Apple may surprise with MacBook Pro refresh later this month

Computers

Apple is planning to sneak in a modest refresh of its high-end MacBook Pro line later this month according to a new rumor. AppleInsider cites multiple anonymous sources in claiming that Apple’s MacBook Pro line will receive a light bump in late September that delivers marginal speed improvements to the laptops’ Intel Core i-series processors and little else. Intel’s just-announced 2.4GHz, 2.5GHz and 2.7GHz quad-core Core i7 processors are expected to replace the current 2.0GHz, 2.2GHz and 2.3GHz chipsets found in Apple’s current 15 and 17-inch MacBook Pro models, the report says. Apple may also update the current 2.7GHz CPU in the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Intel’s new dual-core 2.8GHz Core i7 chip. If the late-2011 MacBook Pro refresh does occur later this month, AppleInsider says it will take place after September 20th when Apple’s back-to-school promotion is set to end.

They are refreshing from their current sandy bridge cpu’s to the more recent released sandy bridge cpu’s.  Thats it.  Quite the “surprise” BGR.  ffs

still waiting on an entire refresh (hardware plus design)..

Makes me wonder whether waiting for this upgrade is worth passing on the back to school promotion.

Yes. Better performance > Software bucks you’d probably blow on Duran Duran and itunes eps of Felicity anyway.

Good point.  It’s also probably worth waiting to see if they upgrade the screen resolution on the 13″ MBP to match the 13″ Air.

Depends on whether he needs that performance or not. The quad core bumps would be worth it if ne actually needs that power, but if he doesn’t, then he’d be getting something a bit more powerful than something that is already more than he would ever need.

        Just sayin’.

Higher performance now = better product longevity overall, and the longer he can delay replacing it down the road. That’s a no brainer, when it comes to value.

why would apple do that? it doesn’t make sense
    if so….it will be a mistake…in the business decision…

i can’t upgrade my phone and my macbook pro at the same time…
    who brings this joke???

It does make sense. Release a new MBP; people who want the best will sell their current 2011/2010/2009 MB/MBP and buy this one.

A large percentage is ignorance; people thinking they need the extra power when it would do virtually nothing for what they are currently doing.

But hey, throw this in there along with the iPhone 5 announcement and the keynote just got a bit better, right along with iCloud information and stuff. Then they release another bump when Ivy comes out next year.

      They know what they’re doing.

I wouldn’t exactly call a modest spec bump a “surprise,” especially seeing how Apple has a history of doing this.

That’s no surprise; they will do whatever it takes to milk their sheep out of more money. What will they include with [THIS] refresh – “copy & paste” to iCloudâ„¢

Breaking news…..iBGR editors Gellar and Epstein line up to eat an apple flavored turd.  Shortly after, they bash RIM for not creating an equally delicious turd for their consumption.  More at 10….

Why would they alienate customers that bought their new MBP this year?! Why not wait ’til May, like always! Seems too insignificant to make a change in production. This might make sense, if all other MBP’s could be upgraded to the same specs.

Hey Boy Gayness Report stop acting like such iTards and screening comments. This is supposed to be a open free speech forum not Foxxconn China.

As for your article about minor hardware tweaks the only comment to be made is WHO GIVES A F**K

    Thanks for ruining the surprise!

So, where is the “surprise”?  Spec bumps of processors is now surprising?  I’d consider that expected.  It would be more surprising if they didn’t bump the specs.

That will be saved for the next mid-year MBP refresh ‘/

And have a matte screen option, or at least a ‘no glass front panel’ option.
