Samsung's AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint GALAXY S II devices revealed

mobile

Samsung is set to announce the U.S. variants of its GALAXY S II smartphone on Tuesday during a press event in New York City and a recent leak gives us a peak of what we can expect to be unveiled. On Friday, Pocketnow published a purported image of the GALAXY S II phones that are headed to AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. Judging from the picture, AT&T’s iteration remains relatively unchanged from the European model but we notice it does lack the hardware home button. The models headed toward T-Mobile and Sprint appear to ditch the sharp corners for more rounded edges. As we already know, Verizon Wireless will not announce a Galaxy S II model on August 29th, but we exclusively brought you the news that it will indeed offer a comparable device in the future. We also exclusively reported that Sprint’s S II will be branded as the Samsung Epic Touch 4G, and it looks like the name will stick when these sleek Samsung smartphones are unveiled on Tuesday. We’ll be on hand reporting live from the event, weather permitting.

Hmmmm…. Looks interesting. I would definitely like to get my hands on one of these. Hopefully the AT&T model does’t get as handicapped as all their previous “Flagship” Android devices have

Care to inform us how at&t is handicapping their phones? The only way they ever did was keeping them from side loading apps and all of their phones including the older ones have been able to do that for a few months now.

        Disable native tethering

      • http://www.nerd-news.com Rob Boggan

Sure thing. At&t is notoriously bad for loading their phones up with THE MOST bloatware of any carrier. Every carrier does it but not on the scale that AT&T does. Their bloatware also always runs in the background on some phones literally hogging program/memory space and bogging down the phone. A lot of this bloatware CAN NOT be removed unless you root your phone. At&T is also terrible when it comes to software updates. Historically their Android phones are always DEAD LAST to get any updates pushed through even AFTER the OEM has approved it for release.

May sound like minor piddly stuff but to me, these are pretty big things.

At least they don’t push their own “app store” on every Android phone like that other carrier…

Actually, some of the newer Verizon phones come with industry-leading amounts of bloatware.  The AT&T phones come with Radio, Family Map, Code Scanner, TV, NFS Shift, and YP Mobile.  It’s not THAT much stuff.  My stock ROM Atrix isn’t running ANY of them.  Just fucking Vlingo, that’s the only thing that I didn’t open that runs.

PS, you’re dumb.  Thanks for trying.

      • http://www.nerd-news.com Rob Boggan

I’ll be dumb but one thing I’m not is wrong. You can remove the bloatware from your Atrix yes, but have you tried it on a Captivate, or an Inspire, or an Infuse? How about the Status, or the Crossover, or any of their other Android phones? no…… i’ll wait. Now go grab a charge, or a thunderbolt, or the shitty revolution, or the incredible, or any of the droids and take the bloatware out.

The Atrix as it stands is the only AT&T phone you can remove any bloatware from. Didn’t mean to upset you there cupcake

I didn’t remove shit from my Atrix.  It’s just not running.  You’ve admitted you’re dumb, and now you’re wrong.  Holla holla poop dolla

Either Verizon is getting the Nexus Prime or Verizon doesn’t like good phones. The Droid line has become laughable to say the very least. Its not secret that Verizon is the most expensive carrier, with that shouldn’t we get the newest phones?

    • http://twitter.com/GRZLA Grizzly Atoms

Fuck the Droid Bionic, I will never buy a MotoBlur device.

Or they need a thicker version to fit an  LTE radio.

UPDATE: Due to the hurricane approaching the New York area, Samsung has pushed this event back one day to Tuesday, August 30th.
    Damn! . . . another 24hours

If Verizon had a version it would be $100 more than the other 3 anyway.  All I have to say is that Verizon better be getting the damn Nexus Prime if they truly aren’t carrying the GS2.  At this point I’m waiting on either the nexus prime or Nokia to blow me away with a mango phone running on sick hardware.

I swear every story on BGR is a “BGR exclusive”. Come on you are wearing out the word exclusive.

Cool! I hope the AT&T version has the same screen size as the Infuse.

Well thanks to Verizon, it looks like I will be going with ATT for the GS II variant. I cannot wait to fire Sprint, the WORST carrier that I ever had. I hope this phone is available within a few weeks. All I know is that these devices had better be released before ANY OFFICIAL iPhone 5 announcement.

    • http://www.itsagadget.com Chris

Don’t worry mate, iPhone 5 will still lack many Android OS features. One of those is true multitasking. Instead it will probably come with other marketing bullshit things.

  • Yomama

    freaking finally….

    only how many months late!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • BurleyShells

lol those look awful, typical 4 button butcher

I’m glad canada has the original variant of sgs2 should I want to pick it up

    • Anonymous

I want the same one, but only official AT&T devices connect to the 3G Microcell.  I need mine inside my home.

    >>a recent leak gives us a peak<<

The leak gave you a mountaintop?  C'mon, guys…  it's spelled "PEEK."

  • Anonymous

I’m glad I bought mine while back cause personally I like the center button a lot better, it just seems faster and easier to find i remember on my old captivate I would always hit the wrong buttons.

  • RH

Only TEN MONTHS after Samsung released it.  Then, a couple months from now, Samsung will intro a 5″ or just a little larger screen with more this & that, and we’ll start the cycle all over again ;)

    • http://www.facebook.com/vegas.nyc Vinny Verde

so, it was RELEASED in November? Wooooooow. Where?

      • RH

Just about everywhere EXCEPT North America ;)

      • Tjoannou2001

Wow you guys are dumb. the phone was showcased in feb this year and released in march april i think. go do research

  • Anonymous

This is looking mighty interesting. Samsung
is announcing a new and updated SII next week with a 4.5″ screen and a
1.5ghz dual processor. Samsung is also unveiling the US models next
    week. Now…the
Sprint model FCC filing showed it to be larger than the original
version Samsung released….big enough to support a 4.5″ screen I would
    think. The
back of the Sprint variant in the leaked photos had a sort of brushed
metal finish look rather than the typical shiny one….and so does the
new and improved Samsung is announcing next week reportedly. Lastly…the
Sprint variant has the same camera orientation and the new and improved
version, unlike any other variants we’ve seen to date. Coincidence? I am beginning to think not perhaps not?

  • GinaDee

The AT&T one looks more squared while the other 2 appear more curved similar to the AT&T’s Captivate was square.

I like the way the T-Mobile version looks in the image above.

  • Anonymous

I like this buttonless design more than the original galaxy s2 design.

  • Anonymous

I want to thank you for stalling this release out so long that I can now just go ahead and wait for the Nexus Prime..

  • Anonymous

At&T version looks good. Just wish i never bought my out of date Atrix
