AT&T BlackBerry Torch 9810 landing August 21st for $49.99

mobile

Research In Motion announced via its official Twitter account on Monday that AT&T will launch the BlackBerry Torch 9810 on August 21st. We recently had hands-on time with the Torch 9810, which is nearly identical to the Torch handset that came before it, but appreciated the first-class keyboard and updated BlackBerry OS 7 operating system. The Torch 9810 is also equipped with support for AT&T’s HSPA+ network and has a 640 x 480-pixel display, 8GB of storage, a 5-megapixel camera capable of recording 720p HD video, and a 1.2GHz processor. AT&T confirmed on its Facebook page that the Torch 9810 will cost $49.99 with a new two-year contract.

Speaking of dog and shit..  you put both words together and you get what Max has for brains…… Now I just wish someone would put him in a poop bag and throw him in the trash.

The 9810 is Blackberry at its worst. The 9900 is Blackberry at its BEST.

As someone who’s been using BBs since 2001, and who thought the be-all and end-all would be a 9000 with a touchscreen, I couldn’t disagree more. Yeah, the 9900 has the 9000-style keyboard, but touch is better on the larger screen of the 9810. And the auto focus camera on the Torch is infinitely better than the craptacular EDoF camera on the 9900. How can putting a total POS camera on a “flagship” device be BB at its best? At $49 with an upgrade (assuming that is in fact the case), you’d have to be either allergic to slider phones or a moron to go with the 9900.

9810 is a good phone.. My friends that picked up on launch on the 12th really like it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Fuller/584626026 Mike Fuller

    I have both.. 9900 and 9810.

the bold is hands down my favorite phone right now vs Iphone 4 (which i’ve used for the past year) the 9700 (ick) and 9810.  Was waiting for 9860 to land on rogers, but i love how fast the 9900 browser and os is.. Super slick.. And the keyboard kicks ass… And i don’t like keyboards..

    I dunno.. I can’t put my 9900 down..

    I think i’m hooked :(

    • zacamandapio

      Then why so sad?

I was hoping we’d see a CDMA version of this for Sprint/Verizon.

$49.99 ? hmmm sounds too cheap. an&t excludsive BB for $49.99 ? really ? something sounds wrong..

    • zacamandapio

In my opinion they are trying to sell them at that price because it looks identical to the older 9800.  I think the normal person is not going to understand that it has: 1.2 GHz processor, HD Camera, newer OS, better screen and faster data connectivity (aka 4G).

  • Steve Jobs

    I like the keyboard :)

  • Applesucksfatties

I understand that because this is an exclusive device, AT&T is releasing it first.. but AT&T blew it by not releasing the 9900 at the same time (or shortly after) they release the 9810.  Those diehards that are going to buy a 9900 probably aren’t going to jump on the 9810 bandwagon and the $150 price difference ($49.00 vs $199.99) will more than likely sway those casual shoppers looking at the 9900 to go with the Torch 2.   NOTE TO AT&T.. fix your f*ck up and don’t release the Bold 9900 in November..  move your release date up to Sept/early October otherwise you’ll have the dissatisfied die hards jumping ship to VZW or Sprint…. or buying an unlocked 9900 from Rogers.

    Great specs.  Great Price.

Thats a damn good price point.

I wish they get the BB Bold 9900
look like I will have to buy it over sea

  • Apollo505

The 9810 may not be the best phone, but it’s certainly in the running for the best $50 phone. That’s a lot of phone for $50 (nice screen, 1.2 Ghz, HSPA+, BB keyboard, etc).

Please release the 9900 instead,  Att needs to learn to give people more Blackberry choices

  • Rican230

I’ve never owned a black berry so I don’t understand as to why people are bashing the 9810.  Is it a bad phone and is it not worth getting.  Does any one know the full price of this phone?

  • Anonymous

Ignoring any insults – does anyone know why they didn’t release a 9900 bold at the same time?  and does anyone have any insight into when AT&T will release that?

Personally I didn’t like the physical feel of the torch slide-out, I’d prefer the bold.
