Sprint to hold 'Strategy Update' media event on October 7th

Business

Sprint will hold a media event on October 7th to discuss the company’s strategy moving forward. While the specific topics to be covered by Sprint’s senior management are unknown, there are certainly a few areas that are likely candidates. First and foremost, Sprint’s plans with 4G moving forward are a bit up in the air right now. The carrier announced a deal with LightSquared that could bring 4G LTE service to Sprint subscribers in the near future, but LightSquared is having issues with its spectrum that need to be ironed out. Clearwire’s future is anything but certain as well. Sprint CEO Dan Hesse did tell BGR that Sprint has 4G-related announcements in store for the fall, so the LightSquared deal was likely just the tip of the iceberg. Sprint is also set to launch Apple’s next-generation iPhone 5 handset this fall, and while we couldn’t get a peep out of the carrier while we were visiting its corporate headquarters back in July, we wouldn’t be surprised if Sprint is a bit more talkative in October when it comes to Apple smartphones.

Im willing to bet its going,to be tiered data plans, sense the iphone is coming out. Its the perfect excuse to intro them. Lets hope not….

Moving to tiered data makes no sense for Sprint just because of the iphone. Pay no attention to AT&T and Verizon tag-team screwing their customers. Sprint loses their competitive advantage by moving to tiers even if they get the iphone.

Why in the world would Sprint want to carry an Apple product? They’re ugly and don’t work at all! Keep Android only and you’ll be ok Sprint.

I asked elsewhere but if they’re changing to LTE, should I not buy a WIMAX phone right now?

    • Anonymous

Right now, wimax is what they have. In a few years, once LTE is announced, then you might reconsider.

The switch over is going to take a couple years… they won’t just stop making Wimax phones in the mean time

Good I was looking forward to picking up the Galaxy S2. Although my area doesn’t have 4g yet for some reason. Metro area of 1.5 million+ and no carrier offers it here.

“Sprint is also set to launch Apple’s next-generation iPhone 5 handset this fall…”

There are a number of problems with this statement.  First off, neither Sprint or Apple have confirmed this as a fact, yet you are reporting it as such.  Secondly, Apple hasn’t said it will be called the iPhone 5.  Thirdly, while many reports have indicated that we will see the fifth generation iPhone this fall, nothing has been officially announced.  Reporting these things as if they are set in stone is far from accurate journalism.  Nothing has been actually confirmed by either Sprint or Apple.  Bad job, BGR.

You could have fixed this whole sentence by just rewording it as such and made it far better, “Sprint is allegedly set to launch Apple’s fifth generation iPhone handset this fall…”

Having been in journalism in the past, one of my pet peeves, is using the power of the media for biased reporting or inaccurate information. If the journalists of BGR have a passion for Apple, they should be limiting themselves to just personal support by purchasing their products. From there, they should be reporting on all fair news for everything else.

If BGR cannot adhere to an unbiased, regimented, fair informative news site, then they need to advertise differently. Like “For All Your Apple Needs and News”.

I’ve become accustomed to browsing this site but not relying on it for accuracy. I have been a consumer for most of my 51 years and have owned Apple products in the past. I have found Android far more to my liking and tire of these forums trying to ram Apple down our throats. If they like Apple, that is fine. But what about us consumers that seek other info? The journalists and editors have become victim of the hype Steve Jobs and Apple have created by preying on these young apprentices. They should have been around when my generation dealt with Apple. Apple has not changed. They just found new hope through a generation that has no clue on how Apple operates. I speculate within the next couple of years, this generation will realize that the carrot Apple dangles in front of them, will wear. Spending good money on products that are always behind the competition. That is how they make record profits.

The difference between oil companies and Apple, is people don’t like to spend money on oil or gas. However, the same people will pay for a product that runs on the same principle. So Apple continues to lure these people in through cult following establishment.

Biggest mistake of all was even considering BGR journalism….

Wimax VS LTE… i think winner will be LTE (Only few countries use Wimax, USA, Korea, Japan, India.. while most European countries are operating LTE). CDMA was gay and i hope sprint follow the rest of the world = LTE!
