Sprint delays BlackBerry Curve launch for reasons unknown

mobile

Sprint announced late Thursday evening that it has pushed back the launch of RIM’s newest Curve, the BlackBerry Curve 9350, until some time in October. The carrier said previously that it would release the Curve 9350 on September 9th starting at $49.99 on contract. Sprint gave no reason for the delay, citing only “unexpected circumstances” in its statement on the matter. RIM’s Curve series of smartphones has been crucial to the Waterloo, Ontario-based vendor’s success to date. Offering RIM’s full suite of popular PIM services in an affordable package, Curve handsets are common choices for prepaid customers and enterprise customers making fleet purchases. BGR exclusively revealed RIM’s new Curve back in January and the handset was thought to be slated for a release earlier this year, suggesting this might not be the first time its release is being delayed. Sprint’s full statement follows below.

Due to unexpected circumstances, Sprint shifted the launch of the BlackBerry® Curve™ 9350 smartphone beyond the planned Sept. 9 availability date. It will now go on sale in October with a specific availability date shared at a later time.

The next generation of Research In Motion’s (RIM) popular BlackBerry Curve series of smartphones, BlackBerry Curve 9350, offers the latest BlackBerry operating system – BlackBerry® 7. It is a fast, affordable, easy-to-use, full-featured and socially connected smartphone.

Rather have the Bold it’s better.

I know the reason. It don’t work right.

  • Anonymous

The reason? No one wants to type on a physical keyboard. RIM will be dead in two years.  true story™©®

      • The Thrasher

Instead of commenting on tech-websites (that you clearly don’t understand), maybe you should sign up for an “english-comprehension” course, so you can use better grammar + have a better understanding of what your reading. Just a suggestion!

      • Applesucksfatties

Judging by your comments, you know slightly more about tech stuff than my grandma.  And if you are questioning my comprehension and grammar skills, maybe you should review my recent response to your comments on the RIM’s new BackBerry phones article posted yesterday.  Your comments = FAIL

RIM’s new BlackBerry phones faring well with enterprise, consumer adoption slow

    • Applesucksfatties

Just like you do.. in the back alley behind your local Walmart.

“Hey Jeb, I get off from my shift in 10 minutes.  Meet me in the back alley.” said Max, the Walmart greeter, to the overweight toothless guy wearing flannel that always comes into his Walmart.  “I’ll give you the Maxi special, which includes a buff and a polish, for only $10″

      • Peter Goesinya

        Hawt story broh.

      • Yuk

There you go again….. wash your mouth out young man.

      • Applesucksfatties

Sure grandma.   Do you have any of those hard candies you always used to give out to the neighbor kids?

      • The Thrasher

AppleSucks- you must really have a shitty job and hate your life.

All you do is talk about people’s burger-flipping jobs, cheeseburgers, fat asses.. And working the weekends.

You are one sorry son of a bitch!

      • Applesucksfatties

Speaking of being a sorry SOB… aren’t you the guy out here trolling RIM articles because you have nothing better to do?  Now get lost cyberstalker….

Thats the same reason I won’t release your mom

  • FTW

Maybe its because the Bold is selling better than they expected and want to keep riding that wave………Nobody really wants the curve, the bold is the best way to go

    • Yuk

That’s actually possible. Nothing wrong with the Curve per se but the pricing is stupid compared to the Bold. If a consumer wants a Blackberry, and Sprint is more consumer focus, they’d just take the Bold. At current price point this Curve is a non-starter?  Maybe unlike RIM someone at Sprint commercial department spotted that!!!

Sorry to disappoint, but most dullard consumers don’t want to pay more than $100 for a new phone…hence the reason for the cheap/free crapDroid phones flying off the shelf.  The $49.99 price for the Curve is right where is should be as cost conscious people aren’t going to spend $199-$299 for a high end phone…

  • Peter Goesinya

The new bold is sexy. Anyone who has/likes to use blackberry should invest.

    Oh snap… iPhone 5

“To prepare for the introduction, Sprint has postponed the September
debut of a rival smartphones that uses fourth- generation, or 4G,
wireless technology, said one person familiar with the situation.” Bloomberg

Sprint’s getting their iPhone, so forget all the other clones! I don’t blame them, nothing sells like the iPhone! It’s not rocket-science. Keep stocking what sells (iPhones), get rid of what is collecting dust on the those same shelves (BB’s & Android phones). Plus, Sprint’s been getting hammered exclusively selling BB’s & DROID phones. They can finally see the light! lol

    • Applesucksfatties

Hey SB…  are you an Apple troll or is it just my imagination?  Why don’t you go stare at pictures of Steve Jobs while you “dream” about your i5… er i4G… er i3G+… er iPod touch with a cell radio.

  • OrangeSVTguy

Sell it now before the iPhone comes to Sprint. Blackberry what?

  • http://twitter.com/SeanKelleher Sean Kelleher

The Bold 9930 is sold out on Sprint’s website… If BlackBerry fans are that eager to get a new BlackBerry, Sprint probably wants them to all buy the Bold for $249 instead of the Curve for whatever lower price point. It’s just business.

I have waited a long time for this moment, my little green friend.
