'Exciting new features' coming to iOS location services, Apple says

mobile

Apple has big plans for location services according to a new job listing posted by the Cupertino, California-based company. In a listing for a new “OS QA Location Engineer,” Apple said the candidate will “join a dynamic team responsible for qualifying the latest iOS products, working on exciting new features for iOS location services.” The job also requires “familiarity with GPS, A-GPS, LBS, or navigation algorithms” and “experience with cellular technologies.” Apple has already said that it wants to “radically improve” its current iOS Maps application, which we would argue certainly needs an update, so it is possible the job could be on that team. In addition, Apple included a new location-based Reminders application inside iOS 5, which will launch to the public in the fall. Perhaps the company has similar ideas in store.

GOOG and DROID already have the location game on lockdown.

I like how he liked your comment. He’s such a troll, he loves the fact that you called him one.

I liked your comment about Norm liking Sachin’s comment so much I liked it.

Do you even realize that Google and Droid are two completely different entities? The Droid isn’t a company, nor is it even made by Google.

Damn it, you’re such a troll it’s unbelievable.

Uuuuggggghhhhh, so sorry, but you and Sachin are dumb.  I don’t understand how people keep falling for norm.  Norm is a self contained double troll. Its really quite amazing accomplishment.  There are only a few like him on BGR and even fewer in the world.  He’s an apple troll that trolls as a google troll, trolling for comments from people who don’t realize they’re being trolled (like you). As of 8/31/2011 9:19am est, its:

        Norm: 12
        You: 0

This will probably fluctuate when more people ‘like’ Sachin’s’ comment.

And if you look directly below here, you’ll find another self contained double troll in his native habitat.

” There are only a few like him on BGR and even fewer in the world.”
If your statement is correct, then there must be people posting on BGR who aren’t from “the world.”  That would explain alot actually.

I looked at his comment history, and he repeatedly refers to Android as DROID. All I saw was DROID DROID DROID DROID DROID. Shaking my head.

Google is definitely in control of navigation. They are helping us eliminate all the other companies in that space. Garmin, Tom Tom, etc are going out of business thanks to the awesomeness of google! Imagine how many other companies google will force out of business. Of course, Apple among them.

The reminders app is awesome. Love the fact you can set it to remind you when leaving/arriving a location.

Agreed! I’m really looking forward to this in iOS 5. I can’t tell you how many times my wife has asked me to stop at the grocery store on the way home from work only for me to forget (I have a terrible memory). With Reminders, I can simply get a reminder as soon as I leave the parking lot.

Not hating on apple but anything they ever add to their products is considered exciting by them.

I’ve owned all of them. Dual core sensation, G2X, epic, EVO, seriously. I DO prefer Android. Stability of the operating system is not good never was. And faster processors is not a fix for buggy software.

Are you lost?  I see no mention of Android in this article…

I’ve had location-based reminders AND location-based profiles for a while now, thanks to the ancient Windows Mobile platform…

    Whatever it is, I’ll
bet it is “Revolutionary™” like navigation or location based check-in.
