Sony PlayStation Vita to launch in Japan on December 17th

Gaming

Sony announced on Wednesday that its next-generation portable gaming console, the PlayStation Vita, will launch in Japan on December 17th. Sony also said it has teamed up with Japan-based wireless carrier NTT DoCoMo to provide 3G connectivity on the device. 20 hours of 3G service is priced at $13 while 100 hours will set customers back $65. The system will launch in tandem with Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Square Enix promised to port Final Fantasy X as well. Sony expects to begin taking pre-orders for the Vita on October 15th and said the first 500 units sold will come bundled with 100 hours of free 3G connectivity. We had hands-on time with the Vita during E3 in June. It is expected to launch in the U.S. next year for $249.99 and AT&T will provide stateside 3G connectivity.

“20 hours of 3G service is priced at $13 while 100 hours will set customers back $65″

At least as far as 3G plans are concerned in the US, this doesn’t really make any sense.  We should be talking about data, not minutes; I’m not even sure what this means.

Also, with a lot of smart phones now offering mobile hotspot, plus many businesses offering their customers free wifi, paying for 3g access seems silly.

not if you are constantly moving if you are always moving you will soon realize how limited wifi really is

Oh great, another worthless pile of shit from Sony. Maybe they should pair up with RIM to build ultimate turds?

I bet AppleSux buys one of these piles of shits! He loves piles of shit!!

Though the product seems so nice and tempting, what turned me off is the 3G service. It is quite a bit nonsense. I think they should expound more on this 3G service. Try making us appreciate it.

How would 3G turn you off? Sounds silly and uniformed of you as a consumer. I am a store and i wouldn’t buy a smartphone phone because it has 3G. The purpose is to be able to play online wherever you are on the go.

You Don’t Have to have 3g if you dont want to. a wifi only version is available for people with “abundant” wifi.

@The thrasher you keep messing your eyes up with that 3ds garbage.

Hmmm… Another report mentioned it was the first 500k preorders that will get 100 hours of 3G, not 500…

Still prefer wifi over 3G. if you go over your data and you have to pay more. I will buy the Wifi version so I’m glad it’s coming next year so have plenty of time to save up and going to start reserving it.
