Intel to bail on MeeGo OS, report claims

mobile

Intel plans to discontinue development of its MeeGo operating system for the time being due to a lack of enthusiasm for the platform, DigiTimes reported on Friday. Citing multiple anonymous industry sources, the report claims Intel will instead focus on “handset platforms to be paired with either Android or Windows Phone in 2012.” Nokia had initially been Intel’s premier partner on the MeeGo platform, but the company recently announced that it was dumping MeeGo in favor of Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform. Nokia did unveil one MeeGo-powered phone this past June — the Nokia N9 — but the Finnish vendor simultaneously confirmed that the N9 would be the first and only MeeGo smartphone Nokia produces. In response to DigiTimes’ claims, Intel commented that it “remains committed to MeeGo and will continue to work with the community to develop and help meet the needs of customers and end users with open source.”

it doesnt matter if there’s a floor on how ultra low power intel chips can go.
how incredibly smart was Intel when they bought an ARM maker…How incredibly dumb was Intel when they let it go right before iPHone gave ARM a shot of Apple juice.

I hope they don’t buy Texas Instruments. I think it’s too late for them to get into the ARM game. As Intel chips go less prominent, they should start looking at how they can retool intel fab plants..for the future. Before you flame me for talking about Intel dying—this is futurity talk, you got to plan for the future, and inevitable lifecycles.

Yeah so did WebOS, but no one wanted to develop for some indie OS with no public interest.

Nobody wants a dying platform.  Samsung has also adamantly denied that they are buying WebOS..

This was predictable. Did anyone really expect Meego to actually succeed?

Yes and it was Intel. LOL

I just got a $829.99 iPad2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HDTV for only $251.92, they are both coming with USPS tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prices at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37″ HDTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for. I use l-k.be/9l

Anyone can get your mom for only $251.92

Intel and its AppUp store efforts are total disaster. I know at least 2 developers who joined that left pissed. Intel is mismanaging the program and many developers are so upset it is unbelievable.
poor management , super poor management

I think this is Bias….they didnt want to show how many people are interested in Meego Os….. Elop thinks this and that but let me tell you the OS is awesome… Disregard what Elop said abt discontinueing Meego OS but Meego is one unique OS…. we cant say what if people demand Meego No one knows. And there’s a lot of pre-orders.
