Labor Day sale pricing hints at slow sell-through for RIM’s top PlayBook tablet

Retail

Retail giant Best Buy is currently offering Research In Motion’s BlackBerry PlayBook tablet at a discount for Labor Day. For a limited time, RIM’s tablet can be had for as little as $449.99 for the 16GB model, a $50 discount. The 32GB and 64GB PlayBook models are both priced at $549.99, affording a $50 discount on the former and a $150 discount on the latter. The steeper discount on RIM’s high-end PlayBook may indicate that Best Buy is having trouble offloading the pricey tablet, which normally retails for $700. RIM announced on its earnings call in June that it had shipped 500,000 PlayBook tablets during the slate’s first partial quarter of availability. Since then, reports have been mixed; while many analysts have said RIM’s tablet is not selling well to end users, a major Australian retailer has gone on record with claims of “fantastic” PlayBook sales. Best Buy confirmed to BGR via email that its sale on BlackBerry PlayBook tablets will run through Labor Day, September 5th.

The PlayBook is junk. Period. I wouldn’t pay ANYTHING for one. The HP TouchPad was firesale priced at $99 and it is FAR superior to the RIM CrapBook. The RIM CrapBook should be firesale priced at $49.

        My bad… that was me.

    • Pavel Bure

Obviously those say that the PB is junk are owner wannabees. they’ve never owned one and have only played with one either at the store and trying to act as if they know the entire product within 5 minutes using a friend or acquaintance’s PB.

i bought my 64gb model back on May 1st. Back then the OS version was 1.0.3.xxxx. i cant even remember the number of true OTA updates siince Rim is constantly. Right now, its already at 1.0.7.2942
Huge updates and improvements since the day i bought it. Since QNX is their new flagship OS (starting with the PB) with smartphones next moving away from legacy java, OTA are so consistent unlike those that had for android 2.1, 2.2 and even 3.0 and up. What the time between iOS 3, 4 and now 5?

Did some of you (including BGR) ever consider that a new 4G PB is going to be launched and will be running Tablet OS 2.0? Nope…I guess not

      • Anonymous

We didn’t think that because it is silly. If it was selling well, they would keep the price up, maximize profits and lower the price on the old model when the new one is released.

PB sales are weak. It is junk. As much as you try and justify your purchase, no one want a tablet tied to a smartphone no one wants…

      • Pavel Bure

No one wants a table? Hmmm…I own and run a small I.T. Company and believe or not, I nor any or my employees are BIASED unlike yourself. We service Windows, OSX and host of servers both located and co-located and are getting into smartphone repairs and maintenance.

For some reason, when in my off time, those who are impressed are the ones who see me getting the PB out of my cargo short pockets. “What? that’s a tablet? Can I see it? Then I give them a brief demo of what it does “UNLIKE BestBuy OR BIG RETAIL STORE EMPLOYEES”. If they’re at my house, I just hook it up and play through the HDMI cable direct to my 65″ 1080P 3D plasma TV.

All they can say is “WOW” pure 1080P being recorded and now being played all from my playbook. I’m sure you techies know Azureus Vuze or pretty much called Vuze. Download your latest movie release (every tuesday are new releases – check your local video store website for dates), plug in the provided USB cable to your playbook. DRAG AND DROP, unplug the USB cable and plug in the HDMI and voila! HD movies (if that’s what you downloaded) all from your playbook. NOPE, sorry can’t drag and drop on iPad nor iPad 2. No HDMI then you can at least by the OEM Apple converter attachment.

Since I started to show this thing (PB) I’ve converted 8 (combined iPad and iPad 2) owners as now owning and preferring this as their premiere device and have also indirectly sold (I get a commission) 18 to other clients from my fellow I.T. Business Owner colleague who owns 3 Telus Dealerships.

Those current iPad/IPad 2 clients still have the iPads and have pretty much passed it onto their kids for their surfing/facebooking etc. The parents are now using their PB’s for workhorse multitaking tasks and the fact its so small they can take it anywhere. Those that thought it was too small have changed their minds taking into consideration at what it does, and the thing it does do, it does extremely well.

If that’s just me, a small I.T. Business owner who takes the time (quality tutorial) to show what the PB can do and sell that so far AT FULL RETAIL PRICE, then you obviously have no REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE. Like I said…all you can say is “No wants a tablet tied to a smaprtphone no one wants…”

Tied to a smartphone that no one wants really…Those clients that have a BB then great I quickly show them how to bridge for those who have an iPhone, Android or anyother…I show them how to tether, go to http://www.webmail.xxxxx.xxx You know the webased email that whichever your ISP chooses. Heck GMAIL, HOTMAIL and host of others are accessible just by using normal brower. Hmmm what was it like when you went to family or friends house and asked if you could used their computer to check your email. Guess what…you used the ISP’s webmail address address right?

Really…come here to Vancouver and put your money where your mouth is. You just go with me to my clients and new accounts and while working I’ll bring out my playbook,  If they “diss” it, you’ll get $50 if they “praise” it and want more info in what it does again using no BIAS just putting in front of me and using the internet and checking spread sheets, let alonge doing the video stuff, viewing full websites both in HTML 5 and Flash, heck even some are gamers (which i don’t too much cause I’d rather do it from the comfort of my couch and XBOX 360/Kinect) then you me $100.

Did you know that EA’s DEADSPACE had the best reviews for a tablet game? All of iPad’s FPS doesn’t even compare to PBs FPS EA game. Don’t believe? Try it for yourself it’s called READ WORLD USE not reading up on someone’s negative blog.

EAs DEADSPACE shows the power of PB’s hardward architecture and this is only PB model number 1.

Put your money where your mouth is!

no you are just a RIM hater

      • Applesucksfatties

        speaking of “thoughtful insight”….

      • Anonymous

I guess if you want to bring down the iPad, compare it with the one aspect of the iPad that is universally known as it’s weakest, and ultimately worthless, aspect.

I wish I was there to actually witness you two actually taking pictures and videos with tablets! I would follow you for a bit, recording the same quality video and pics with my phone and just post that over YouTube, LOL.

      • Anonymous

reading your 2 posting here… you basically say RIM can’t sell the things.

That’s worse than saying the PB’s  aren’t selling… it’s that RIM doesn’t know the market!!!!

Not good.  Not good at all.

      • Anonymous

        cool story, bro

      • Real Pavel Bure is smart…..

Wow guy. Let me see. Spend $500 on a 7 inch great picture taking tablet (who uses a tablet to take pictures and movies on a vacation?) or spend $500 on a tablet that has more than EA’s Dead Space 2 for an app? Better yet if i want to use email which should I buy? Cant wait for Apple to come out with Apple bridge so email works with only an iPhone paired to an iPad………..

    • QNX

For everyone is the comments section who thinks BB is dead, or not as good as the competition… you lack intelligence, and you should do humanity a favor and kill yourself.
BlackBerry OS7 Smartphones are the best on the market. The PlayBook is the best tablet ever made. And when QNX comes to BlackBerry Smartphones you will all cry for mercy.  This is what you’re afraid of.

If you disagree, you are wrong.

      • Anonymous

Thanks for your thoughtful insight. Eh?

      • Billy the killer

Dream on QXN. While OS7 might be good, hell it might be great… People are not going to buy it. RIM had their chance, OS7 needed to be released a year ago to compete. The public opinion of RIM is quite obvious- look at their marketshare, continues to drop. People are flocking to the ease of Android and iOS. You walk into Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, TMO, they have 8 Android phones, and 2 BlackBerrys… What do you see people buying????? On top of that the two BB’s they have are the same devices, only newer OS. Same crap as 3 years ago.

RIM needs to adjust their strategy real quick again, or it will be another webOS. OOB

    • Be reasonable

That’s completely unfair. Its worth $99 any day.

    • The Thrasher

I agree dude, the PB is second rate compared to everything else our three. Total junk!

Can’t wait to see what AppleSucks and Reggie DB’s have to say about this..

      • Applesucksfatties

Thank you.  I find it humorous that guys like Max, Scroat, Billy, BringIt, Thrasher, and SBmobile have such a dislike for RIM, yet they are always out on RIM/BlackBerry/PlayBook articles in iBGR leaving their “words of wisdom”.  Newsflash to you turds…..get a hobby!!!

      • Billy the killer

Appleloser- I don’t hate RIM. They just missed the boat. These dumbfuckers decided battery life, low data use, and charging extra for Enterprise was a good gameplan.

Wrong you morons. Why would I pay en extra $10/mo for BES when it’s free on iOS, Android, Win7… WTF are thread Waterloo Wonders thinking.

Oh wait, native apps are coming soon??? Way to late dumbasses. If your coming to market with a pad, bring your best with it.. RIM has failed yet again to do this!

Oh wait, it has flash… Woohoooo big fucking hair deal.

Enjoy your soon to be recycled POS PB!

      • Applesucksfatties

@e4f3316c5004b09f79cee22924eac477:disqus - so you don’t like the PlayBook and think it is a piece of shit…..yet you spend time on iBGR sharing your “wise thoughts” about it.  Honestly dude, 1.  RIM fans don’t give two shits about what you (or any other RIM basher) have to say.  2.  You aren’t going to convert us to your Apple cult.  3.  You seriously need to get a hobby/girlfriend/boyfriend/any friend.

      • Billy the killer

You dodged all my questions again Applefag. Nice one. Go have fun with your Torch and Bold tough guy.

Oh but OS7 will save the day for Waterloo RIM.

        Good luck there.

      • Applesucksfatties

@e4f3316c5004b09f79cee22924eac477:disqus - and you continue to dodge my question about why you are out here posting comments about the PlayBook if you hate it so much.  And try using “fag” in your posts more often…it just amps up the “backwoods hillbilly disphit” tone to them.

      • Billy the killer

AppleDoucher- I don’t dislike the PB, it COULD be great. It’s far from that. Typical RIM, no BES support, no BBM support, and it has to be bridged to get that a shit?!?!?!?

WTF is wrong with that picture?

The only thing RIM has done right, and let’s not include it???

So why don’t you move your lame ass to Canada, go work for those fucks!

      • Anonymous

one of the benefits of the Playbook is the bridge app, no need for a data plan and you can get email, calendar and bbm anywhere.

now go wash your mouth with soap.

      • Applesucksfatties

@e4f3316c5004b09f79cee22924eac477:disqus - 40 posts bashing RIM/PlayBook and now you “don’t dislike the PlayBook.  It COULD be great”.  What is it Mr. Multiple Personality? Are you a RIM fan or RIM basher?

Why? So your broke ass can afford it?

      • Be Reasonable

oh yes – we can see that people posting a negative comment about RIM doesn’t affect or upset you at all Mr “ApplesucksFatties”. Like a RIM CEO in a TV interview you remain are calm, collected and reasonable. Perhaps you should be the next VP Mkt? I hear all the others quit and they could use someone as erudite as you. Here’s what you’ve got to beat…..

      • Billy the killer

Yes Be Reasonable I agree. All Applesux does it complain about why Apple is so awful.

Answer me this Applesux, if Apple is so bad, why does it dominate the market so well? Surely someone making $92k/yr would be able to answer this.

      • Applesucksfatties

@e4f3316c5004b09f79cee22924eac477:disqus - are you dumb or do you just lack reading comprehension skills?  1.  I’m not out on Apple articles posting numerous articles talking shit like you repeatedly do on RIM articles…. and if I remember correctly, this is a PlayBook article and you started posting shit on my comments  2.  I already answered your question why Apple is so successful..  among other things, it is CUSTOMER PERCEPTION…aka creating iSheep.  Try to follow along simpleton so I don’t have to keep repeating myself.

still not worth the money. poor RIM. they should pull a HP and sell for $99 lmao

      • Applesucksfatties

your mom was proud of me last night…now get lost.

      • Billy the killer

Sounds to me like Applesux has some serious insecurities about his life choices.
        1) He’s likes to talk about his burgers & fries job. Can you make $92,000/yr working at. mcdumpsters??
        2) He likes penis. Last time he was asking BringIt for his penis.
        3) All he can talk about is how bad apple is, and how great RIM is. Is RIM great anymore?

I think Applesux needs to seek medical attention.

      • Applesucksfatties

@e4f3316c5004b09f79cee22924eac477:disqus - sure buddy.  Reading comprehension isn’t your strong suit…which is probably the reason why you work at a job paying $7.25 an hour.

        1.  my comments about McDonalds were directed at you because reqding comprehension obviously isn’t your strong suit…and probably why you can’t do better than a $7.25 an hour job flipping burgers.

        2. This comment coming from the guy that has used the words “fag” and “homo” in at least 9 out of every 10 posts.

        3. Again, your reading comprehension skills are your downfall because I’m not out on Apple articles talking shit.

        4.  The only person needing medical attention is you for you multiple personality disorder issues.  Do you like the PlayBook or do you not?  Are you Billy the Killer, Billy767, or Thrasher?

  • 1eyebandit

How is $50 off a steep discount? Every week there are tons of products at Best Buy will deals of $50 or more for high end products over $500.

    • Zukidrvr

Yes, a holiday sale is never an indication of “sell through.” Where does BGR get this idea? RIM bashing again.

Kenmore washing machines are on sale at Sears. They must be failing in the marketplace. Get one fast before they go out of business. The Motorola Citrus is free at Verizon Wireless. They must be dumping them. The grocery store is having a sale on bread. It must be inedible.

      Sheesh!

      • Anonymous

agreed to a point,  Your example sucks.

However, Kenmore washers sell only at sears.  sears has lots of products to sell.   Loss Leading with your own brand is normal.  People _NEED_ washers. and when one breaks you want to be ‘top of mind.’

Loss leading with a supplier’s brand usually means clear the decks… or the carry cost is exceeding the potential sales.

There is nothing in the near future that indicates that PB is EOL for clearing the decks, hence it’s an inventory reduction move, or a way to sell BB warranties.  Either way, Playbooks aren’t ‘selling themselves’ on capabilities alone.

That said, $50 $150 off.   It’s a BB marketing thingee.  If they were 1/2 price… That would mean something severe for PB/RIM.

    • Anonymous

      idiot

  • greatness10

clearly you guys don’t know what your talking about. I have both tablets. Playbook purchased at full price, touchpad at firesale. While both are great functioning tablets, the playbook is hands down the better of the two. And what’s even more important to note here…both of these tablets are FAR better than the ipad. You can’t do squat with that thing. Anyone who says multitasking isn’t important on a tablet or smartphone is an idiot. I switch between 5-6 different things at any given time using my playbook or touchpad. Try doing that with an ipad and see how fast you get frustrated going from a product that can do so many things, to a product that can basically just run apps. Other than that, my ipad is a paper weight.

    • Anonymous

What 5 things are you switching between on either plaform? I routinely switch between 5 or 6 things on my iPad because it actually has more then 3 programs..

Couple of thoughts: 1. You need to get a life.:). 2. The vast majority of people (I.e., the market) don’t behave like you, so it doesn’t matter…

      • BeAnAdult

        Nice!!! I Love it man

      • BeAnAdult

Sorry Guy, but that was a dumb comment.

  • Anonymous

If you weren’t interested in an iPad or Android tablet, you were deciding between this or a TouchPad.  IMO the $99 TouchPad and HP’s commitment to dump more on the market sort of kills any short term interest that was left for the PlayBook.

  • The Heavy

Tablet will not sell well unless it cost $99.  If it ever cost that low, everyone will want one!

  • Anonymous

Sales happen all the time, especially on Labor Day weekend!  Could they be doing this to spark slow sales, yes.  But that doesn’t mean sales are slow at this point.  Also, who in their right mind would buy anything but a $99 TouchPad right now.  200,000-400,000 tablets sold at $99, no one wants to pay $499 for anything right now.

  • Anonymous

    I”ll wait for the $ 99. deal

      • Applesucksfatties

p.s. Grow up! By using the words “fag”, “faggot”, “retard”, and “queer”, you really show others that either your intelligence level is that of a 12 year old boy….or that you are some backwoods moron.

      • Billy the thrasher

Applecart- You said If we hate RIM products so bad don’t buy them.

I am like the majority of people, I DON’T BUY THEIR GARBAGE. RIM hasn’t release anything innovative since 2007, about the time RIM released your 9000. Nice phone dude, try and create a wifi hotspot with that Bold 9000. Try and load some Google contacts with your 9000, try and load a MS EAS account on your 9000.

Sure OS7 will save the day.

Dumbfuck! Never heard anyone so stupid who (claims) to make $92k/yr.

      • Applesucksfatties

@e4f3316c5004b09f79cee22924eac477:disqus so if you don’t like RIM, and you don’t buy their products….why are you out here bashing them and starting shit with people who do like them?  Does it make you feel better about your pathetic life?  Do you think it makes your iToy any cooler?   Get a life dude…. and go beat it to the picts of Steve Jobs you have hanging up on your wall.

ps  My Bold 9000 works great (other than memory space issues)….but I can’t wait to upgrade to the 9900 and then to a QNX phone.  Why do I need a wifi hotspot when 1.  I’m always around a wifi signal at work or at home….and 2.  My PlayBook bridges to my 9000?

      • Billy the killer

AppleShitForBrain- Wifi hotspots and active exchange are what people want on their phones you fuckhead. And you think iOS is locked down? RIM is very limited.. Oh but wait, they have 330 apps on their app store… And yeah OS7 will save them.

It’s a sinking ship, stick with them. Your a loser, and so is RIM.

      • Applesucksfatties

@e4f3316c5004b09f79cee22924eac477:disqus  a.  last time I checked, the 9900/9930 has a mobile hotspot feature AND NFC.  b. I’m around wifi all day and could care less about mobile hotspot (it is just another feature that carriers have an excuse to bill people for).
        c.  yeah, RIM is so locked down that their products need to be sync’d to iTunes to download OS updates…..er nevermind.
        d.  BB7 won’t save RIM…but it is a cork in the leaky boat until they can get the QNX phones to market.  I agree that management screwed the pooch when they stopped working on handsets to focus on the PlayBook.
        e.  I’m sure this is your multiple personalities coming out again, but you call RIM a loser below…but in other posts, you say that you aren’t a RIM basher.  Which is it Billy767, Billy the Killer, Thrasher, Bring It…and whatever other names you use on iBGR?

      • Billy the killer

Hey dumbfuck, you still haven’t made one good point of my anyone should buy this PB. It’s like HP, major pile of worthless shit. It will be half price in no time.

        Get ready for RIM liquidation!

        BK

      • Applesucksfatties

Wise words spoken from someone that knows alot about “Big piles of worthless shit”.

ps  How do you like being chained to iTunes?  I hate the fact that I can download OS updates or new apps prettymuch anywhere.   Heck, you could probably even download apps in the comfort of your trailer (assuming there is enough left over from the $500 you take home every two weeks to afford the internet).

      • Billy the killer

Your quite the genius yourself there Applefag. Have you seen the news latly? Android and iOS now are 70% of the market. You Waterloo douche bags continue to decline, now to 20%.

But oh yeah Apple really sucks don’t they? Wow appears their sales number speak volumes. Unlike your little RIM BB homosexuals.

        Nice try again fuckface.

      • Applesucksfatties

geez biily, I’m surprised you can read, much less regurgitate facts from an iBGR article you read.  Good for you… I see Hooked in Phonics is working.

What I find most funny about your attempted slams of RIM is that market share has nothing to do with the quality of the product.  Look at the iPad for example, it is just a big iPod Touch…yet millions of you iSheep flock out to get the latest iPod Touch Large….  hence the bloated market share.

When you read the iBGR article on how the PlayBook was the best tablet, did you attempt to commit suicide?  If so, I’m disappointed that you failed.

      • Billy the killer

AppleJackAss- The facts are simple. Business 101- Great products = greats sales & marketshare.

If your gay little Playbook was great, wouldn’t the sales be great??? Wouldn’t the marketshare be great?

Fuck no- It’s a POS, and that’s why it’s adoption rate is to shitty. You didn’t see people lined up 3 days prior to buy this POS did you?

Six months later the iPad2 finally has some decent stock. Never heard the PB being out of stock.

Face the music assmunch- PB is a weak, and won’t make the cut. Just like you- FAIL!!

      • Applesucksfatties

Hey BillyButtF*ck – I don’t think you’d know Business 101 if it took a bite out of your overpenetrated rectum.  In a perfect world, yes, quality = sales/market share…but we aren’t in a perfect world and consumer PERCEPTION drives sales just as much as (if not more than) product quality.  Fortunately for Apple, they are great at turning dullards like you into iSheep…er influencing customer perception of their products.  Again, it is fine if you want to drool all over your oversized iPod Touch… but I’ll take the tablet that runs a robust OS, has Flash, and doesn’t have to be sync’d to iTunes to download any apps or OS updates.

      • Billy the killer

Looks like Applefag again hasn’t caught the latest news. It’s called iOS 5 Mr.$92k/yr.

Wireless OS updates, doesn’t have to be synced to a PC again. So what if it doesn’t have flash, most of the sites are adjusting to HTML5 anyways.

If this PB was so great, then why is it already being discounted?? BRG said it was the best tablet ever, it very well COULD be Applefaggott. The reviews about Win7 Mobile are the same- but is anyone buying it??? Not very quickly. If RIM thinks they can take the MS approach to ‘slow ramp up’ they’re fucked! RIM cannot have another failure, they’re doomed, fucked, screwed.

Draw any parallels to your life?

      • Applesucksfatties

iOS5 huh?  They gonna start adding some of the basic functionality to the iToys that RIM products have had for years?  Cut n paste? OTA updates?

      • Applesucksfatties

@e4f3316c5004b09f79cee22924eac477:disqus -so retailers aren’t allowed to temporarily drop the price of a product to help spur sales?  Ever heard of Back To School shopping? My guess is that retailers are trying to increase sales of the PlayBook while also clearing out inventory for the 4G PlayBooks that are being released soon.
Billy…you seriously need to give it a rest.  You come out on two PlayBook posts and start bashing me..  classic definition of a troll.  My wife isn’t fat, I’m not unemployed…but I’m not a CEO, I’m not gay (your most famous line), and I don’t go out trolling Apple articles to start shit like you do.  I like RIM products (which last time I checked wasn’t a crime) as they suit all my needs.  If you want to use an Apple or Android product fine…  if you want to hate RIM fine…just cut the childish troll bullshit.

      • Billy767

Me the troll? Your the fuckstick who keeps posting the same lame ass bullshit on every article here. If BGR hates RIM so much, then why the fuck are you here. If they are so anti-RIM then GTFO!! Everyone here hates you and your negative bullshit.

I am sure your unemployed life sucks, all you think about is burgers & fries.. Go get a job at RIM if your so fucking smart!!

      • Applesucksfatties

@e4f3316c5004b09f79cee22924eac477:disqus ,@7ece3d7bd96f97aff009e0523ecc2e16:disqus - aka Multiple Personality Billy, aka Hooked on Phonics Billy, aka Minimum Wage Billy, aka I love the word “fag” Billy –  I find it funny that you are saying I’m negative, considering all of the RIM bashing in your posts..and considering I’m not out on Apple articles actively starting shit like you have been with me. Again..you need to brush up on your reading comprehension so you can get an above minimum wage job soon and get out of your mom’s basement.

ps  speaking of same lame ass bullshit…. how about you say “unemployed” and “fag/homo” a few hundred more times?

      • The Thrasher

Those are some big words coming from a little man.

      • Applesucksfatties

Ass Thrasher….er Billy, you can stop pretending you are two different people.

      • Billy the killer

Okay Mr AppleAsshole licker, if your theory is right about sales/marketshare, then WHY THE FUCK IS NO ONE buying the BB Playbook???

If it’s so much better than everything else out there, then why are the sales so shitty???

Someone claiming to make $92,000+ / yr should be smart enough to explain this.

PS- Anyone who brags about how much money they make, they don’t make that much!

      • Applesucksfatties

people are buying the PlayBook (see my response to you below about PERCEPTION).  Also, the comment about my average household income wasn’t to brag….it was just to shut your cakehole about the “fag” and “unemployment” comments that you repeat over….and over…and over again.  You like Apple, I like RIM….Let’s just agree to disagree…like Yankees and a Red Soxs fans do.

  • Anonymous

I was wondering when there would be some anti RIM rhetoric. BGR, you were overdue..it’s been a week or so since your last RIM eulogy. Newsflash: its a holiday weekend, and there are sales. It does not mean that the sell through rate is low. (Do you even know what that means?)

That’s a great price. IMO the device got way too many negative reviews from the various idrones, with most not even commenting on the device itself, but rather turning the review into a comparison.

For what it does (and it does just about anything) it executes perfectly.

    • Anonymous

Most of the review actually focused on the fact that it required a blackberry phone. There is no price that will make that compelling to many people.

      • Zukidrvr

The PlayBook does not require a BlackBerry smartphone to work. On the other hand, cars require fuel to work. Why on earth would anyone buy a car?

      • Anonymous

You flunked out of middle-school didn’t you?? With that sort of logic you must have trouble just tying your shoe laces! SMH

      • Ken_sanders

Dumb analogy for two reasons. 1. Other tablets don’t require a phone to work. 2. You can buy gas for your car from lots of suppliers… RIM has built a car that requires something other cars don’t, and you only get that from RIM… Cars like that would sell just as poorly as the Playbook…

      • Applesucksfatties

Newsflash.  Native apps will be here soon.

      • The Thrasher

Newsflash fag boy- RIM blows so hard they had to partner with Android..

Oh wait. OS 7 will save the slide!

      • Applesucksfatties

@dfbc9d023d8498c3b4a99b75e24a2793:disqus - They partnered with Google to get the apps that mental midgets like you want.   I have all of the apps I need on my BlackBerry/PlayBook to get what I need done…but I’m also not the average consumer that wants 10 fart apps on my phone/tablet either.

      • Billy the killer

You dumbass Applefag. Your stupider than I thought.

Native apps are coming soon? Not soon enough.

What makes a pad sell Mr $92k/yr???? Answer that…….

Yes Apps make tablets sell. Android tablets have apps, the Apple iPad has apps. What does your BB PB have for apps?? JACK AND SHIT- they missed the boat. Why are they parting with a competitor Goggle???? FOR THE APPS DIPSHIT!!! People will buy the tablet if it has apps.
RIM is trying to save their ass by allowing Android apps.

      • Applesucksfatties

@e4f3316c5004b09f79cee22924eac477:disqus ( aka I’m the guy with the fag obsession) – I don’t disagree the part of the problem of slow PlayBook sales is the fact that dullard consumers like you want 1000 fart apps…of which there aren’t on the PlayBook.   Smart strategic decision by RIM leadership to implement a temporary fix and partner with Google until RIM can build up its developer base.   You have to remember that all Apple products (iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad) are basically all the same…just different sizes.   How hard is it to build a developer base when they only have to build one or two versions of an app for all of Apples products?

      • Billy the killer

Have you ever tried to develop an app tough guy? Apple is easy when it comes to getting on the App Store, Andriod store is cake walk too. MS Marketplace is a little tougher, but RIM is the most difficult to deal with. Those are well known facts, RIM has fucked themselves in this manner.

Developers are going to partner with OS’s that are ‘easy to work with’. RIM in NOT!

      • Applesucksfatties

@e4f3316c5004b09f79cee22924eac477:disqus - I’ve never had a desire to develop mobile apps…although I don’t disagree with your assessment that it is difficult for developers to deal with RIM.

ps  I’m shocked that you can post a valid thought without using the words fag, f*ck, or homo.  To think, you can actually have an adult conversation with someone without calling them a “fag”.

      • Anonymous

most reviewers were false with that statement a blackberry is only needed when you out of wifi range.

    • Joe P.

Retail 101: holiday sales move slow-selling products… Period. Show me one holiday sale for a iPad 2. Just one! Oops, you can’t…

  • dpeagle

bgr being bgr once again! rim has a holiday sale and they are dumping inventory. apple has a holiday sale and its a customer appreciation event. so the discount emails i have been getting from macmall all week, what do we call that. whats the matter bgr can’t find some analyst report from some 3d world country claiming doom and gloom for all but apple. each and every time you do this you lose more credibility.

    • Anonymous

Please post link to the ipad2 sale.

P.S. The only sale at MacMall is on previous generation computers…

  • Anonymous

Read between the lines.  They “shipped 500,000″ units.  Big woop.  Didn’t HP ship 250,000 units of their TouchPad to Best Buy and BB reported they only sold about 20,000 units?  “Shipped” means nothing.

    • Anonymous

RIM shipped 500,000 Playbooks prior to May 31. how many more were shipped from June1 – Aug 31?
Sept 15 will be an interesting earnings call

  • Anonymous

It”s all about price point; all tablets are still too expensive, including crApples.  That thing sells because of it’s branding; put another logo on it and it’s a dog too.

  • JOHN

I’LL GIVE YOU A HUNDRED BUCKS
THAT ALL…, TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT
RIMM YOU MAYBE CAN SALE THEM ON eBAY FOR $200
    I DOUBT IT.

    • Applesucksfatties

I’ll give you a hundred bucks to shut up…and another hundred to figure out how to take caps lock off.

      • Billy the killer

I will give you $500 if you finally get a job.. Hell maybe will hire your RIMJOBBING ass. I will double it if you work for RIM, under your advise they will sink in no time!

      • Applesucksfatties

Hillbilly is back in the hizzzy.   BTW…it is advice…not advise.

      • Applesucksfatties

Billy – judging by your quality thoughts and spelling, you are probably the one in need of a job.  Especially considering someone that is employed would know that 1. today is Sunday (most white collar professionals don’t work on this day) and 2.  it is a holiday weekend.  I am in the midst of enjoying a nice long 4 day weekend while you are schluping fries for your fat girlfriends.  Also, I’m guessing the $500 that you are so kindly (yet erroneously) offering me is probably 2 weeks pay for you….so I wouldn’t feel right taking your money.

      • Billy the killer

Applefaggot- What is it with you and the fry station? You must be speaking from first hand experience.

Not anyone’s fault here you can’t get a job. Sure the economy sucks, but you shouldn’t take it out of us and Apple.

Go stock up on your soon to be paperweight GayBooks, sync them to your outdated 9630, and shut your fucking hole. Take your gay lover Regie with you.

      • Applesucksfatties

Oh yeah..I remember now…  you were the dipshit on the last PlayBook post that made fun of my kids.  Good job you f*cking loser.  Your mom must be real proud!!!

      • Applesucksfatties

sorry to disappoint but I don’t own a 9630…  I’m using a 9000 and am gonna buy a 9900 on AT&T releases them.   As for Reggie… don’t know him or any of the other RIM fans on this site.

      • Billy the killer

Hey fuckface. Like father like son. Just pass your bullshit onto the next generation.

Go fuck yourself asshole. No one around here wants to hear your bullshit anymore.

      • Applesucksfatties

Billy..aka Ass Thrasher..  who is no one?  you and your 7 online personalities?  Isn’t it time for your shift to start?  I bet you’ll be busy schluping fries tonight…with all of the Labor Day travelers.  Now get off mommy’s computer, give that dirty troll a kiss, and head on out to work.  Remember, every hour worked is another $7.75 in your pocket.

      • Billy the killer

There you go again, talking about cheeseburgers and fries. Is that all your unemployed ass can come up with?

        Doesn’t your shift start?

        How’s the fry stand?

Eat some fries with a fat-ass?

Sounds to me like you have a eating disorder, or your a Jenny Craig drop out. Come up with something new asshole.

Tell the wife that Big Balls Billy sends his best too please.

        BK

      • Applesucksfatties

@e4f3316c5004b09f79cee22924eac477:disqus - speaking of coming up with something new…  your posts consist of ”fag, gay, unemployed, fag, retard, asshole, fag, gay, fag, unemployed”.   What is most funny about your broken record comments is that I’m married and my average household income is somewhere in the top 20th percentile, so go ahead keep up the “unemployed” and “fag” comments…
ps.  My wife remembers you as Tiny Pencil Dick Billy….the guy who had a smaller dick than his mom.

      • Applesucksfatties

is that what your loser deadbeat dad did? pass the same bullshit down from one generation to another? he should have pulled out and blew you all over your mom’s trollish face….trust me, the world would have been a better place.

      • Billy the killer

All Applesucks buttfucker can talk about is his unemployed lazy ass uses a POS outdated BB 9000. Wow I bet the speed of that device is amazing, of fuck the resolution is out of his world, go damn the web browser is so innovative.

Whatever $92k/yr. Your so full of shit Mr CEO.

You fail again to see what the real world is about. Then again. You love cheeseburgers and fries, bet you and your fat-ass wife go there daily.

RIM has already taken a dive, they will continue until someone buys them out… Yes another webOS in the making. Maybe you can get a job there and help them out, it will get you off unemployment and fries.

      • Applesucksfatties

And you’ll be the one serving my family the fries…. you hillybilly loser.  Take your own advice and get some new material….  Billy Repeat….and while you are at it, Go F*ck Yourself….

ps   Better work on that reading comprehension too…considering I never said I was a CEO.

  • Anonymous

When it comes to smartphones and tablets, there’s really just two types of people, those that use BlackBerrys and poor people.

    • Whoops

You are so right!!. I couldn’t have put it better myself. Whilst it was quite innovative 5 years ago, for many years now BlackBerry has been the exclusive domain for those with more money than sense…. ;-)

  • Ian

Lol! Typical BGR… It’s a freakin Holiday sale! Not a sign of weakness!!

Oh and those hoping to see a PB for $99, get out of bed and get a job!!

On the other hand, you probably don’t even have a need for a tablet in the first place!! Stick to your home Pentium IV PC and your low-end Android Average-IQ’d phone :p

  • Max

But but but but but but but but but I thought you tech mental midget RImjobbing morons said it was selling well? Waaa hoppen morons??

    • Reggie Dunlop

max=dipshit.  Now get back upstairs and give your mom a bath.

      • The Thrasher

Ghetto Reggie finally showed up. I see you and your gay lover AppleSux are infecting this thread too. Hope RIM don’t take advice from you fucks, they would be OOB in a week.

  • Joe P.

‘Hints at slow sell-through?’ Uhhh, actually, this confirms what any observant person walking into any retailer has known for some time – the Playbooks aren’t moving at all… Resellers don’t discount successful products, EVER… Like HP, RIM has a certified flop on their hands…

A single reseller in Australia claims great sales? C’mon, talk about self-interested promotion! What a joke…

We’ll find out on the15th how many Playbooks have been ‘shipped’ to date, because of course RIM never talks about sales to actual end users… My prediction: less than 1.5 million… What a disaster… Oh, but wait, what about the Playbook 2.0? Hold your breath, it will have native e-mail!!! Wow! What innovation! Sadly, the iPad3 will be the final nail in the coffin on the Playbook… Too little, too late…

  • http://twitter.com/simoncabron Simon Cabron

I like the Playbook, but it’s actually cheaper on amazon anyway. I’d only buy this if it was $250 or less. I can’t imagine paying more than that for something my phone already does, albeit with a smaller screen.

    • Rich

Exactly… sounds like BGR making a fuss about nothing.  Only the 64GB version is cheaper at Best Buy this weekend, and Amazon has them beat on the other two.  Of course though, that sort of story doesn’t drum up pages views.

  • Anonymous

I smell a fire sale coming.

  • Anonymous

hmmm……too bad actually; this tablet has a lot going for it.  No, it’s not an ipad, never was intended to be.  BB has their own audience to play to.  What this tablet really needs is a permanent price reduction.  Then they’d sell to more than the business crowd imo.
