Microsoft to demo Windows 8 on a Samsung tablet next week

Tablets

Microsoft Windows president Steven Sinofsky will unveil the company’s latest Windows 8 operating system running on a tablet during Microsoft’s BUILD conference in California next week, Reuters reported on Thursday. According to Korea Economic Daily, the reference model device will be manufactured by Samsung. “Investors are hungry to see how [Microsoft is] going to join where the market’s going,” HighMark Capital Management portfolio manager Todd Lowenstein told Reuters. “They’ve been lagging and they need to catch up and surpass what’s going on, to demonstrate they truly are an innovative company.” It isn’t the first time Microsoft will demo the operating system on a tablet. During the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference in July, the Redmond-based firm briefly showed a concept tablet running the new OS. We hope Microsoft allows conference attendees to go hands-on and take a closer look at the device this time around. The BUILD conference kicks off on September 13th.

How/Why would they? Microsoft is doing what Apple should have done. If Windows 8 isn’t just a wp7 clone then it will destroy the iPad. The iPad would be a million times better if it actually ran OS X.

What your comment really said: “I still don’t understand why the iPad is so popular but, if MS releases a Windows tablet again, it won’t be a failure like it was before.”

I doubt you’ll understand why the iPad is so popular until it destroys the Windows monopoly. Maybe not even then.

I am with you on that.  I have a Xoom and there is still a lot I can’t don on Honeycomb that I want to.  A Windows 8 tablet sounds awesome to me!

That means you can have a slow, bloated OS on all your devices.  It will be sweet when you have 3 or 4 devices with the BSOD.  Have fun with that.

Does that not describe android os as well? Ah ha

Beat me to it.  Now you know why Android needs dual processors to run apps.

At least it is better than a grid of icons which is 5 years old, if you can call that a design that is.

      • Anonymous

Yes your right there’s no Grid of icons on android phones. Lol

      • Michael Scrip

“At least it is better than a grid of icons which is 5 years old, if you can call that a design that is.”

And after they pic the app from that “grid of icons” they OPEN the app and start using it.

How much time can you really spend re-arranging Android widgets?

Now this is what I’ve been waiting on. I hope it releases soon, woohoo!

    • http://twitter.com/computer_tweets KW

Just like Apple releasing a new operating system every two years?
