HTC Jetstream 4G speeds shown off on live AT&T LTE network [video]

Exclusive

BGR exclusively reported last week that AT&T’s 4G LTE network has gone live in both Chicago and Atlanta, and at that time it was unclear if LTE was only available intermittently for testing or if the network had been soft-launched. Here we are a week later and the network is still live in both of these markets — and in the Dallas/Forth Worth area as well as in Houston, BGR has learned — so it is likely safe to say the latter is the case. More importantly in light of the fact that Labor Day is behind us and AT&T has been touting a summer launch for months, the carrier should make the launches official any day now. Considering AT&T’s network was recently ranked worst in the nation by J.D. Power, 4G LTE service can’t come soon enough. In the meantime, however, BGR was sent a video of AT&T’s new $700 Jetstream tablet running on the carrier’s LTE network in Chicago. A speed test shows that downloads peaked at over 22Mbps while upload speeds climbed above 6Mbps. AT&T’s previous-generation fourth-generation HSPA+ network is hardly lacking in the speed department, but it looks like LTE will top its performance and then some. A video showcasing a live test of AT&T’s 4G LTE speeds on the HTC Jetstream follows below.

$700 is still too much, isn’t it? I could understand if this was the price w/o a 2 year service agreement, but $700 + 2 year agreement seems to be above and beyond.

,,wow,. I just got a $829.99 iPad2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HDTV for only $251.92, they are both coming with USPS tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prîces at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37″ HDTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for.

,,wow,. I don’t care. And I speak for everyone else here, too.

        Fuckoff

i’ve yet to see a reason as to WHY i would need those sort of speeds.

Exactly.  At home, yes.  On a mobile device, not so much.

If you need to download an attachment or install an app quickly or need to look up some thing in a pinch. Why wouldn’t you want it fast? Or heck, even wifi tether. It’s great for business travelers who aren’t always “at home”.

There isn’t a reason why we have cars or airplanes or cell phones or computers, now is there? Or is there? Because I’m pretty sure people were able to survive before those were invented. Maybe you need to find some thing else to complain about!

I’m seeing 50mbps in NYC metro on a daily basis on a loaded Verizon LTE network. http://i.imgur.com/2IrbV.png
NYC has a few hundred thousand subscribers using their 700Mhz LTE band 13.

22mbps on a completely empty AT&T LTE network is nothing to brag about, sadly…

    • Lechero

      theyre not, others are

More importantly in light of the fact that the carrier has now missed its target of launching LTE in its first few markets this summer

Color me confused. Perhaps I’m reading this incorrectly, but the article states that AT&T’s LTE network is up and running in Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas and Houston, yet they’ve missed their target?  The last day of summer isn’t for another 2+ weeks (September 21).

I’m impressed AT&T didn’t think you had it in you.

More Lies ….. my sources tell me this baby was hooked up to a corporate T-1 server connection™®©

    • TrivialTweeter

@PAPINYC:disqus If that were the case, he’d be capped at 1.544Mbps bandwidth. The maximum data a T1 line can handle.

      • Scott Duffy

Yep! And it’s sad my work still uses it… It’s more sad that I have a faster connection at my house!

I love how everyone thinks T1 connections are hot shit.  You’re average smart phone has a faster connection.  Maybe not as reliable, but way faster.

Does nobody other than me see an issue here?  This guy is speedtesting with this tablet on his lap with one hand, recording it with his cell phone with the other AND HE’S DRIVING.  You can clearly hear him accelerate…. holy… effing… shipoopi.

    • kuroma

You’re right…This dumbass is testing the device while driving. Wow…simply amazing.

      • Carlos

        Simply dumb.

Maybe he was trying to add sound effects to the speedometer on the screen.

I’ve been getting between 29 and 46Mbps down and 11 Mbps up using the Jetstream in the Dallas metroplex.

cool lets see some screenshots or videos

      here is Verizon’s LTE

  • Marcello

Wow, that’s better than my U-Verse connection (it’s upload speeds sucks).

    ok

  • ravens410

If you look in the background, it clearly looks like this test is taking place in Washington, DC. Not Chicago.

    • Anonymous

      i see washington dc also

I’m surprised none of my fellow Goofans (aka Apple Haters) has said anything. But it’s obvious to me that the reason for the perornance is Android. I’ve seen Android phones pull down data at over 20MB in edge networks, simply because of the power of openness and freedom!

  • Chris

Cool. I thought I would regret switching to Verizon once AT&T’s LTE launched here because I thought AT&T would be must faster than Verizon, just like their 3G is. But that’s not the case. :]

  • Booboolala2000

Nice to see it is comparable to vzw. Considering I am on vzw and would like an option when my contract is up. Left cingulair about two months before the merger. Glad I did because my data with vzw has been spot on. But with at&t using lte, it could be interesting.

great, now lets get that ping down below 20.

  • http://twitter.com/NICKVALENTIN0 Nick Valentino

Better be careful.  Do too many of those 22Mbps speedtests and you’ll blow through your 4GB capped plan in 3 minutes. LOL

  • Anonymous

OK, you have to admit dude that is like totally impressive.

Get to the finish line that much quicker.  All of these faster networks are kind useless considering the short length choke collars the carriers have imposed.  Very small caps prevent these networks from being really useful.
