HTC Runnymede 2 to offer Beats Audio, 4.7-inch display

mobile

Earlier this month, HTC purchased a controlling stake in Beats Audio and a new phone called the Runnymede 2 could join the HTC Vigor as one of the first devices to offer Beats technology. According to a leaked spec sheet, the Runnymede 2 is equipped with a huge 4.7-inch WVGA Super LCD screen, a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor, 16GB or 32GB of storage and “SRS surround sound with acoustic performance tuned by Beats.” It is also equipped with an 8-megapixel camera capable of recording 720p HD video, a 1.3-megapixel camera for video chats, Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and support for 14.4Mbps HSDPA networks. According to the leaked specs, the Runnymede 2 will also come with a Beats Solo headset. Those headphones currently retail for about $179, so this certainly won’t be a cheap smartphone package.

wow, I just got a $829.99 iPad2 for only $103.37 and my mom got a $1499.99 HDTV for only $251.92, they are both coming with USPS tomorrow. I would be an idiot to ever pay full retail prices at places like Walmart or Bestbuy. I sold a 37″ HDTV to my boss for $600 that I only paid $78.24 for.

4.7 inches? Too bad no one will buy this. I would have loved to see someone walking with this literal brick against their face.

Both of you couldn’t be more right. Your intellect is rivaled only by your obvious physical attractiveness that was evident from your confident posts.

I agree that 4.7 is too big, but this is the same hardware as the titan and reviews of that have said it has a big screen, but doesn’t feel big in the hand. Kind of how the Infuse has the 4.5 but feels like a 4.3.

You think thats big? You should see the samsung galaxy note, that thing has a 5.4 inch screen I think.

There is a threshold of what fits comfortably into one-handed typing (3.7) and another threshold of what can comfortably be held in one hand as a telephone (4.7? Or 5.0?). I suspect a 4.7 screen will be awesome for everything except typing with one-hand.

If you primarily use it as a telephone, you may prefer the Blackberry smartphone+tablet solution. But. I suspect most people want one device and will appreciate the larger screen and be fine with holding it as a telephone. Just like touchscreen typing. There will be a little time to get used to it. My real question is how does a screen that size effect battery life?

And it doesn’t look like it’s qHD so that means it will be really monstrous!

Im interested to see how will the beats audio is implemented in these phones.  How good can the audio be?  The speakers are still very small and I don’t think most people will even notice much of a difference from a high end android handset or iphone.  Good Luck HTC, cause right now, the beats audio isnt doing much for me

Do you own a pair of beats headphones or are you making an assumption? I own the headphones and with a computers audio card and software they sound incredible. On a smartphone without audio correction they sound like a tin can. The speakers are by no means “tiny” when it comes to sound when the sound is dialed in correctly. I can’t wait for these devices to come out. Some people actually really care about audio quality. Those that are ok with crappy ear buds are not targeted with these products.

If headphones need DSP processing to sound right, they’re broken to shit by design.

      • Estrouse7

That’s completely inaccurate and either shows your ignorance on the topic of sound production or your arrogance looking to make obnoxious product hating comments. You can be a naysayer all you want though. By that argument you are also saying ALL speakers without sound enhancement are “broken to shit” because ALL speakers need sound enhancement to highlight their capacity. Beats headphones have a capacity far greater than cheapo ear buds. Ear buds do not need sound enhancement because they automatically have a poor frequency range thus making the sound from a smartphone a non-issue. Sooo…. stop being a troll to be a troll.

My HP Touchpad comes with dual speakers powered by Beats Audio.  Apple, you hear that?  You only have one speaker at the bottom of the iPad!
