Apple sings familiar tune, seeks to ban Samsung device sales in Japan

In a move that will undoubtedly shock no one, Apple has filed a new complaint against Samsung in Japan alleging that multiple Samsung devices infringe on its patents. The Cupertino-based patent crusader is seeking to ban sales of Samsung’s GALAXY S and GALAXY S II lines of smartphones, as well as its original GALAXY Tab Android tablet, Reuters reports. The report does not mention the GALAXY Tab 10.1, which is often the target of Apple’s patent complaints in other regions. The first hearing in the case took place on Wednesday, and a spokesman for the Tokyo District Court where the complaint was filed declined to comment.

        I guess you serve on Apples board. You seem pretty sure about what you said. Don’t believe every opinion you read on the Internet. If they agree to royalties, which they should’ve done in the first place, this will all go away. You and everyone knows that the iPhone changed everything bthey were granted patents that should be respected. All this Apple hate is silly. You might still be using blackberry one windows mobile with crappy browsers if it weren’t for apple.

        In the Dutch court, the only thing that they were found guilty of infringing upon was the way that Apple designed their gallery app. Other than that (and please, correct me if I’m wrong), they haven’t been found guilty of infringing on anything else.

        Nonetheless, Apple is apparently going to sue Samsung in every country that has patent laws. Meanwhile, we’ve got HTC jumping into this clusterfuck from the other end. I want them all to stop and just focus on making the best phones. If the best thing that Samsung can do is copy what you’ve got, then just say so. I’m an unabashed Android fanboy, but the elements that they cribbed are clear. We can see it.

        So just… keep on moving up. When your opponent’s best today is what you finished yesterday, then you’re always going to be considered better. So stop wasting money trying to get the courts to prove you’re better, and go keep being better, because there are absolutely things that Apple is the best in the business at. Litigation should not be one of them.

        I don’t like all this litigation either.  I just think that if you are going to use tech another company owns and has patented you should license them.  Same as how they all license wifi, bluetooth, 3G, LTE, etc…  Why not license from Apple?  I would sue if my start up company created the next big thing and all the big dogs, like MS, Apple, and google copied my innovation and priced me out of the market without even paying a licensing fee.  How am I going to pay my employees, feed my family, repay the huge loans I took out for R&D?  Patents exist to drive innovation.  If an inventor cannot have his work protected by patents they will not invent.  Some banks and venture capitalists won’t even invest in your next big thing if you don’t have a patent for it.  The money is in the patent. Without patents the world would be in a different place technologically.

    You don’t want to start a lawsuit war with apple, their income is much more disposable for frivolous things like so. They won’t win, this is just a more expensive way off saying get off our nuts already. Nobody likes to be tied up in court, so if you want to copy and piss off apple they’ll gladly waste your time and resources, they’ve got a couple bucks to spare. It’s well known the iPhone 5 will be the splash of the year, it’s a status symbol. iPhone for personal, blackberry for work coming from a DC native that frequents NYC, Boston, Chicago, LA and Miami.

      HTC, Samsung, Google and some of the other Android players are no slouches themselves and don’t have to worry about money.  

      Apple is just over zealous with suing these days, sure they may have a valid point here and there, but it seems like they are scared with how quickly Android has grabbed a foot hold and they are doing anything they can to try to slow it down.

      While Apple have money, they do not have patents (they get order of magnitude fewer patents than the likes of Microsoft and Samsung). I am not sure money is enough in this case.

    Apple is spending its money on Legal and not innovation and it’s showing! Mac OS X Lion is a lipstick update to Leopard and Snow Leopard.

    Karma strikes back twice as hard and hopefully Apple loses a few cases and a lot of money in the process!

      Because they want Apple’s money for screens and chips. Samsung knows that a lot of it’s competitors in those markets have trouble providing quality components at the yelds and prices that Apple wants. LG and TSMC have a bit of trouble in those exact categories – thogh i’m not sure if it is the Apple components they manufacture that have problems. Apple would gladly run Samsung’s mobile business into the ground then turn around and finance their chip and screen divisions.

    Apple takes ideas from other companies as well (just like pretty much every company)… The only thing that is similar is the fact that the Samsung devices are rectangular and the application icons are tiled (which Apple wasn’t the first to do)…. Other than that the devices are completely different. Apple didn’t invent the rectangle or the idea of tiled icons, they should worry more about innovating themselves rather than trying to eliminate their competition.

    I would love to see google, htc, samsung et all all turn around and sue apple and block the imports of their iSUCK devices into most countries.  Even Better, i would love to see Samsung stop supply apple with anything for their ipads and force them to find someone else and go through all the horrible screen issues they already went through.

    Apple is horrible.  I still can’t believe they modified the images for the samsung phones and tablets to make them the same size as their iphone and ipad to convince the judge that they looked the same.

    I hate apple more now then ever.

    Apple sucks. It is obvious that they only want their products on store shelves, so people will have no choice but to make their bank account fatter. Apple is scared of Android. Period. Android is control of market share worldwide. Apple is still making money, but with Android continuing to grow, what they are making is getting less. They don’t like that. I agree that they need to protect their intellectual property, but the way they are doing it is all wrong. They want the courts to ban the product all together. They do not want to ask royalties, or reach an agreement. No, they just don’t want that product to see the light of day. This is not a spirit of fairness and competition. They should stop suing and make innovative products.

    The Koreans and Japanese must be laughing their ass off right now. There’s no way the Japanese court would ban their fellow neighbor’s products just because some American company is pissed off at the neighbor.
