iPhone 5 manufacturing kicks off without iOS 5, report claims

Apple’s manufacturing partners have reportedly begun assembling the iPhone 5 according to a new report from Macotakara, which has a mixed track record. The report follows news from this morning that German Apple carrier partner Deutsche Telekom has already begun pre-sales of the next-generation Apple smartphone. Foxconn, which will supposedly handle roughly 85% of iPhone 5 production, and Pegatron, which has picked up a contract for the remaining 15%, are said to have ramped up assembly ahead of Apple’s official announcement of the device, which is expected as soon as next week. Citing information from an anonymous source, the report also notes that finished devices are not yet being packaged, as the release build of iOS 5 has not yet been finalized.

    I don’t understand what’s taking so damn long with both the new iPhone and iOS 5. I jumped ship because my 3GS contract was up and there was no modern smartphone available from Apple.

      Because the iPhone 5, iOS 5, iMessages, and iCloud are all going to be released at the same time. The last time they released so much hardware and software in such a short period of time was the iPhone 3G and MobileMe launch, which if you don’t remember, was horribly handled by Apple.

      What??? Apple re-redfined “modern” smartphones. If it wasn’t for them, everyone would still think Blackberry devices were the hotteset s*** ever.

      In regards to the delay, it’s because iOS 5 still isn’t ready yet. We all know Apple likes to release a finished product.

        With out Apple, touchscreen smartphones would be here slower than usual but they would be here anyways, with or with out Apple’s help.

        LG Prada released a year before iPhone and was a nice touchscreen phone and Android was in the works before that.

        We didn’t need Apple to get where we are, we where accelerated by Apple.

        have you seen Android before iPhone came to the scene? It was an interface similar to Blackberry OS controlled by navigation buttons. It wasn’t until iPhone blew up did they design it to compete.

    I’d like to say the people doing this are stupid, but to be honest I don’t think they are. The fact is that apple will almost definitely make the next iPhone very good and successful half down to the sheer amount of content it already has. If I had the money to upgrade from my iPhone 4 I’d probably do this.

    So let me get this straight.  Reports say Deutsch Telekom is preselling the iphone.  But their sites aren’t.  So clearly they’re not.  Why “REPORT” on something you can confirm is not true by googling DT’s site?
