First image taken with iPhone 5′s 8-megapixel camera possibly uncovered

The image above, which shows a plate of sushi accompanied by a rather bland looking avocado roll, is reportedly the first publicly-posted image captured by the upcoming iPhone 5′s new 8-megapixel camera. Pocketnow claims to have found the image hosted somewhere on the web, though it neglects to specify its source. Previous images in the blog’s “test photo” series, of which this post is a part, typically source images from Flickr or Picasa. In this case, the image’s EXIF data indicates that it was captured by an iPhone 4 but the rest of the data suggests that a different device was used. “Although the image has been cropped to 2235×2291 (5.12 megapixels), the original picture was a much larger 3264×2448 — or just shy of eight megapixels,” the blog says. “What’s more, the lens was recorded as a 4.3mm f/2.4, which is closer to that of a point-and-shoot than the iPhone 4′s actual 3.85mm f/2.8.” Apple’s iPhone 5 is expected to launch next month alongside an updated iPhone 4.

    Oh wow!  8mp camera?

Welcome to 18 months ago.  Way to make the “next big thing” with almost two-year-old technology.

Ya it’s funny that the 5 mp camera on the iPhone 4 takes way better pictures than a phone with a 8 or 10 mp camera. Weird huh

        Not even close, kid.

As someone who works demoing these phones every day, I can tell you that that is simply untrue.  If you ever come out of your iSheep pen, take a look at the HTC Thunderbolt and Incredible II, the Droid X and X2, or the Samsung Charge.  They make the iPhone’s camera look like a child’s toy.

And I’m no fanboi.  I like the iPhone just fine and have no qualms about selling them.. but trying to claim that the camera is superior is just plain foolish.

First of all I am over 45 years old so I don’t know who you’re calling a f*cking kid. Second I owned a evo and incredible and they both sucked. You’re one of these morons that think the higher the megapixels the better the camera is. I know what is good for me. Not what is good for you and the other fandroids on here. And you call me a isheep. You f*cking morons are just as bad with your android bullshit.

You sound like a child, I guess that’s where the assumption came from.

And no, I’m not an fandroid.  I work for a wireless retailer and play with these phones all day.  The iPhone has its strengths, but the camera is not one of them.  Sure, it was a year and a half ago when it was released, but it’s old news by now.

The Thunderbolts we carry in store regularly produce better photos than the picture in this article.  It has nothing to do with the megapixel count, actually.  It has to do with sensor size and macroing, both of which are far superior in many Android devices.  If you bothered educating yourself instead of just flinging insults and regurgitating what Apple’s marketing department says, you might have a concept of how technology actually works.  Kid.

We know this is fake because the  first iphone 5 picture should have been an apple employee passed out at a bar.

    I don’t care

This report seems a bit fishy…

What’s so great bout taking a picture?

Can’t the meta data in an image be changed very easily? Couldn’t I make this same picture in a matter of minutes and upload it and say it came from an engineer in the moon. And the reflection you see is my sweet jet pack.
