Firefox 6 adoption takes off

Software

Users are flocking towards Mozilla’s latest Firefox 6 browser according to new data from Chitika Insights, the research arm of ad network Chitika. The company watched Firefox 6 adoption across its network in the United States and Canada from the browser’s debut on August 16th until August 22nd. Chitika Insights said that in just one week, Firefox 6 had already garnered 8% of the company’s traffic. In addition, Firefox 6 now represents 45% of all Firefox traffic, although the firm says the speed of growth has slowed since early adopters have already upgraded.

Not hard to believe considering all the ‘upgrade now’ popups FF has. What’s next, iOS5 ‘adoption’ on launch day?

firefox 6 kicks ass. i finally switched over from safari not only cause v5.1 was unusable on a pc due to mad scrolling issues that STILL haven’t been addressed, but also because it’s faster and more stable then safari 5.0.5. plus the new design takes up less real-estate then safari which is much appreciated on a 10.1 inch netbook. :)

Even IE looks good coming from a browser like Safari…

After years with Firefox, this 6.0 upgrade killed it for me.  Slow to load, couldn’t open two instances without it locking up. Switched to Chrome – so much faster and cleaner.

Yeah Firefox doesn’t seem to work with myspace music player, BBC radio player and various other java plugins. Chrome however is quick, efficient and a pleasure to use.

I’m having irritating problems with FF6, but since I’m not allowed to have IE9 or Chrome at work, and I tend to surf ‘questionable sites’ (I do infosec incident response), I need the controls FF and it’s add-ons allow.

I do like chrome on my Mac.

    Aren’t they on 7 now?

I don’t even use firefox 5 because it is incompatible with some of the plug-ins version 4 still runs.

Firefox 6 has so many problems, I am thinking of going back to 5. It has frozen up on me at least 10 times. It is a strange freeze where you get stuck on one tab even though you can select another tab. So your main window is frozen yet the tabs operate properly. It has also dumped core twice on the Android Forums home page. Plus all the plugins that don’t work. Do they not even work with the people writing plugins to give them a heads up that a change is coming? (:

Agreed.  I’m still using FF4 b/c I had too many issues going from 3.6 to 4 with plug-ins not working.  Don’t want the same scenario when upgrading to 5 or 6.

I really love to see Firefox releasing new versions and getting better. My only problem has been that I’ve gotten to the point where I really depend on 1Password and if I can’t use that extension than I can’t use the browser. Firefox was just releasing new versions to frequently and was interfering with my flow that I’ve gotten comfortable using Chrome.

The browser has definitely gotten better just from my usage when it comes to memory usage, but I like chrome’s speed better.

I’m looking forward to Lion full-screen support in a future Firefox update.

Hey Mal – I use 1PW just fine in FF6 on both Snow and Lion.  They’re keeping very up to date with the extensions, they’re usually out within days of a new FF release.

Just imagine how many, millions, more people would be “flocking” to it if they made it for all platforms?!

javascript on ff6 is slower than ff5, also some pixels renders not in correct position on zoom mode

Well, now that Google has abandoned their toolbar, nothing left to keep me using FF4…
