Asus to launch 5-6 Intel-powered Ultrabooks in October

General

Asus will launch as many as six Ultrabooks in October, Asus chairman Jonney Shih said on Monday. The notebooks will offer screen sizes between 11.6-inches and 13.3-inches. Intel detailed its plans to introduce a new category of notebooks, which it dubbed “Ultrabooks” in May. The chip maker hopes the new category will dominate 40% of the consumer notebook market by the end of 2012 and says the devices will combine the performance of today’s laptops with a tablet-like experience. Earlier reports suggested that mass production of Ultrabooks will begin in September and Intel recently invested $300 million in an effort to speed up the process of creating the devices. The first such device to hit the market is largely expected to be the ASUS UX21. Acer, Asus and Lenovo have all detailed plans to launch sub-$1,000 Ultrabooks during the fourth quarter but Shih said the six from Asus will be priced between $900 and $2,000.

Depending on pricing this may very well kill off the Macbook Air and the numerous tablets by all vendors in one swipe.

Like all the other tablets “killed” the iPad?

And other MP3 players “killed” the iPod?

Hell… even the 500,000 a day Android phones can’t “kill” the iPhone.

Any computer running any version of the Windows OS is JUNK, PERIOD. I don’t think Apple has anything to fear from the ASUS MacBook Air Imposter Series of PC garbage.

I find it amusing that over on engadget, many commentators are calling this a copy of the macbook air… yeah, so every notebook computer that is more powerful and lighter than it’s predecessors must be a copy of the macbook. Like, isn’t it the goal of every notebook manufacturers to make their product faster and lighter? This has been the case since notebooks were called laptops… or maybe all modern PC’s are a copy the original Apple I personal computer kit? Maybe the inventor of the abacus should sue all the computer makers. Maybe the inventors of mathematics should sue us all for adding numbers in our heads…

Everything new takes inspiration from something that already exists – doesn’t mean it’s a copy.Goddamned patents are killing competition – it’s an outdated concept, time to get rid of it!
