Sprint may launch iPad 2 in addition to iPhone 5

Tablets

Apple and Sprint are preparing to launch a new version of the iPad 2 at the same time or shortly after a Sprint-compatible iPhone 5 is unveiled this fall, a new report claims. 9to5 Mac states that Apple and Sprint have completed development of an iPad 2 that includes an embedded cellular radio compatible with Sprint’s data network. It is unclear which Sprint data network the tablet will support: the carrier’s older 3G network, its 4G WiMAX network or perhaps even both. No previous reports indicate that Apple has conducted any late-stage development with WiMAX — which Sprint is shifting focus away from moving forward — so a 4G-enabled iPad 2 may not be likely at this point in time. The report also notes that Sprint may offer its unlimited data plan with the iPad 2, as it is expected to do with its iPhone 5.

The iPad 2 and the iPhone 5 are about the become the best selling tablet and the best selling smartphone on Sprint, just like at Verizon and AT&T :D

Can’t wait for the droidbois bitter tears.

No one would argue that the iOS devices would be number one selling.  The arguement is centered around which is the better OS in general.  Also, by bring iOS devices to Sprint, you introduce the cancer that is “tiered data”.  As a Sprint user who has been happy with my service, I would hate to see quality go down hill and tiered data become a reality just because of these effing devices.

i COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU 100% I LOVE MY UNLIMITED DATA….

You’d hate to see quality go downhill? I bet you were devastated once pos Crapdroid devices went on sale at Sprint then :’(

Yeah those android devices sure are PoS. I mean who wouldn’t want devices light years ahead in processing speed, storage options, and a litany of other advantages that iOS fails to give it’s sheeple?

Yeah – let me tell you… I’ve been so utterly disappointed with my HTC Evo, Evo 3D, and Photon. All phones I’ve enjoyed far greater than the iPhones I used to have…

This started with AT&T because they want as many customers as they can get their grubby hands on, but they don’t have a network that can support it. Greed, is the other factor, they lower their prices, lower how much you can use, get even more customers and have the same pos service..

Verizon, does whatever AT&T does. However they do have the Network, its just Greed on their part.

Sprint needs the customers, but I don’t think their network is much better then AT&T’s, unless you are near a highway. Sprint is in danger of getting gobbled up by Verizon so lets hope Apple does bring in a flood of customers and help save them from such a fate. Sprint is desperate, and the only bargaining chip they have are their prices.. They don’t want a repeat of losing customers over bad relations as its already crippled them down to nothing..

Even with that, iOS lags far, far, far behind Android’s dominance in every market and category.

Can’t wait for the apple fanbois to continue to mindlessly mind their cupertino masters while us ‘droidbois’ enjoy real freedom in our phones.

Why do you care?  Do you own stock in Apple?  Oh, I get it, the iPhone got you through a rough patch in your life.

It’s a damn phone/tablet, give it up. (I own an iPhone.)

Do you homework before you sign up for Sprint service, I DID NOT. I reside in Sarasota, Florida and have been saddled with Sprint since July of 2010. I’m using a Nexus S. To say their service is HORRIFIC would be an understatement. I’m switching to Verizon withIn the next 45 days and will be glad to pay the Sprint ETF of $200. Again, MY Sorint service both cellular and data are HORRIFIC. I refuse to believe that Apple would allow the iPhone or iPad to be associated with the Sprint network.

jds4300 – is there a way I can reach you directly? Try to work through this Sprint issue you are having?

I get amazing service with sprint… I switched from the overpriced crap fest at Verizon. To be honest I think verizon dropped more calls in my area and their customer service is a nightmare

    • Booyah!

Hey jds4300 if you knew anything about sprint. You would know that sprint users Roam on Verizon’s network for free. So if you don’t get any service in your trailer park with sprint you probably wont receive any with Verizon.

  • Justin Lisenby

I would love to see Sprint just get the iPad 2 and no new iPhone launch at all. iPhone 4 can more than handle the load of iOS 5 and it’s the perfect device till Apple can get LTE out.

Could someone explain to me what the obsession is with Apple and Sprint?  Are we really expecting everyone to just jump on board with Sprint if all of this happens?  I’m assuming the hype comes with the fact that Sprint still does unlimited data, but as all businesses, they’ll likely change that if the load picks up. I, for one, am NOT interested in a Sprapple deal.

    • Anonymous

Really? Apple is the reason carriers are killing unlimited data plans? That’s a pretty naive and stupid assertion to make.

Also, Apple devices are a big deal for people who wanted an iPhone or iPad originally but didn’t want to switch carriers and so they have no choice but to put up mediocre Android devices. Apple coming to Sprint is like giving a glass of iced water to someone in hell.

      • Anonymous

Except it’s been shown that Android has more data intensive users than the iPhone…

You’re either a non-obvious troll or need mental help.

And again, 4 year iPhone user here so I’m not an Android fanboi.

      • Anonymous

Its pretty Naive and Stupid of you not to see the correlation. ATT terminated their unlimited data due to the bandwidth hogging of the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. Verizon did the same once the iPhone came along to their network. The iPhone and popularity of the phone itself increase network usage and in turn, cause a fiscal toll on the network along with quality of service. The networks, in turn, have to charge to sustain their own costs.

Apple coming to Sprint – as far as users like myself are concerned – is like bringing Malaria to the Caucasian population.

Aww how cute, Sprint selling the iPhone, long after its considered the most important mobile OS. And the huge string of missteps by Sprint continues.

    • Anonymous

Why is it the most important mobile OS and when did it get that crown?

  • http://profiles.google.com/the1aboveall James Padilla

Yes but 9to5 Mac didn’t state where they got their info.  Did they?
