Apple iPhone shipments could approach 100 million this year

Apple has placed orders with its manufacturing partners for as many as 26 million iPhone 5 handsets in the second half of 2011 as it prepares for a massive launch this fall. In addition to Apple’s iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 models, this could bring the vendor’s second-half iPhone shipments up to 56 million units, DigiTimes reported on Monday. Tack that massive figure onto the 18.65 million iPhones Apple shipped in the fiscal second quarter and the 20.34 million units shipped in the fiscal third quarter, and Apple could potentially ship just under 100 million iPhone handsets this year. Apple is expected to unveil at least one new iPhone model in the coming weeks, which will then go on sale in late September or early October.

        dear winBSODow: first, smart cover ‘alike’ wasnt created or accepted by samsung, get over it (read some news outside of BGR’s ass).

        second, apple did not invent icons or phone boxes – on same basis you could argue apple is stealing box designs from some random company such as ’4tech’ that had very similar boxes before even ithings came out.

        tldr; apple did not invent any of it and is patenting obviousness.

      I don’t really care who sells what in which quantity. I just know that my nexus s overclocked to 1.5 with a SMARTASS governor is faster than your iphone and gets better battery life. There is not a single thing that’s better about the iPhone, including form factor, and nexus is easier to use

        Fake? Please, enlighten me. The glass is curved, if you can’t tell well that sounds like a personal problem. And frankly its easier to see in the sun than my iPhone because of it, yes, I have one of those for work. I tried to like it but its just so sloooowwwww not to mention boring.

        It’s not a curved screen just the top is curved to make it look like it is. And i know you don’y have an iPhone because Burger King doesn’t give their employes phones. You can try and talk up the shit screen on that nexus Shit phone all you want but it’s just a run of the mill junk screen from two years ago. What’s the resolution on that again?

    Damn analysts. If these guys are getting paid to just guess up bullshit, then I think I can do one better. I’m going to start a website that shows 3-d renders or design concept sketches of phones and tablets that I *think* are going to be coming out in the coming months. Of course out of 100, I might be right once or twice. But at least it would play on our hopeful-techgeeky nature of coming devices AND actually contribute some value to this world by providing some visual concepts of prototypes. Y’know , instead of just predicting complete guesses or completely obvious information and then calling yourself an “analyst.”

      How many different Android phones from how many different Manufactures?!?!?!  Quite a few.  So comparing all that, to 1 single company selling 2 phones, 1 over a year old the other over 2 years old.   Making a large pile of money, while many of these Android Manufactures are scraping by with Small profit Margins on all these free and BOGO programs.   Really, it doesn’t matter if your #1 or not, never has with Apple before, all that matters is making money to keep your business running, and Apple is making far more then anyone else.    I could care less if it was 500 million Android phones, So what!!!  What does that mean exactly?!?!!?   It sure isn’t going to make me want one.
