CUPERTINO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Apple’s Board of Directors today announced that Steve Jobs has resigned as Chief Executive Officer, and the Board has named Tim Cook, previously Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, as the company’s new CEO. Jobs has been elected Chairman of the Board and Cook will join the Board, effective immediately.

“Steve’s extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world’s most innovative and valuable technology company”

“Steve’s extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world’s most innovative and valuable technology company,” said Art Levinson, Chairman of Genentech, on behalf of Apple’s Board. “Steve has made countless contributions to Apple’s success, and he has attracted and inspired Apple’s immensely creative employees and world class executive team. Jobs submitted his resignation to the Board today and strongly recommended that the Board implement its succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO.

As COO, Cook was previously responsible for all of the company’s worldwide sales and operations, including end-to-end management of Apple’s supply chain, sales activities, and service and support in all markets and countries. Steve Jobs was a good man he could go down as the best CEO of all time maybe behind Bill Gates but personally I think he is better….

But this MAY mark the time of Apple’s dominance ending and let Windows Phone and RIM catch up

I used to work in the executive offices of a major reatiler.  Our CEO was a brilliant marketing guy who made the company strong and thrive amid incredible competition.

Then he left one day and he was replaced with an accountant and the company went to heck in a handbasket.

Jobsey was a creative visionary and was responsible for Apple becoming the company it is today.

Tim Cook is neither visionary nor creative and if you dont think thats important in this industry, you dont understand the industry.

This is a major change in direction for Apple and for all the tech industry that built an industry following his lead.

It’s also a sad day for those of us who love technology and the cool ideas that both brought us here and would have taken us forward.

Who’s going to lead the charge now?

People can say what they want to about Steve Jobs but until innovations from him & Apple brought in the iPhone the phone market had a lot of shitty devices. Palm, Windows & RIM probably would still be making sucky phones & who knows when Android would hav been released. I salute him, even though I own a HTC EVO 4G

Sadly, Steve’s departure will be the end of Apple. Steve doesn’t look good physically in recent days, he doesn’t have much time to live. Steve, it’s been an honor to have seen you in action and how you made an idea (music, iPod) blossom into an Eco system. You are and will always be one of the greatest leader of our time!

Good riddance…now maybe the successor will open the iOS platform and actually be an innovator again, instead of a mindless sheep following others (I’m looking at you, iOS notification bar).

I doubt it. Meanwhile, android OS continues to dominate while apple’s marketshare shrinks and shrinks and shrinks, last time I checked it was 60% android/20% iOS. Sounds familiar…just like the desktop market!

Does anyone else notice how far up apples ass the author of this article is? The iPad2 is far from defining anything. Posted from my Blackberry Playbook.

Is it just me or does this read more like a suicide letter than the resignation of a fortune five hundred ceo?

Any of your dochebags that are slamming Steve Jobs are simply haters.  Apple products may not be for you (probably because you are a hater) but you can not deny his contribution to technology.

Long live Steve JObs, Long live innovation, Long live Apple!

Now that the new cheese has been “outed” I despise them even more.
When I see him on stage , I will wonder if he is “bottom”  LOL
