Microsoft outs Windows Phone 'We're in' location sharing app

mobile

Microsoft’s Bing team took the wraps off of a new location-sharing application for Windows Phone on Thursday called “We’re in.” The application is similar to foursquare and Latitude in some respects, and yet still very different. The idea is simple: you can create an invitation that will allow your friends to share their location for a specified amount of time. Say, for example, you want to share your location and see where four of your friends are, for one hour, while you all head towards a local restaurant. You can create a quick event with “We’re in” and then send it to those friends. Once they accept, their pictures and locations will appear on Bing Maps. If you hit traffic or the train is late, you and your friends can update your status as you make your way to the restaurant. Unlike Latitude, which some people avoid for fear of location privacy issues, you can always leave the party. Better yet, when the allotted time is up, your location is automatically turned off. The application is available in the Zune Marketplace now and Microsoft says it plans on delivering it to other platforms soon, too.

    Microsoft stop being US centric

The rest of the world exists you know

The US is the key battle ground. Do well here and you do well financially. Its just a fact. Don’t hate me for saying it.

I dont hate you for saying it and I agree with you, but the US isn’t the only country in the world. There are people who miss out on this app because they don’t live here

I’m sure they’ll get around to it once they work out the logistics. It ain’t that easy to map the entire world street by street.

Applications like this need to be cross-platform.I am a 26 years old nurse, young and beautiful. Now I am seeking an older gentle man who can give me real love , so i got a username Annababe2011 on—a’ge’l'es’s'da’te. Once more people start using this (basically once it launches on other mobile OSes) I’ll be pretty excited. As far as I know the only people who can use it are myself and one other friend…which sadly doesn’t lead to great utility.

Or WP7 can explode in popularity (I hope).

I used it today, pretty cool. Nice to see MS developing cool apps for their own OS rather than iOS for a change.

i dont know how to use this

It’s called Glympse, and it’s been on iOS for a while now. As always, Microsoft is too little, too late.

    • TotalLamer

Glympse is already on WP7, bro.

Too little too late for the trolling, I’m afraid.

Applications like this need to be cross-platform. My girl and I use Android, but I have switched back to my HD7 twice, and others we are with often have Blackberry or iPhone. I really like the idea but how can we really use it if we don’t All commit to buying Windows Phone?

    • Anonymous

Well facetime is not cross platform, neither is BBM. What’s to draw people to your platform if you can just get the same elsewhere?

      • http://MobileGenius.wordpress.com JM

Maybe theybcan focus on their own Windows Live Messenger and get THAT running on their phones…or Bing Nav. Or any of the other MS services that should be working flawlessly on Windows Phone.

They are going to make this platform agnostic.  We’re In apps will be hitting iOS & Android as well.

I just paíd $22.85 for an íPad 2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her her Canon EOS Rebel Camera that we got for $38.78 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $625 which only cost me $62.81 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, CentHûb.côm

is this microsofts version of google maps latitude, it looks pretty good. it would be nice if wp7 & android would be able to chat as google talk & msn messanger, google latitude & this location sharing. it would do allot of good to both the mobile os’s.
