Google 'Nexus Prime' Android 4.0 phone could launch in October

mobile

Google’s third-generation “Nexus Prime” smartphone — which will likely be the first Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” phone to hit the market — will launch in October according to a new report from Korean-language Electronic Times. BGR exclusively reported preliminary details surrounding Google’s next Nexus smartphone codenamed Nexus Prime in mid-June, and we followed up with more exclusive details later that month. This new report from Electronic Times reaffirms several specs we had reported earlier, such as the device’s 720p Super AMOLED HD display, and it narrows our fall release time frame to October. The report also claims that the Prime will be powered by a 1.5GHz processor, jibing with our earlier report stating the device would employ an OMAP4460 chipset. The site also notes that the Prime’s display will include a 4.5-inch panel with a PenTile layout.

    It’s always fun to count the number of posts it takes before the Fanboi’s on both sides of the fence bring on the hate.. It cracks me up that Baskin Robbins can sell 31 flavors of ice cream but we can’t co-exsist with two or three smartphone OS’es.

      You seem more like a Mr. Softee kind of guy.

    Knowing Google, If the new phone is called the Nexus Prime, the release date will be 10/12/2011,  10/21/2011 or 10/27/2011.  They are the only prime number dates in October that isn’t on the weekend.  My bet is is 10/12.  It falls on a Wednesday which gives the market time to react.  10/21 is a Friday which is usually a bad sign when a product is released on a Friday.  It means you lack faith in the product and are scared you’ll get hammered by the market.  10/27 is a Thursday.  It has the same connotations as a Friday release.  Just my 2 cents on the subject.

      Erm, do you not know what a prime number is?

      October is early for a Nexus. So if it happens in October this time, I am betting on the end of the month. Sure, I would like to have it sooner but I’m just making my prediction :-)

    Wouldn’t mind it being Samsung as long as they use a decent outside coat material. The Nexus S feels so flimsy. I’m sure it’s not, but I cannot stand the feel.

    the referenced korean article says that the nexus prime will be manufactured by samsung. is this news to everyone else, or am i the only one that’s hearing this for the first time?

    God Damn it!. I was just fine waiting until the Sprint Galaxy S 2 came out. Now this is coming out and I have no idea if it is worth it but I know I will kick myself if I don’t at least see what it looks like.

    A? As in one processer..? I thought it was supposed to be duel core??

    What’s the difference between a PenTile layout and a normal one? Someone please explain?

      duel core is still one processor … but 2 cores … a duel core 1ghz is different than two 1ghz i believe … i read it somewhere but you know what they say

    4.5in is just the diagonal size of the screen the phone won’t have any buttons. One of my 3.2in phone is also 4.5in diagonal size. I’m wondering how much will be the actual screen area (in pixel), minus the digital buttons at the bottom.

    Aww. So no quad core? Yes it will be PenTile. People should notice the pattern
    Super AMOLED -> PenTile
    Super AMOLED Plus -> RGB
    Super AMOLED HD -> PenTile
    Super AMOLED HD Plus -> RGB

    If you want RGB then you’ll have to wait till next year. Right now PenTile is the reason why Samsung can go 720p at all. Everything else is still unfeasible. 4.5″ sounds perfect because I love large phones that are also nice for reading.
