Here's Steve Jobs's resignation letter to Apple and you

Breaking

Steve Jobs has officially resigned as CEO of Apple, and here is his resignation letter to Apple and you, the Apple community.

To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve

The man that fills his shoes will not be able too. He has done to much and the new CEO won’t do enough, you watch. They are going to be all over this new CEO.

Isn’t it curious? There are all these armchair ‘experts’ who would seem to know more about the running of Apple than the people actually doing the job.
It makes you wonder why they are spending their time posting meaningless and ignorant comments on forums such as this instead of creating their own Apple-type corporations….

webOS fanboys (me included) were saying the same about Palm and HP up till last thursday.

Still having a hard time grasping this breaking news, I mean I get it, but still can’t believe it’s true. Steve Jobs is truly one of a kind there’s no denying that. Hard to absorb this news really, either way Steve is not retiring at least and even if he was his amazing legacy would live on.

End of the Apple regime!!!! This akin to Gadafi being thrown out, Sadam being captured, or bin Laden being shot! Victory for DROID!!!!!!!

      Seriously, don’t be a turd!

Separate yourself from the “CrApple/Android” fight for a few minutes to realize that this is a human life you are talking about!  And truly a human life that has shown amazing talent, tenacity, and drive.

We should all be so lucky to have an idea, and the intestinal fortitude to make it, not only into a product, but into a company and eventually into an ecosystem that literally has become almost a religion for its fanbase.  As well as a giant pillar of success for its competitors to strive to attain some measure of!!

No arguing about it, he is a great talent, a marketing genius, and a focused technology beacon.

I will be the first one to say (and there is proof all over BGR) that I have no use for CrApple products, look at them with disdain, and enjoy each and every marketshare story that shows Android is kicking the crap out of them…

….BUT!  Steve Jobs is a person, someones son, someones husband, someones friend…and that means that he deserves respect as a human being!  I would have loved to sit with him and discuss my distaste for his way of doing things, but I would have done it with respect.

My co-workers call me a “hater” of Apple, and that simply isn’t true.  I have respect for the products, and for the design, and the tech.  I don’t like Apple products, yes I have used them, I just don’t like their “closed” ideas, or their icons in your face all the time design.  Not for me, obviously “some” people like it!

I have never “hated” CrApple, I have never “hated” Steve Jobs…that I can promise you!

Good Luck Mr. Jobs, my hat is off to you, and my prayers are with you always!  May you accomplish more wonders while still on this earth….that I don’t like!
      :-)

      God Bless!

very eloquent and tasteful, thank you. in my mind, Apple only exists to motivate other companies’ innovation.
Jobs doesn’t equal Apple. there are lots of other people involved. many of Apple’s best ideas were bought whole cloth from independent innovators. Jobs just kept the beast chained and focused.
i could give a rat’s ass if Jobs dies tomorrow, but i’m not going to hate on him because i don’t support his empire. he’s an impressive character and deserves admiration for what he accomplished. but loving or hating the man, from a consumer standpoint, is just ridiculous. i know lots of talented and innovative people. i don’t idolize (or demonize) them all.
i think the man deserves a place in textbooks, not wet dreams.

Sad day indeed. Get well Steve.

    • serpentor

Do people still say “get well” to someone that’s terminally ill?

      Just seems strange to me.

People can get better, if not hopefully be at peace and feel better.

I,m an unabashed Android Fanboy, but this is beyond belief. My first 2 smartphones were the og iphone and the iphone 3g. I loved those phones. In fact MOnday night almost bought an Iphone 4 but Best Buy was out of stock locally. So I got an Infuse 4g which with touchwiz looks a lot like ios. I,m glad i got it , made the right call because I love Android but I wish this man nothing but the best. Apple made the smartphone what it is and made Android reach so high. So however long he has I hope he gets peace love and complete happiness. God Bless Steve Jobs, the world will be a little lessfun without you.

Guess this means Flash is coming to iOS devices next year, even if ppl won’t care about Flash then lol

Steve said it right, that day has come. Not sure how much time he has remaining but it should be spent with family and friends and not at work. Doubt anyone ever says at the end of their life, “gosh, I wish I spent one more day at work”. Didn’t always agree with what he did or how he conducted business but have to admire his accomplishments.

Sad day for all of us. Steve is an amazing man. We should all be grateful to him.

    • invisiblemonki

seriously? thank you for re-aligning my entire worldview without my consent. i’m so glad you could remind me how ungrateful i am. you’re a genius for ignoring any paradigm but your own.
no, i’m not “grateful” to steve fucking jobs. and i’m not sad. in fact, other than a quick “wow, sucks to have cancer”, i barely care. i’m much more interested in reading the inane comments that this kind of thing spawns.

So tough and hard behind the craven anonymity of a computer screen.

      • invisiblemonki

what? i said stop expecting me to feel gratitude to the man. it’s ridiculous. it sucks he has cancer. especially such a painful form of it. but really, i’m going to save my grief for the people in MY LIFE who have cancer. i don’t wish it on anyone (well, some truly evil people), but for that guy to EXPECT me to feel gratitude towards someone, and to impose that ideal on everyone, without considering that some might disagree, is hubris. i am not grateful to steve jobs. i don’t think he deserves to be sainted. i think he’s an intelligent businessman and genius (if somewhat unscrupulous) marketer, with a huge ego. he’s also facing something that is horrible. but, sorry i don’t sit and cry every night for the injustice of it all. people i DO KNOW are dying of cancer, and facing it valiantly. i try to support them, and their loved ones, and, at the end of the day, i count my blessings that it isn’t me or my closest friends and family in that situation and move on with my life.
sorry, i’m not sad, because i don’t know the man. “it is sad” in a general sense, but it is not a “sad day for all of us”. don’t speak for me, that’s what i said.

To ‘invisiblemonki’; “Steve fucking Jobs” – you ugly, disrespectful piece of sh!t.

Can you really not manage to come up with anything better than that?

I would have thought the ‘sheep’ were the mindless drones who can think of nothing better than knocking one manufacturer or an other, or one OS or another…

While I like to poke fun at Apple iToy users, and bash iBGR,  I will have you know that no other company provided me with a better tool for creation than Apple. I hope that Apple maintains its quality when it comes to the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro Desktop line. I’ve always loved the form and function of those Apple products. A lot of people may rip on Steve Jobs and thats fine, but I will always respect him for the Laptop and Desktop line he helped bring the consumer…

Reading some of these comments still tells me the human race will destroy itself.
Most of you should be ashamed of yourselves, but I’m sure you have no idea what kind of person everyone else already knows you are.

Well said but it takes some degree of intellect to feel shame and intellect is largely absent in these forums…

    “you, the Apple community.”

Ah, I get it now. BGR thinks all of its readers are part of the Apple community.
