Apple prepping cheaper iPhone 4 to launch in September alongside iPhone 5

mobile

Apple is preparing to launch a new, less expensive iPhone 4 model that will become available at the end of September alongside the iPhone 5, Reuters reported on Tuesday. Citing multiple anonymous sources, the news organization says that the retooled iPhone 4 will feature a smaller 8GB flash drive manufactured by an unnamed South Korean company. Apple has sourced flash drives for its current iPhone models from Toshiba and Samsung. Reuters also contradicts recent reports that the iPhone 5 will launch in early October, writing instead that Apple is “targeting an end-September launch for the next-generation iPhone 5.” The report restates numerous others that claim the iPhone 5 will feature a larger display, a new antenna design and an 8-megapixel camera.

    Hello Huge Market Share Gain,
I’d like to thank you for making Apple insanely profitable. Sure I know this news might see silly in the US due to their crazy service plan pricing and data caps, but we both know it’s all about the Asian market now. You keep on growing, baby.

    Love
    Steve Jobs

    OMG!
Apple does this every year. The 8GB 3GS is being sold now cheaper then the 16GB iPhone 4 (cue “The More You Know” theme).
    There’s nothing new here

Is Shaw Wu hot on the trail for you guys on this one?

  • Georgetown Sir

I would never buy a 8gb iphone, my music library can fill that. 32gb or nothing. Hopefully they make a 64gb iPhone. Seriously, if you buy a iPhone with the intentions of being cheap, just get a android and pirate with the rest of those nerds and thieves.

Think you are ignoring iCloud… Smaller memory devices make more sense. You actually have to have 32gigs of Music on your phone? Where is the room for all those apps? Sir, you are doing it wrong.

And more data usage from iCloud devices means more profits for carriers. It’s a win-win-lose.

Just download Google Music, get an invite…oh wait sorry. Enjoy iCloud whenever it comes out.

Pirate? Thieves? When did android = thieves?

Btw, congratulations on helping apple become the most profitable company in the world with their overpriced devices

Did they start buying Apps yet in the Android store?

iPhone 4 is already down to $99.99 here in Canada on new activations/upgrades… when the Iphone 5 comes out it will be down to $49.99 or less….

    this rumour makes no sense…

Apple is trying to target China and Pre-Paid customers, their is more money for them there.  As far as the discounted prices in Canada, it is the carriers who are eating the buy in price, with hopes to make it up with service charges over time.  You still can’t purchase a new iPhone 4 off contract for a resonable price.  That’s what the cheap i4 is supposed to do.

Along with those fantastic 3-year contracts..

Would be nice. I use a 8 gig samsung Focus, at first I thought I would blow through the 8 gig, but with streaming with Zune, I still have 4 gig remaining. Apple doing this will hopefully force other phone makers to provide a cheap high end solution. I don’t see how anyone would have anything negative to say about this, it’s going to be a win for the consumer.

Another day, another shitty ass iphone rumour or report or whatever you wanna call it. Seriously, I think we’ve all had enough of it. How about we just wait until the announcement and we will all know what the deal is. Sorry BGR but I’ve had enough of your bullshit!

You’ll NEVER get enough, you troll! And you’ll be back again and again and again and again…

I told him good. Real good.

  • Booboolala2000

“Bbbut no one wants a larger display!” Waaaaa! iDiot’s. At least now you will be able to make out what the little blue birds look like on a four inch screen. About damn time crapple. And yes, I know that they sell shit tons of devices, Ford sold lots of Pintos and America re-elected W too.

Why is this important?  Outside of older men who wear skinny jeans, who still uses iPhones?  These things are so dated.

    • Anonymous

      hahahaha-absolutely right; it’s a woman’s phone.  Android=iOS for Men.

      • Anonymous

ummmm actually Android=iOS for nerds…….or people not important enough to have a BlackBerry..

Lookin’ for facts at this point.

I’m also interested in how this will compare to the price drops Apple introducing on its older phone models every time they announce a new one. It’s usually been the case that older products have dropped down by $100 if I recall.

We’re sure to see an old model drop down to $99 in any case. Personally I doubt Apple will have to develop a *new* phone to make that happen.

WHATS THIS EVERYONE KNOWS HE GONNA MAKE IPHONE 4 CHEAPER WHY IS THIS NEWS HE DONE IT THE PAS 4 YEARS

  • http://profiles.google.com/the1aboveall James Padilla

I wonder if the cheaper model will be placed on Sprint/T-Mobile?  Leaving the actual iPhone 5 on AT&T/Verizon?  Makes sense.  Still no word on these other 2 carriers…  I wish something would slip up.

Apple needs to hurry up and release this already.

  • Demofya

OOOOHHHH, so now I can get the precious iPhone 4 for just the low price of $449.99. Thats a great savings… (this is sarcasm).

Apple will not offer a “cheaper” anything by society standards until people stop buying their products in large quantities.
