Facebook will launch a music service on September 22nd, CNBC reported today. There are currently no details on whether it will be a streaming subscription service or simply a music storefront similar to iTunes, and Facebook has not yet confirmed the announcement. Business Insider said the Facebook music service will integrate with other third party services such as Spotify and Rdio. CNBC also suggested Facebook will work with MOG, another music service that has a long-standing relationship with Facebook. Spotify and Rdio currently allow users to integrate with social networks to share songs and playlists with friends.

Let me predict first this will go the way of Facebook Deals.

I second that prediction.   Facebook, frankly, seems a bit desperate to find ways to directly monetize their service but it seems like people just want to use Facebook for, well, Facebooking.

Who cares? Just what the world needs is FB seeing what everyone is listening too. FB is getting more creepy by the day.

People post youtube videos of songs all the time. I think Facebook should try and capitalize on that type of thing.

If there is one, it should be called “Time to Face the Music”.

And now begins the war between iTunes and Facebook. Especially if this works in the mobile app at some point. I like my stuff separate. So I use Google Music Beta. This is just another thing to congest the user experience at facebook. They are trying to do too many things. It is too BUSY already.
