More evidence Apple is testing 4G LTE iPhone and iPad emerges

mobile

New evidence has emerged that further confirms Apple’s ongoing tests of an LTE-enabled iPhone and iPad. BGR exclusively reported last week that multiple Apple carrier partners are currently testing iPhone models equipped with LTE radios. Our source also supplied a PLIST file containing evidence of the LTE-enabled iPhone. Now, MacRumors has discovered this LTE.plist file in iOS 5 developer builds for both the GSM iPhone 4 and the CDMA iPad 2. While the discovery of these files does not necessarily indicate that Apple plans to release 4G LTE-compatible devices in the near future, it does reaffirm that ongoing tests are being conducted with the new high-speed wireless technology. An additional report emerged last week claiming that several Apple Store locations were having new 4G LTE equipment installed, even providing photographic evidence of the new gear. Once again, this news does not necessarily suggest that 4G LTE-enabled Apple products will launch in the immediate future, but it could be safe to say Apple will be ready to support LTE once U.S. and global coverage is expanded.

More evidence BGR is testing my patience

      YES!!

I suppose all of these tech sites should just hide all of the iOS news out there? There is a lot more iOS news out there. ESPECIALLY when it comes to new apps or companies supporting it with new apps. Get over it. In case you haven’t noticed, ALL of the general smartphone sites have a lot of iOS news … and it will only get worse as iPhone 5 comes out. Maybe you should stick with Android Central. Or something SPECIFIC to what you like.

In case you haven’t noticed, ALL of the general smartphone sites have a lot of PEOPLE WHO DONT LIKE iOS NEWS. … and it will only get worse as iPhone 5 comes out. Maybe you should stick with TiPB.

      • numetheus

Actually that isn’t true. Out of all of the people who come here to read, an extremely SMALL number of people post. iOS stories get a very large percentage of click throughs. On every tech site they top the top stories. Most of the readers don’t comment. If they DID there would be a hell of a lot more comments than they are. If everyone really did hate them, they wouldn’t post so many. Blogs like this make money from readers. If most readers love iOS by click through, then they should post more stories.

This is true with ANY of the big tech sites. Look at Engadget. They don’t hold back on iOS stories either because people like reading them. I am sure you’re right. There ARE lots of people who don’t like iOS news. But there are far more that DO. And as a BUSINESS, you don’t make money by catering to the lower number.

Or perhaps people read the articles to stay up to date? I read every article wether I like the product or not. Because well, it’s in my job description to be up to date on the latest cellular industry news.

This just in, after confirming that the iPhone 5 will be 4g, we are once again confirming it will be 4g.

I got an iPad 2-32GB for $ 23.87 and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $ 38.76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $ 657 which only cost me $ 62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from,http://x.co/ZBpb

More evidence that Apple stories bring lots of eyeballs.

  • Anonymous

I’m sure they’re testing a whole bunch of things, that doesn’t mean its going to come to fruition any time soon. Stop reaching!

    • Anonymous

The article makes mention a couple of times that this is no evidence that Apple will be releasing a 4G device in the immediate future.

      • Anonymous

It actually says “not necessarily”, hence a reach. I did read the article, thanks.

      • Anonymous

Evidently, to read is not necessarily indicative of one’s ability to comprehend.

  • Anonymous

It has to come sooner or later… for Verizon there’s no reason there shouldn’t be an LTE iPhone . . . they already have half the US covered…. and its like lightning …. only thing I think Apple would be worried about is battery life…. we’ll see how it all works out.

But for all we know this info may be for the “NEXT” iPhone… apple tends to drag its feel as we know.

  • John

i just want this f’ing phone to come out so BGR can back to real topics that people care about

    • Anonymous

While I agree with it needs to be released to slow the rumormill, what important news are they not giving us? Smartphones are becoming less and less amazing everyday. Nothing really “new” or “exciting” has come out for a while, for me at least.

    • Anonymous

      Then rumor about ipad3 ipod5 iphone6

      • John

        crap. ya good point :-(

  • Captain Obvious

Great, now crApple will sue everyone claiming they invented 4G.

Zach – I bet you wrote this yourself in Deramweaver; and it was you who planted those purported that ‘LTE box’ and took it’s picture — ‘fess up!

      douche fairy cock troll.

  • Booboolala2000

So where would at&t test this? Some warehouse or something. Lol.

“Bbbbut, lte is not a proven communication standard and apple won’t do that!”

If apple wants to remain relevant they will do this and five you a larger screen and dual cores. Otherwise, they aren’t even sd good as a six month old android.

Atrix 4g, Motorola droid 3, droid x2, photon 4g, droid bionic, droid incredible 2, sgs II, htc sensation, mytouch 4g slide, htc evo 3d, and the lg optimus 3d will all have dual cores by the time the iphone 5/4S/4GS comes out.

By the time the iphone 4 came out, the htc desire, incredible, and nexus one were the only phones with 1 ghz processors.

By the time the 3gs came out, no other phones had a 600 mhz processor.

By the time the ipad came out, hp had one tablet with the same specifications as it.

By the time the ipad 2 came out, the motorola xoom had the same specs already.

Apple is now the one having to catch up with everything.

      • Anonymous

Yeah, I’m willing to bet the next generation iPhone will be a colossal commercial failure based solely on the strength of its clock speed. That’s money in the bank right there!

Your telling me that iOS devices are playing catch up? Specs aren’t everything buddy, just ask HP. LOL

      • Booboolala2000

They will now and forever play catch up. You are right, specs aren’t everything. multi tasking is, lte is, voice in design is, customization is, wireless syncing is. The list goes on…

      • Georgetown Sir

They talk about all of those nerd perks, but 90% percent of the customers walking into AT&T and Verizon stores walk out with iphones. How about catching up to iphone sales, they’re smoking every other manufacturer by a long shot.

      • Anonymous

Apple has always had to play catch up. They’re always 10-15 years behind everyone.

      • show1m

Yet all the devises you list don’t hold up to the iPhone that has been out for over an year.  It’s as simple as looking at the camera, a ton of phones had 5mp cameras but when apple released the iP4 everyone said they were behind with the camera tech….yet the pictures produced are much better than most 8mp camera’s on other phones.  This is the same with everything else, you can pack a ton of specs in a phone but its how it is used and how it feels when you use it that counts.  I am an iPhone user but i keep an open mind with other phones to compare in hopes that the other phones will be better….I am still waiting. All android phones are running almost identical software, how is this any better and how does this offer a choice?? Yah you can get a slide out key board or a physical key board, but what else?   the LTE thing is great but is it worth the battery drain?  that is your choice and if it is you can get the latest Android phone that is still waiting to update to a 6 month old software that is so fragmented that it will take Android till the next software upgrade to have it ported to your new device.

    Youtube will still buffer.

  • Anonymous

Is it supposed to be a surprise or what? Most all other phone manufacturers already have LTE phones on the market and Apple just started testing LTE prototypes. How revolutionary of them. And once they have LTE-enabled phone they will claim that they invented LTE and start suing everybody for infringing on their LTE patents.

    • Anonymous

No. No they won’t.  Old and tired joke is old, tired.  I don’t see it written anywhere that an LTE enabled iPhone would be revolutionary.  It’s merely an article stating that there is evidence of LTE testing in the works.  No more, no less. Anti-Apple fanboys are the worst.

      • Anonymous

And you needed BGR to tell you that Apple was working on LTE-enabled phone, right? As if anybody had any doubts about it.

  • Bringit

    Everybody wants one.

  • Applesucksfatties

In even more news, Apple testing a device that turns people into lemmings…er, wait.  Nevermind!!!

  • Homer

Knowing Apple they will find an excuse to re-release 3G only models for at least another generation… and being that the sheep will all line up to get the new model regardless of whether or not it has any significant changes; Apple will intentionally continue to milk old technology and laugh all the way to the bank. My guess is it won’t be until the at least the iPhone 6 or iPhone 7 when you will FINALLY see 4G on the damn thing.

  • Guest

why is this news? really?? apple is testing next gen iphones with new wireless techs wow!! all this time i thought the iphone 4 will be there last.

Zzzzzzz another Apple iphone rumor.  Yeah, when apple gets smart and starts allowing its “diamond” to be available to ALL carriers, then maybe I may give a damn.
