iPhone 5 will have metal chassis, display size under 4-inches

mobile

The iPhone 5 display will be no larger than 4-inches according to panel suppliers speaking to DigiTimes, which also revealed that Apple will ditch the current glass case on the iPhone 4 for a metal-backed chassis on the next-generation iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 display is expected to be between 3.5 and 3.7 inches and the latest rumor is in line with earlier reports that suggested the phone will be thinner and lighter than the current iPhone 4. The iPhone 5 is also expected to offer an 8-megapixel camera. BGR recently reported that AT&T will launch the iPhone 5 in October according to statements made by a vice president with the carrier.

    Too small, meh.

I’ve got medium sized hands and typing fast on iPhone 4 is nigh impossible for me.

Ah well, there’s always the iPhone 6, and 7, and 8….

Under 4inches? Goodbye Apple. Hello Samsung GS2.

I’ve often wondered how Apple would increase their screen size without making a phone that was too wide to use with one hand. You see, they use a weird squarish 3:2 aspect ratio so increasing the screen to, say, 4 inches would give you a pretty wide phone. You’d have to get rid of the bezel all together and even then I’m not sure it would work. 3.7 inches might be as big as they can go and still make the phone usable with one hand. I noticed a huge increase in one-handed usability when I went from the EVO 4g’s 5:3 screen to the more narrow 16:9 screen of the EVO 3d.

Another day; another rumor. Read quite a few of the replies. Entertaining stuff! LOL Honestly, I will buy an iPhone 5 regardless of the screen size. Given a choice I suppose I’d choose a 4″ screen but .3″ isn’t gonna be a deal-breaker for me. I’ll stick with the iPhone because IMO iOS is much more advanced (insert polished) than phones running Android OS. My experience has been that you can do the same things with Android OS but it’s just so much work and it’s not as fun to look at it while you’re doing it. Take the UI of the phone app., which for me is the most widely used app. Apple absolutely nailed it. Quite close on Android phones but the subtle differences seem to make all the difference in the world.  I’m not so sure I want a screen larger than 4″. I bought an Infuse for shits and giggles but found the thing was just too damn big! I had to constantly shift it around in the palm of my hand so I could contact keys with my thumb – and I don’t have tiny hands! Sold it the next day and returned to using my iPhone.

They don’t want to come out with a bigger sized screen because they do not want to look like followers of a trend being set by other manufacturers for premium phones.  This is 2011… a smartphone carrying the company flag having a 3.5 or 3.7″ screen is a major fail.  When the iphone 6 comes out with a 4+ inch screen, we’ll see who is the follower then.  And when this happens, let’s see if apple keeps talking about fragmentation hurting android.
