Verizon workers end strike and return to work

mobile

Verizon employees will end a widely publicized strike on Tuesday and return to work. 45,000 Verizon employees went on strike on August 7th after failing to reach an agreement over new contract terms. The Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers still have not reached an agreement with Verizon and the two sides are still negotiating, according to reports. In the meantime, the old contract remains in effect. “The strike was about the process,” Communications Workers of America president Larry Cohen said. “We are now convinced that a change to the process is possible. The risk of going back to work while negotiating this is worth it to us,” Cohen said, noting that it’s unlikely an agreement will be reached in the next month. Verizon spokesperson Rich Young told reporters that Verizon still wants to change union worker’s benefits as a result of a decline in wireline revenues.

Verizon Board Member:  Why not have the minions take cuts??  Obviously setting data caps and charging $300 for the new bionic just isn’t making us enough money.  I’ve only been to my house in Cabo 3 times this year.  Damn Recession!!

Please understand verizon landline and Verizon Wireless are two seperate companies. Moron

Union Trolls are still trolls though

      • Anonymous

Yes because Verizon Communications doesn’t own half of Verizon Wireless.

        *face palm*

Verizon Wireless is a separate company, regardless of who owns what percentage of the company.  Both have different executive structures, different leadership… and most importantly to this fools argument, different labor contracts.  As in…. one is unionized, the other is not.  So…………….. striking workers has to do with Verizon Wireless how???  Please explain how that fits into your theory, Lumbergh… yeah… we’re gonna need you to come in on Saturday to figure that one out.

TAX THE RICH?!  A declining division should be treated as such.  It makes zero business sense to subsidize a department on the back of one that’s booming, unless you see it as a BUSINESS investment for future gain.  Verizon is clearly going toward wireless, so they should spend their money on LTE rollout, not wireline labor.  If the labor is unhappy, they should troll the job board for wireless jobs…

You can’t stubbornly demand status quo, on somebody else’s dime, when your work is of declining value.

      • Bullet Tooth Tony

Verizon Communications isn’t declining… wires will be around, in case you’re unaware, forever.  Verizon Communications makes its bread and butter selling to businesses, corporations and multi-nationals.  Selling tools like you home phone service is icing on their giant cake.  You know how much they charge to run fiber from worksite to worksite?  Do you know how much it is to install a T1 *card*, nevermind the lines required to wherever its installed… don’t even worry about faster servers.  Try to figure out that one first.  Enterprise services are higher cost to implement, higher reward afterwards.

…They’re selling their copper to Frontier for a reason.  They aren’t focused on retail phone service… Verizon Communications is not doing anything for the LTE rollout.  If anything, Verizon Wireless, the entirely separate company, BUYS backhaul services from Verizon Communications.  Yes… they get charged for it.  It wouldn’t be done for free.  Ever. Even if they weren’t separate companies, different departments charge each other for services.  Move your desk?  IT will charge your department the cost of moving your equipment and activating the new locations phone & data services… nothing in this world is free… not even internal services.

I got an iPad 2-32GB for $ 23.87 and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $ 38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $ 657 which only cost me $ 62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, http://to.ly/aZKm

Anytime you see a union go back to work from a strike, WITHOUT a contract, they are getting worried that their jobs might be in jeopardy, or the union doesn’t want to spend the money on strike benefits.  CWA isn’t the all powerful union they were.  People ditching their landlines right and left.

  • Mac

Fire the greedy mother fuckers and then they can bitch all day long. Unions are the cause for the demise if manufacturing and prosperity in the US.

Mac, your comments are so incredibly retarded they have the ability to reduce the reader’s intelligence.

      Good Job!

      • Anonymous

Agreed! It made me so retarded, I’m thinking of becoming a union leader now.

      • Anonymous

        Not likely.

        You were already initially retarded.

      • I’m Kick-Ass!

        “You were already initially retarded.”

Why didn’t you say so. Now he qualified to head the union.

    • Bullet Tooth Tony

Oh how much you have yet to learn, little one. Eventually you’ll see…. It’s about taking our money out of this country, to pay people in a larger market, so that they can buy your goods and services in that larger market because of the revenue growth potential. Manufacturing can still be done here just as cheap… But this market is 300 million….. Not 3 billion.

But go ahead and fall for their divide and conquer strategy: blame the unions, blame your neighbors, blame whatever political party you don’t belong to… Just don’t stand in their way as they take your money, buy your government with it, and send their profits overseas to invest in emerging markets.

      • Anonymous

        Yeah, right on, brotha!

If anyone’s going to take my money, it’s going to be the union via my dues!

It it weren’t for a couple dozen union guys in the back alley . . . your mama says you wouldn’t be here now!

If they think they are getting so underpaid, maybe they should pack their bags and go elsewhere. I’m certain there are plenty of American’s that would be grateful to fill their spots.

    • Anonymous

You, Sir, make far too much sense for us self-entitled folks! Why suggesting that we quit our jobs because our employers are treating us unfairly, and find another job like what most ordinary people would do, is simply absurd!

My brothers and sisters of the Coalition of Adult Film Stars & Fluffers of America, Local 69, will not stand for it one bit, and neither should these fellow teamsters.

    • Anonymous

      Agreed.

People should just allow the corporations to do as they please.  Because we all know that the corporations are the ones who suffer!  Between tax loopholes and obscene revenue, how can they ever survive?!

Damn people sticking up for themselves, for their wages and healthcare…

      They must be socialists!

If Verizon Communications and Verizon Wireless are 2 separate companies….can anyone tell me what Verizon Wireless Stock symbol is….Thats right there isn’t one…it is one company with one network for everything.  Say all ya want about it being 2 separate companies, dont let the facts get in the way.

    • Bullet Tooth Tony

Are you dumb?  Or just plain stupid?  Here’s a hint.  Verizon Wireless doesn’t have a stock symbol because it’s PRIVATELY HELD and not traded.  Shocking, I know.  Can you tell me what Wegmans stock symbol is?  Oh, there isn’t one?  I guess Wegmans must not exist.  Can you tell me what the symbol is for Koch Industries?  Oh, you can’t?  I guess the Koch brothers made billions by sticking their thumbs up Republicans asses and not by selling things like Quilted Northern.  Can you tell me what the stock symbol is for Mars Candies?  Oh, there isn’t one?  I guess I didn’t buy a package of Peanut M&Ms yesterday, they simply can’t exist either unless they’re traded on a public stock market.  How about Chrysler?  Can you tell me what the stock symbol is for them?  I see one for Ford, GM, Toyota… but no Chrysler… Chrysler must not exist either, all those cars, and Dodges ad Jeeps… they must be figments of my imagination!

If you took your own advice, and let the facts get in your way, you wouldn’t have made such a retarded post.  The name of the company is CellCo Partnership.  Verizon Wireless is a d.b.a. name, Doing Business As, since you obviously have no real world experiences in business.  For example, you could go get yourself a d.b.a. account and tax ID any time you want as an individual.  The company could be called “Jay d.b.a. Retarded Comments On Blogs.”

Thats alot of words…me to stupid to understand all that.

        Headquartered in Basking Ridge, N.J.,
Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE,
NASDAQ:VZ) and Vodafone (NASDAQ and LSE: VOD).

Soooooo that means Verizon wireless would be included in the stock VZ…look at that they do exist.
Enjoy your non existent Peanut M&Ms.

      • Bullet Tooth Tony

Wow… you got me now, don’t ya?  I guess your kindergarden level of economics understanding trumps mine.  Berkshire Hathaway owns stock in such companies as Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Coca-Cola, GEICO, General Re, Fruit of the Loom, Acme, Shaw Carpets, The Pampered Chef, Dairy Queen, Orange Julius, American Express, Kraft Foods, Moody’s, Wal Mart, GE, Wrigley…… the list can go on for quite a while, so I’ll stop there.Moody’s, Wal Mart, GE, Wrigley…… the list can go on for quite a while, so I’ll stop there.
Why did I bring up Berkshire Hathaway? Because all of these companies are their own entities. Berkshire Hathaway owns anywhere from 5-100% of each of them. Yet each one stands on their own, clearly… their own executives, their own employees, their own earnings sheets, their own costs…. their own industries. Most sell stock publicly as well, some others are privately held. All of them, however, show up on BRK.A’s earning sheets and stock reports. They’re separate companies, always will be – but BRK.A needs to report them as earnings or losses accordingly as the holding company. Verizon Wireless is a separate company too – Verizon Communications needs to report their earnings and/or losses from them as shareholders of the company on their stock — your infantile belief that because they share the same name, they are the same company, is downright idiotic. Lowell McAdam, the CEO of Verizon Communications, is not the CEO of Verizon Wireless – Dan Mead is. In fact, Verizon Communications hired Lowell McAdam away from VZW.

You should’ve quit while you were behind. No worries though man… I’ll gladly loan you the 10 dollars you need to go open up your d.b.a. “Jay’s Retarded Comments On Blogs.” And yes… Verizon Wireless, headquarters: Basking Ridge, NJ…….. Verizon Communications, headquarters: New York City, NY… the building is even named after them…. dummy.
