kiosk today and asked if they had an Epic Touch to demo and the sales girl said “No, we don’t have them in yet, but you’ll love it. Are you excited for it? Yeah, it’s designed out EXACTLY like the iPhone!”

My face didn’t know which one of my emotions to convey. My disgust for her stupidity, my anger for her really dumbass statement, or my utter shock at her stupid and dumbass statement. Love the phone. Love Sprint. REALLY didn’t like that uneducated sales pitch! D:

    • Anonymous

she must have worked for Att when the only pitch they had was ”but we have the iphone”

  • Anonymous

Dam you samsung for putting out another POS! NEXT!

  • Llen22

Samsung has a shitty touch! I hate it! I would never own a samsung phone again! I have EVO now I’m upgrading to sprint iphone! You have to upgrade not down grade!! =)

  • Solutionman

played with the phone at Sprint store today. It’s a plasticky, cheap feeling pos. Can’t wait for iPhone 5!

    • Solutionman

the touch screen was all imprecise too, I touched n it didn’t do what I wanted. All busy. iOS may be boring n predictable to some, but at least it works n is rock solid. Android feels amateurish n half baked.

Nothing on verizon stacks up to the lineup on sprint…It’s time people realize that just because you are the biggest carrier doesn’t mean your the best. The EVO 3D, PHOTON 4G AND EPIC TOUCH 4G PIMP SLAPS anything verizon has period. And let’s not get into price or overcharging because again verizon would LOSE. Simply put if your on any other carrier other than sprint then your not in the tech game plain and simple..

  • Rr

    I own it its awsome

  • RRot

Sorry, too late.  The S II is already obsolete.  I will picking up my Nexus Prime in another month.  Thanks anyway.

    • http://profiles.google.com/smschmidt64 Scott Schmidt

Guess you didnt hear the news about the primes hardware yet

      • Gerry Thomas

Guess you don’t understand processor architectures.
