Nokia 703 Windows Phone image leaks; may reveal specs, launch date

mobile

A purported marketing image of an upcoming Nokia Windows Phone has been published by WMPoweruser, and it could confirm several specs surrounding one of Nokia’s first Windows Phone devices. Dubbed the Nokia 703, the specs provided on the image above, if accurate, suggest that we’re looking at a mid-range handset. Some speculate that the device may be Nokia’s “Sea Ray,” though it was believed that the Sea Ray would share the same 3.9-inch AMOLED display as the Nokia N9. Nokia 703 spec highlights apparently include a 3.7-inch 480 x 800-pixel LCD display, a 5-megapixel camera with support for 720p HD video capture, 8GB of storage, 512MB of RAM and dimensions coming in at 112 x 60.8 x 12.3-millimeters. Though the text on the sheet is extremely blurry, it also looks like Nokia intends to launch the device on November 27th, but we’ll likely learn more at Nokia World in October.

    Serious question:

If you honestly want a Windows phone, why (other than this being a stunning phone)?  Does WP7 have any advantage over iOS or Android (now, not possibly in the future)?

It is a serious question — I don’t see the advantage, so I assume I’m ignorant about the benefits of WP7.

You just have to use it to understand.

WP7 is more tied to you. iOS is all about apps and the brand Apple. What does iOS really do that gives it the advantage? I have heard that WP7 is just as fast and less hiccups. I have an Android phone that is terrible. All the customizations do not mean anything if it does not work well. No one can ever help me with it either unless I root the phone. I like the WP7 look and I especially like the people hub. I want to get one as soon as I see what Nokia is going to conjure up. I look at iOS and I wonder why. It is just a grid of icons on a screen, much like what I have used the past 15 years on my computer. Just my thoughts and in all fairness what are the benefits of iOS? 100k apps do not matter to me because I only use about 8 really.

I have had six Android phones and my wife has the Vibrant. WP7 rules. It’s smooth, easy to use. Live tiles are awesome. Facebook integration is superb. Don’t have to worry about killing apps. Far more efficient and battery-friendly than Android. Games are high quality. Just bought Fable Coin Golf and it rules.

Its not for me but more choice is good. Plus some people dont like iOS or Android.

Wonder if this is a “Tango” handset.  Most of the Sea Ray specs I’ve seen have a 8-megapixel camera not 5.

Nokia is going to have 3 tiers of phone..7xx..8xx…9xx.

    Very disappointing.

3.7 LCD vs. the Super Black OLED they have in the N9??
5MP? The optics better be stunning.
    720p? Still?
8GB Storage?  And probably no expandable storage.

If this isn’t the low end from Nokia, then I am extremely disappointed.

It is the lower end.  Their upper end will be the 9xx series not the 7xx series.

I would be SHOCKED if Nokia sea ray (or whatever the name) would be the first and THE ONLY Nokia Windows Phone.

These days Super Smartphones sell primarily on three things

    1) Super sleek Hardware .. whole world has seen how Nokia N9 looks . it
is out in public. Sea Ray wouldn’t have an iota of surprise element in
terms of hardware design . think iPhone 4 or SGS 2. people were
mesmerized by their unique and never-seen-before design .. N9 is definitely one of the best looking
and polished phones. But you can’t launch it AGAIN after the whole world has seen it for last
4-6 months all over the web.

    2) Smooth OS: Although mango
looks very promising. everyone has seen tons of videos of many of its
features already. So again nothing novelty / curiosity factor here for
the purpose of groundbreaking launch. Nokia will definitely add some
free GPS and other cool stuff. but that is not enough to turn around the
    sinking ship.

    3) Apps. This is one area where MS seems to be
doing good so far .. 30k apps in record time. they have the momentum and
if MS can leverage their strength / reach with developers then they can
quickly reach the magical figure of 100k (pick your favorite number)

So it just does not make sense to launch with publicly known hardware +
publicly seen software and expect to shake up the market space. it
would be the worst strategy and would quickly loose the steam.

    i
could be wrong but I have a strong feeling that all these leaks are by
Nokia itself to keep the interest/speculation going and then launch a
    completely new hardware .

trust Nokia to come up with a killer design and solid performance in terms hardware ..

come on Nokia .. surprise us ..

We have already seen this leak a few months ago, did we not?

I’m sure apple won’t sue them for copyrighted desirgn infringement or anything like that.  At first glance I expected this to be a new ipod model.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there are some major differences, but I do believe that Apple’s litigious nature may kill this new line of phones before they ever have a chance to make a market impact.
