Fusion Garage slashes $200 from Grid10 tablet before it even launches

Tablets

Fusion Garage’s first tablet reportedly received a grand total of 90 pre-orders before being discontinued, and it looks like the company’s sophomore effort isn’t doing much better. Fusion Garage hasn’t even begun selling the Grid10 tablet it unveiled at a fake press conference last month, but the former JooJoo maker has already dropped the device’s end user price by as much as 40%. Announced on August 15th, the Grid10 tablet features a 10.1-inch 1366 x 768-pixel display, a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset and the company’s proprietary Grid OS. Fusion Garage announced two versions of the slate during the unveiling: a $499 Wi-Fi version and a $599 model with 3G connectivity. Fast forward to today, and the devices are now just $299 and $399, respectively. There is no word on whether or not early pre-orders will be refunded the difference, and Fusion Garage said the tablet will launch on September 15th.

Will sell decent amount of tablets after the price drop.

Well to be fair FG said that this was the planned price from the beginning, they just had to work things out with the manufacturer before they could announce it at that price.

Also “refunds” for the preorders don’t really matter since you don’t pay until you get it, and they haven’t shipped yet. FG did clarify in their twitter chat though that all preorders would be at the lower price. They also mentioned that they should be announcing retail availability soon, which is good. I’m interested in it but no way I’m going to get one with out playing with it for a bit.

It is the right strategy, all vendors should and will follow, at this juncture, $500 price point is excessive for this category, even for the next iPad.It was an arrogant mistake by the vendors such as XOOM by MOTO, PlayBook by RIM, WebOS by HP, to price themselves equal to the well established iPad. Why would most people consider the others at the same price point, to establish themselves, they have to first prove their product to the market, since they were second to the market.

    Thank You

Everyone is always talking about innovation and here it is.  So why all the negative comments?

At least these people are trying something different.  If they get noticed, even without sales, maybe some hardware player will pick them up.

I bet app developers are stoked about being able to create gridos apps.  What a fucking joke.

Although I dont think they are going to grab any significant amount of market share, I do believe they have a unique product that they can call there own. Even if they company disappears after this attempt I can tell you now that some of their UI ideas will get tweaked and added into other mobile UI’s.

Their best bet is to stop letting the owner do any more presentations.
